On a train. Just passed a "Myson House". Wondered what he's doing now...

Interesting to hear thoughts on Open farm Sunday. We opened our gates for a very low key day. Some toy tractors etc for kids, some calves and a cow to look at (well handled before so hopefully they weren't stressed by the experience) and a short walk to see cows grazing in the field. We gave away milkshake (provided by our milk buyer) plus tea and coffee, biscuits etc. We didn't make any money from it, it has cost us money in terms of refreshments, staff time etc. No tour, though we may run one next year, but all of us happy to answer questions and talk about the farm. We allowed visitors to see the first ten minutes of milking and some calves being fed.

It's quite hard to allow people to get hands on on a modern farm, for lots of reasons, and of course milking only happens twice a day, so we can't demonstrate that all day! Those wanting hands on experience probably need to look for specific courses/venues, as most modern working farms aren't set up for it. That hopefully doesn't stop it being an interesting day out for people.

My beef farmer / petting zoo gets his calves from the dairy farm up the hill. I went to their OFS a few years ago (they weren't participating this year, not many farms near us were). The dairy farm put on quite a good show courtesy of promotional stuff from Arla. We didn't get to see a great deal beyond the sheds but I did get to stand in a spot that you don't normally get access to, and got the most fantastic view across the county.Smile

I tend to sympathise with Lizzie. Yes, agonising about whether Freddie was safe was well over the top, but I think if my 17 year old had bunked off his exams, lied to the person he was going with, and stolen my money for the purpose I'd be bloody furious.

He left an IOU ! That's not stealing. Exams are ok if you need\want to go to uni and get a top job otherwise his future is probably running L.L. Though he may well rebel against that too.

MoominFlaps · 13/06/2017 14:27

My brother is 16 and my mum would have gone off the scale ballistic if he did what Freddie did.

MoominFlaps · 13/06/2017 14:28

Also Lily is one of the most badly written characters on TA. She sounds about forty years old. Which teenagers are these SW listening to?!?!

ppeatfruit · 13/06/2017 14:36

Everyone's different Moomin Lily will rebel when she's 28 probably Grin.

Thesingingtoad · 13/06/2017 16:51

Lily reminds me of Flora Poste in "Cold Comfort Farm" for some reason, a rather boring know-it-all character.

It's a good point - Lily is supposed to be clever, Phoebe ought to be her idol. Although, given how clever she was with the bridal flowers issue it rather sounds as if she will be the one taking over LL.

Who on earth is Kirsty's friend Patrick, please?!

Travelledtheworld · 13/06/2017 19:15

Lawrence Patrick is a longtime friend of Kirsty. He would almost certainly like to be more than a friend, and would almost certainly be better for her than Chipolata Boy.

He doesn't get to speak very often but we should hear more from him imo

theredjellybean · 14/06/2017 14:16

james and leone..who the hell are they ? i am a sort of lurker here ont his thread and also a relative newcomer to the archers ( 4 yrs)

Gruach · 14/06/2017 14:32

redjellybean - Suggest you skip over to the new thread linked by Pseudo just above!

James is Lilian's son. Leonie is Robert's daughter, Lynda's stepdaughter. They are a couple and have a toddler son - Mungo - who is the entire future of Ambridge.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/06/2017 17:54

James and Leonie are hilarious.Weren't they publishing a book of Ambridge photos at one point?
