I think Roy was a dick too, but Helen chose neither the right venue or time to press Kirsty about the pregnancy

She didn't press her. She said "I know you're pregnant".

Is last night's scenario really so preposterous? If Kirsty had just said (as I believe Kirsty would have) "I can't believe he told you, but you'd have noticed soon enough anyway" would we all be carrying on about Helen's arrogance, lack of empathy, selfishness?

I can't see how jilting someone after having previously cheated can be seen as a youthful mistake

She totally missed the social cues - it was very clear that Kirsty wasn't going to raise it so by raising it herself she overrode that

I'm guessing Kirsty is getting freaked out after toms crazy reaction and pats weird display (which Kirsty may now assume came from knowing about the pregnancy)

I think Helen was acting entirely in character. She gave Kirsty loads of opportunity to tell her about the pregnancy and then, when no news was forthcoming, couldn't think of any reason that Kirsty wouldn't want to tell her. So she broke the news herself.

I actually think that Tom could be rightly pissed off with her. Although Kirsty doesn't want the world knowing I can understand Tom needing to talk to someone (especially as K wouldn't let Roy talk to him about it). But if I've been told something in confidence and share it with someone else, I would expect them to not go blathering about it at the first opportunity. Helen was motivated by "I'm hurt Kirsty didn't want me to know" and should have kept her mouth shut, even if she does think she'd be very helpful.

Pp was right who said that this friendship is one-way traffic. Kirsty doesn't really seem to rely on Helen (or anyone?) for emotional support. Will be interesting to see if that changes when she has the baby. And whether Helen can find it within her to be supportive to Kirsty finding her way in motherhood - without taking over or being a know-it-all
