The dog days of summer are approaching Ambridge. Freddy’s being hounded and Brian is in the dog house - can Jenny take the ruff with the smooth?

Thanks to all for the dog ideas, and special mention to Ppeatfruit.

Occurs to me to wonder if the SWs are cross-referencing with ‘Shetland’, (TV version). Similar-ish circumstances: mother deceased, university-age daughter’s home is with stepfather who brought her up. Both on good terms (usually) with bio-father.

But I guess that won’t happen for Will.

Well of course William will expect Clarrie to look after his childen and be general dogsbody, he is his father's son....

Report

I did wonder about Clarrie, as the episode referenced her busy-ness.

Gillian Reynolds’s radio review

(Hoping this is visible to all. She’s just not feeling it any more. For all the reasons.)

The Elms needs to look at their client confidentiality policy again and do some staff/volunteer training.

I’m sure this has been asked and answered and I missed it, but if Olwen’s living in her car, and she’s the registered keeper, what address does DVLA have for her? There must be insurance implications etc.

(Tbh I don’t care about Pat, her do-goodery and the Olwen plot-device but the pedant in me feels compelled to wonder Hmm)

Report
birdsdestiny · 13/05/2018 10:47

I thought that when Pat 'found' where Olwyn had parked her car. Thats stalking surely and not an activity that is encouraged in any voluntary organisation I know.

Report
Halsall · 13/05/2018 11:04

And yes, I agree that Pat is stalking and that must be contrary to the policies at The Elms, surely. Assuming it’s a kind of drop-in centre offering non-judgmental, ‘no strings’ assistance, she has no right to be following people around and potentially causing them to feel they can’t access the service because of her intrusive interest.

Surely J&M go to a school more local to Nic as it would have been their primary residence?

Report
Bekabeech · 13/05/2018 15:14

Ambridge is in a rural area - the local school is Borchester Green. I assume Andrew lives in Borchester.

Someone needs to tell Mia to threaten Will with going to live at her dads , then maybe she'll get some attention. Otherwise she's going to spend every weekend helping Clarrie look after Kira and Poppy.

I don't think this very important point has been raised (and that is not sarcasm) I was wondering this as well.

Unless she made a SORN declaration it needs to be insured and road taxed and MOT'd.

Im not sure but I suppose she could have registered the car to the address of a relative or, possibly, of the Elms. Homeless people have to use addresses of hostels to claim benefits and apply for jobs.

Probably not the biggest issue at the moment but ...

Is it me or do Ambridge CC have an unfeasibly high proportion of home matches?

Haven't read the last few Archers threads, so sorry if this has been said already, but: my guess is that Olwyn will turn out to be super-rich and just choosing to live in her car as she can't cope with ordinary life. Or possibly trying to avoid someone she has been cruel to.

Ah, here you are. I'm with Gillian Reynolds - not really feeling it at the moment either. I wonder if things will pick up when the new Editor gets started.

Thanks for the new thread, Pseudo!

Has Will forgotten about his REAL son George? Interesting comments at the cricket match about Jake being a 'chip off the old block" from Brian or was it Justin? who wouldn't be likely to know the difference between them?

Report
Gruach · 14/05/2018 10:26

It’s a good point ppeat. All Will needs now is George feeling pushed out ...

Think Justin made the chip off the old block comment. It was lovely! And very much in Will’s favour if they all insist on litigation.

On what planet? Who would like to be compared to grumpy, narcissistic Will?

Why has Jake only taken up cricket now, at the grand old age of 15? If he was that keen then he would have been in the junior team about eight years ago. Yet another unrealistic scenario from the SW.

Are we supposed to be drawing parallels, btw? - about another unpleasant man asserting his ownership bonding with his step-son by teaching him cricket?

She hates capitalism and profit so I can't imagine her sitting on a secret hoard biscuit

I think it's just horrifyingly easy to become homeless these days.
