I'm surprised Toby hasn't thought of crowdfunding to finance his artisan gin venture ...

Halsall · 30/04/2017 10:16

Just going back to Pip yet again. Every time she dissolves into self-pitying tears or pouts that Ruth hates her now, I have to remind myself that this is someone who is a professional farmer. Who went to college to study farming. Who is supposedly highly trained.

Yes, everyone makes mistakes, but dealing with them promptly would be the professional thing to do. The fact that she covered up her mistake at the time (also begging Ed not to mention it to her parents) and then - even more bizarrely - claimed to have forgotten about the cows getting out, only, what? 2 or 3 weeks later, then proceeded to clam up about it while her parents drove themselves frantic really doesn't augur very well for her as the Future of Brookfield.

Her indulgent snivelling is really the giddy limit.

Ceto · 30/04/2017 10:30

Pip needs to bear in mind that, if she were employed by anyone else, she would now almost certainly be out of a job. She keeps demanding to be forgiven, but she doesn't seem to have thought about offering anything in return. Moving out of Rickyard Cottage so that they can let it for holiday income would be a start.

Vango · 30/04/2017 10:58

the giddy limit

I love this! So evocative 😁😁

I'm stealing it.

FrancisCrawford You are going to have to deal with it because you got us into this mess

How did Ruth get them into this mess or did you mean Pip?

Imbroglio · 30/04/2017 11:01

Massive red flags around Justin's reaction to the news about the lawyer.

Ceto · 30/04/2017 11:10

Yes, Justin's reaction was really bizarre. Why on earth did he assume Miranda would play nice and decide she shouldn't get the best lawyer available because he, Justin, would want him? In fact it's very odd that he didn't talk to a lawyer the moment he decided to leave her.

EBearhug · 30/04/2017 11:34

In fact it's very odd that he didn't talk to a lawyer the moment he decided to leave her.

Yes, you'd have thought with all his business dealings, he'd have a legal team on speed dial, who would be able to put him touch with the top divorce lawyer as soon as he asked. He will still be getting divorced, whether or not Lilian wanted to marry him - he should have had a lawyer lined up even before he first asked Lilian and she rejected him. Damara will probably be better off in Miranda's care, if this is how he works.

ppeatfruit · 30/04/2017 12:48

I do love the faith a number of you have in college or uni education. I have known a good many people who are highly qualified (with paper qualifications) and couldn't find their arses in the dark have very little common sense Grin.

Ref. The Fairbrothers Francis There a quite a few people who become small holding farmers "because they fancy being in the country". There was a programme about them on the telly a while ago.

Yes, it's true about Justin's business acumen but we've noticed it before; the "reliable honourable" ( Lil is now wearing very rose tinted glasses) man who employed a known abuser to do his dirty work for him. He's not THAT far from Matt actually.

To be fair he is elderly and my have short term memory loss. Grin

I've just listened to the omnibus (and apologies if this ground has already been covered but can't scroll very easily on this tiny tablet thing) and was very surprised that Shula took the pony in quite so readily. If I ran a hunting livery, there would be no way that a stray pony with an unknown background would be allowed in close proximity to the regular boarders without being quarantined first (unless she has other stables around the back but even then there are biosecurity risks), particularly in light of recent IBR events in the family. Very poor practice!

Also fwiw : find Pip's acting pretty atrocious - she can't do "convincingly distressed" at all - still prefer her to previous Pip though!

Slurrycart · 30/04/2017 13:07

meant to say "unknown background and a high temperature"

redshoeblueshoe · 30/04/2017 13:20

I have never understood the point of the FB's. Why would 2 brothers who don't even like each other both move to the same place ? We also know that until recently that their DF was supporting them financially, so why were they always broke ?

R4 · 30/04/2017 13:22

I think that David made the wrong call to keep quiet about Pip's error. I think that the rest of the family might have been more forgiving if they thought it was due to a youngster's foolishness (they have had their own experiences of that) rather than former-NFU-chairman's sloppiness.

Imbroglio · 30/04/2017 13:43

Couldn't agree more.

AuldHeathen · 30/04/2017 14:02

Although I find Ruth as annoying as others do, I can also see she must be feeling annoyed, frustrated, vulnerable at David talking out of turn over the liability. They run a business together but she was not consulted over what he said to the other farms, was she? This happened before over the non-move north.

Vango · 30/04/2017 14:11

But to be fair Auld Ruth wasn't exactly in a rush to talk to Brian or Bridge Farm, was she? She reacted in the same way as Pip - do nothing and hope it will all go away.

I'd be a bit hacked off if I was David right now. At least he's finally taking some action. If Ruth doesn't like it then why doesn't she just bloody well handle it herself!

BertrandRussell · 30/04/2017 14:20

Pip is 24 and a professional farmer with a degree in agriculture. She's not a scatty teenager.......

Her behaviour is far too dependent on who her boyfriend is. If she'd been with Matthew or the dull local Young Farmer, (or Rex, come to that) she'd have owned up....well, she probably would have fixed the fence in the first place.

partystress · 30/04/2017 16:03

Long time lurker, first time posting in shameless bid to be 75,000th! Has Kenton paid back the loan from David and Rooth after the pub flooded? Just imagining the row if D goes to K to say they need it back to meet compensation bills only to find it's in Toby's still. And then when K finds he is not the only investor, but that Pip has a stake already and so it gets back to D...

ErrolTheDragon · 30/04/2017 17:17

Yes... if Kenton hasn't repaid David yet, that's liable to cause ructions given the current situation at Brookfield.

Why haven't they ever done anything with Hollowtree - they appear to have totally forgotten about it untill the Fairbrothers arrived buildings standing idle?

LillianGish · 30/04/2017 18:29

Just caught up with Friday - I loved the way the script neatly dealt with all questions about Ruth's inheritance (there's none left or available one way and another). It was clear (but in the usual vague way) that the compensation bill - and we still don't have a figure shall we have a sweepstake? - is going to be a big problem for Brookfield. The episode also made it clear that Patbot is well and truly dead (long live real Pat) and nicely laid the ground for a big inheritance fall out at Home Farm. Enjoying it all so much more these days.Bravo Huge Canoe.
