Roll up roll up! It's nearly Apple Day in Ambridge. Grab a slice of Borset apple cake and see who's got the longest peel in The Archers.

I am quite happy for them not to have mentioned the US election.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2016 23:10

Francis - if you google you can probably find him reading the shipping forecast...

PuppetInParadize · 09/11/2016 23:35

Is that the Neil with the Caribbean accent? I agree it's a lovely warm voice. I'm pissed off with my husband tonight - maybe I could get a trade-in? SmileI was out tonight and didn't hear the 7 PM episode. I can't even be bothered to listen, that's how fed up i am with TA just now. And found I wasn't bothered if there were spoilers on this thread (there aren't). Pure scunnered I am. Grin

TheAntiBoop · 09/11/2016 23:47

Wow - he is a lot younger than I was expecting him to be!

He does have a lovely voice.

PuppetInParadize · 10/11/2016 00:07

Well, I've had enough of old codgers, I'd like a younger model next time please. Smile

ArgyMargy · 10/11/2016 06:37

Yes I love that voice too. Someone once described him as "the CA who sounds like a bear" which I thought was spot on.

SerendipityPhenomenon · 10/11/2016 07:09

I'm amazed on reading further to discover that Neil Nunes' appointment initially caused a fuss because people said they couldn't understand his accent. I've never had difficulty with it, and I can't see how anyone could. I suspect the reality is they didn't like the fact that it was the voice of a non-white person.

5to2 · 10/11/2016 07:42

Racism and snobbery, pure and simple. Some people think a Caribbean twang is inferior.

I love Adam's languid tones also.

Yes Francis , at least the old Pip and Tom had very distinctive voices. I really find it difficult to differentiate between some, actually most, of the younger characters these days

ErrolTheDragon · 10/11/2016 10:15

I wonder if the confusion between younger voices is age-related, in the same way that quite a lot of southerners seem to not be able to distinguish the northern characters but northerners can? Grin

SingingAvocado · 10/11/2016 10:26

Ah, Neil Nunes. Thanks Francis I've wondered who he was too – love his voice. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/3cJGDNb51qH08rlkkC75qg8/neil-nunes

TheAntiBoop · 10/11/2016 11:33

Well he's a year younger than me and I had him pegged as in his fifties!!

Maybe that's because I still don't feel like a proper adult though!

mummytime · 10/11/2016 11:34

I love his voice (NN) late at night it's so soothing!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/11/2016 11:38

That deep timbre does make him sound older than he is - I can't believe he was only 26 when he first started working for the beeb!

SingingAvocado · 10/11/2016 11:42

AntiBoop he is two years younger than me! Yikes!

MrsArthurShappey · 10/11/2016 12:34

Ooh yes I love his rich velvety tones. Thanks for the name, I gave him a right good google and see that unbelievably he came top in a 'most irritating voice on radio' poll. Chris 'excitable puppy' Evans and Steve 'shouty mcshouty' Wright aren't even mentioned the Telegraph article I reluctantly clicked on!

DoctorTwo · 10/11/2016 16:17

Another who finds Neils voice soothing, and another who likes Adams languid delivery.

glowfrog · 10/11/2016 16:39

CA last night said something about Rob having to change plans - fingers crossed it means Lillian tells him to get stuffed.

NN probably annoyed male Telegraph readers because they didn't like their wives drooling while they made dinner.Grin

elephantoverthehill · 10/11/2016 18:06

There was a gag on the Now Show or Dead Ringers a couple of years back where an impersonator of NN said something along the lines of The next programme is X but you don't really want to know that, you only switched on R4 to hear my voice'.

glowfrog · 10/11/2016 19:05

Well done, Lillian!! Only wish you'd told him why.

Got to -loath- love Rob. "Oh I didn't really want it anyway." That is so pathetic...

Shallishanti · 10/11/2016 19:07

yeah, and what's the betting he doesn't really have 'a much better property on the Edgely Rd'
