Happy New Year to you all.

OP posts:

Badly written. There's no way Tom would have actually asked her, at this stage anyway. They've not even been on speaking terms for that long.

If Roy and Kirsty get together then I can only imagine it's for the benefit of new listeners who don't know him. It's absolutely ridiculous and completely unbelievable.

TheMortificadosDragon · 07/01/2017 10:17

Lass - ita, but then again Roy and Lizzie was pretty unlikely too. Lets just hope the SWs refuse to go there.

That tom scene was so daft, I know he and Helen are egocentric but surely he should have realised that even if he genuinely thought his idea was a goer he should have gone about it much more slowly and tentatively, not just 'right, this is what I think should happen'. Redeemed by Kirsty's response, good acting from her.

EBearhug · 07/01/2017 10:20

Oh, I thought it was entirely in character, thinking about the situation only from his position, not hers. It also showed he never really understood just what his decision to leave her at the altar did to her, and he thinks it's all now in the past, rather than an undercurrent through whatever form their interactions take.

R4 · 07/01/2017 10:29

Perhaps he's confusing RL with Colin/Colinette.
He's a plonker. Who in their right mind would like a 'right, this is what I think should happen' plan? I dislike Pat and her brood, they are all selfish, self-righteous and egotistical.

TheAntiBoop · 07/01/2017 11:01

Tbf on the Roy Kirsty possibility

Yes he is Roy of the Rotas but he is also dependable and a good dad which can be very attractive traits on a man if you are in the settling down zone. (When I say dependable I'm ignoring the ridiculous Lizzie affair which I'm starting to think was done to get rid of Hayley in a long term plan to create a love triangle with k t and r)

MrsBernardBlack · 07/01/2017 11:36

Haven't been keeping up with these threads, so apologies if this has already been mentioned.

I was really sad to read about Sara Coward's illness, and so moved at how she really wants the character of Caroline to continue. It will be difficult to replace her unmistakable voice though.

Link here.

redshoeblueshoe · 07/01/2017 11:48

I thought Tom was actually totally old Tom last night. That's exactly what I would have expected from him Grin only caring about himself. I think he will let Pat know about the pregnancy and then she too will be an arse. Poor Kirsty should have thought a bit harder about having this baby.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 07/01/2017 14:50

Dear lord Toms an idiot. Surely no one can be that dense to keep ploughing ahead with their agenda when the other party is clearly horrified.

viques · 07/01/2017 15:00

Redshoeblueshoe, I can't wait for Pat to find out too. I can almost hear her wail about why cant her children give her grandchildren 'properly' like other people. Why must she have secret grandchildren , test tube grandchildren, grandchildren born of rape and now one born of a quickie to someone who could have been a daughter in law but is now not interested in an archery alliance.

Poor Kirsty, I think she needs to move, preferably miles and miles away from Ambridge, where no-one ever goes. She should be safe if she takes an assumed name and goes to live a bit beyond Felpersham........

viques · 07/01/2017 15:03

Ps Thanks to Mrs BernardBlack for the link about Sarah Coward. How sad, but she sounds very positive about the time at she has left.

Vango · 07/01/2017 15:12

I can't wait for Pat to find out too. I can almost hear her wail about why cant her children give her grandchildren 'properly'..

I don't believe that would ever be Pat's reaction. She'll be delighted after the horror that's been 2016.

TheMortificadosDragon · 07/01/2017 15:44

Kirsty probably should move, but I hope she doesn't. She's one of the best people in Ambridge. If not the best.

Gruach · 07/01/2017 15:59

I'm totally fascinated by all the earnest speculation over Tom and Kirsty's motivation. But I cannot rid myself of the conviction that on no planet in this or any other universe would Kirsty Miller deliberately and voluntarly find herself renting a room and taking a job in the village - not town - village of the man who jilted her at the altar.

That said, it does raise so many possibilities. And yes, SOC definitely appeared to intend that she and Tom would end up as the next generation of Bridge Farm Archers. He said their relationship needed to be "tested" first ... I wonder if the (possibly about to be caused by Rob) loss of this first child might be the ultimate test and bringing together.

I don't watch much TV or many films - but isn't it an accepted thing in fiction that if you set out to matchmake for your friend you end up falling in love with them yourself? The thought of Kirsty and Roy is as dry as dust to me - really hope it does not happen, despite the obvious signs.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/01/2017 16:24

If it does happen it would be the second time Roy took the discarded gf of a Bridge Farm Archer. Hayley was John's gf.

LowDudgeon · 07/01/2017 18:28

I've just come across An Evening with Sunny Ormonde which sounds like a brilliant night out!

This one is in Market Harborough on 28th January; I can't find any other dates currently but she has done it elsewhere. No good for me as I'm in Lancs but I'll look out for it now I know about it Smile

"Just how big are Tom's sausages?" heh heh

Sunny has been playing the “outrageous and raunchy Lilian Bellamy” in BBC Radio 4’s The Archers for the past 12 years and has become one of the listeners’ most favourite characters! Her antics have kept the nation entertained, whether it be riding round Ambridge on a Harley Davidson, drinking the bull and the cider shed dry with Eddie Grundy or absconding to Costa Rica with her beloved and very wicked Tiger! And then of course there is Tiger’s brother Paul… Sunny will fill you in on all the behind the scenes stories about the world’s longest running soap opera- an evening of anecdotes, banter, and favourite pieces from Sunny’s long and distinguished acting career – humorous and touching in turn.
Includes a question and answer session with the audience about the making of The Archers – now in its 61st year! Where did that laugh come from? Did Victoria Wood really pull a pint in The Bull? Just how big are Tom’s sausages?
PLUS! a signed Archers script for the most original Archers question..
“Sunny dances in and out of Lilian’s character with ease, but also with drama… Shirley Valentine… Under Milk Wood… stories and anecdotes galore… an evening to remember!”
You don’t have to be an Archers listener to enjoy this highly entertaining evening

PuppetInParadize · 07/01/2017 23:40

GaspOde, I've been thinking that too, about the Archers boys' cast offs for Roy. I'm still holding out for a positive single parent but co-parenting story though, and don't see Kirsty and Roy being attracted to each other either. But then i recall finding Hayley and Roy a surprise back then too. Tom was so like the old sausage king in Friday's episode. It's like he's learned nothing!

That's a lovely present to get, FrancisC. I have no recollection of Leonie's voice. It's been ages since we heard her or her sister.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/01/2017 03:08

I'd forgotten all about Leonie Snell. Mind you Lynda and Lillian seem to have forgotten about Leonie and James too.

Gruach · 08/01/2017 07:02

True. But was it last year or the year before that Mungo had a party in Ambridge?

I did like the way Coriander and family were used, briefly, recently.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 08/01/2017 09:28

I thought the Kirsty/Tom scene was chilling because Tom was coming across as rather Robbish - telling the mother of his child what was good for her and expecting her to fall in with the plan he had already determined for her.

TheAntiBoop · 08/01/2017 09:41

Well I thought it was nice to see a bit of old Tom as people don't change that fundamentally. And I like the idea of all socs work being undone!!

I agree that Kirsty coming back was weird but was probably done to aid the helrob sl along.

Tom may not have been abusive of her when they were together but he certainly didn't really know her - she did all the running around him and he very much took her for granted.

Gruach · 08/01/2017 10:09

So ... Sharon wasn't a Horrobin? Why did I think she was? (And that therefore Tracy would already know Johnny.)

TheMortificadosDragon · 08/01/2017 10:11

No, Rob would have been much more subtle and measured in his approach, whereas Tom just changed in like a bull at a gate but was the one who emerged crushed.

EsmesBees · 08/01/2017 10:24

Remember that period when James and Leonie were hanging round all the village events making notes for their book? That was a bad time.
