Sorry, I posted before I was ready. Horses are taught from a young age to be obedient to people e.g. Through a headcollar or a bridle so size doesn't really matter there. Although if you are riding a very strong horse with a hard mouth it might help

ppeatfruit · 16/02/2017 08:35

Fink I hadn't even considered the reasons that you suggest
ed made Anisha a certainty for cricket playing, only the fact that she likes keeping fit; she jogs.

redshoeblueshoe · 16/02/2017 09:21

Anti-bioPips I'll have an extra large bottle, especially if it means I can't hear Pip.
Also loved Flora & Clover. I can't wait for someone on Baby Names to ask for a sisters name for Flora

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2017 09:34

And their brother Bert Olli?Grin

Megatherium · 16/02/2017 09:49

Cabin Pressure fans will be very familiar with the Scottish cricket team, their proclivity for playing in aircraft cabins, and their van-lifting talents.

SingingAvocado · 16/02/2017 09:53

My younger daughter is a Flora, RedShoe!

Mega I love that episode, though tbh would find it hard to name an episode I don't love. Have them all on Audible & play the 'only words of one syllable' game in the supermarket with my daughter. Nutella was fun.

Aiming for the Travelling Lemon next.

ppeatfruit · 16/02/2017 12:53

Aren't animals on farms put in 'clamps' to keep them still? I suppose getting them into one would need a strong upper body.

enochroot · 16/02/2017 13:08

Wouldn't a vet med student have handled large animals successfully before graduating? It must be within her competence, surely.

EBearhug · 16/02/2017 13:34

Of course it's within her competence. But there are plenty of old-fashioned farming types who don't expect women to be capable of it. Prejudice vs reality.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2017 13:48

She was surprised that the animal wasn't already in the clamp, wasn't she?

dairyfarmerswife · 16/02/2017 14:13

Gashed bull would probably be given antibiotics and anti inflammatory because it's hard to keep a wound like that clean on a farm. But yes vets are definitely being encouraged to reduce ab use, particularly the 4th generation drugs.

A lot of farmers would initially be suspicious of a female vet, and dare I say it, an Asian vet too. Our vets employ three women and certainly two of them are excellent. It's as much about skill as size - a big man doesn't stand much more chance than a small woman of moving an animal twenty times his weight if it doesnt want to go.

I'm surprised no one is interested in Pip's broken acr that's going to cost £600 to fix??

Lancelottie · 16/02/2017 14:17

And Ottilie-Bottilie.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2017 14:19

I suspect most of us have very little clue what an acr is or how much it should cost. But this being TA thread, of course we would all appreciate some education from someone who does know.Grin

ppeatfruit · 16/02/2017 15:28

Are any of the feminists on here noticing a definitely positive attitude towards women since the new editor has taken over? It's as if he or one his minions has been reading this thread Grin

GypsyFl0ss · 16/02/2017 15:51

Ah Mega that was my first thought too. I'm very late to the Cabin Pressure party and have been bingeing on them all recently. Fabulous stuff.

TeenAndTween · 16/02/2017 16:04

If I was calling in a vet costing ££ per hour, I think I'd have rounded up and contained any animal I wanted them to examine, just so as I didn't have to pay extra for the vet's time.

Fackorf · 16/02/2017 16:12

Hello everyone

In a fit of googling, I learned that Pip turns 24 tomorrow. Just saying, in case anyone wants to avoid the episode...

Gin
EBearhug · 16/02/2017 16:17

Also, if you've got a sick animal, you usually want to isolate it from the herd because of infection risk - easier to keep a wound clean in a freshly strawed pen on its own. And definitely easier than across a field. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if the bull was in a pen rather than in a crush.

Meanwhile - of course someone from the editing team should be watching us. We know everything they're doing wrong. ;-)

dairyfarmerswife · 16/02/2017 17:27

Yep, at £100/hr they are expensive farm workers if you aren't set up.

I was joking about the acr but I did think it was quite a specific technical item for the sw to pluck out of thin air to go wrong. It stands for automatic cluster removal and is the gizmo that takes the cluster off the cow automatically when she's no longer giving milk. DH thought £600 was a bit steep and said it must be the circuit board that needed replacing [overinfested]

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2017 17:31

Oh right - she did say something which indicated what sort of equipment of it was, come to think. Its good when they use proper terminology.

I appreciate the warning, Fackorf. I never miss an episode but some are better listened to after the sun is over the yardarm, and this may well be one of them.

I enjoyed tonight's episode. Freddie - this is going to go so wrong.
