Deeply unimpressed that the BBC has appointed an Editor with no radio experience at all. SOC had some but had clearly not remembered much of the practical stuff from his earlier stint on TA. I live in hope that the new chap will give thought to fundamental matters like ensuring the listeners can tell one actor from another. Hmm

Fiderer · 13/09/2016 17:18

Another episode I listened to from the "review" on here.

Sorry to say the post about sharing the teeth struck me and I was laughing. Most inappropriate.

Fed up of bloody Rob though. Also noticed Helen references Kaz/Caz (?) a lot.

TopazRocks · 13/09/2016 17:25

Yes, he DOES have lots of good male relatives. Alas, he does seem to like the idea of 'daddy' and saying that word.

Can anyone tell me what is Caz in prison for?

Mitzimaybe · 13/09/2016 17:35

Long time lurker, regular listener.

He probably doesn't think he raped Helen and Jess, but he must be aware of the deliberate mindgames he's been playing.

Not necessarily. I used to work with someone a bit like this; very manipulative and bent the truth to prove themselves right all the time. To people outside the immediate situation, they were completely plausible and convincing and made it appear that the problems were caused by others. I thought it must be deliberate and calculated behaviour but I subsequently learned that this person genuinely believed their own version of events and saw themselves totally as the victim.

I can't imagine Anna would be involved in the family hearing

She was involved in the previous hearing, so I imagine she still would be. Because in Archers world, if you're a lawyer you're a specialist in every area of the law - witness Usha. In RL I suspect the number of QCs who specialist in both criminal and family law is tiny.

As for legal aid - I guess that if Helen qualifies financially then she may still qualify for it in the family case, because legal aid is only available for family cases if domestic violence is involved and she can claim that. However, I have no idea of the technicalities involved.

JudyCoolibar · 13/09/2016 17:43

I'm not at all clear that even if a social worker got involved they would necessarily take Henry off Rob. All that they have against him in relation to Henry (and even that is in part only on Helen's word) is:
(a) She felt she had to stab Rob to protect Henry. However, the acquittal isn't any evidence that the jury thought Rob was a danger to Henry, merely that there is a reasonable doubt that Helen could have thought so.
(b) He threw away the rabbit. A bit extreme, but not a child protection issue.
(c) He was planning on boarding school. Not a child protection issue, or boarding schools that take 6 year olds wouldn't be allowed to exist.
(d) Maybe that he sometimes seems over-strict. Again, that comes nowhere near to making him dangerous.

Over and above that there's all the evidence of the rapes and coercive control, but again there has been no legal finding that any of that happened. There's the admitted slap, but again that's not enough to suggest any danger to Henry.

So I think we're not hearing anything about a social worker because there's nothing a social worker would or could realistically do to change the status quo.

JessieMcJessie · 13/09/2016 17:44

A pp said it must be hard for Ursula as Jack is her only grandchild. However I think we have heard mention before of Miles having a wife (Belinda) and children.

JudyCoolibar · 13/09/2016 17:47

I'm worried Pat's door-shutting is going to bite her on the arse though. They have Rob's 'flesh and blood' and he has theirs, 6 days a week... it's easy to imagine the kinds of games that might be played there.

I would hope it doesn't count against her. She can quite reasonably say that this is the man who, she has just discovered, raped her child repeatedly, and she really couldn't cope with any more interaction with him than the bare minimum.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/09/2016 17:53

Miles has a wife, yes, but I don't recall hearing about children. I do hope we hear from Miles at some point. I wonder if the new Editor will want to delver more into Rob's back story? I want to know about the scar on his arm.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2016 18:05

Someone's started a thread on toad in the hole recipes, I'm so tempted....

enochroot · 13/09/2016 18:12

I think we were once told that Miles doesn't have children and this was part of Rob's desperation to have a son and be one up on Miles.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2016 18:15

I always imagine Miles's wife on the mn Stately Homes thread, morning about her in laws!

Jellykat · 13/09/2016 18:18

De-lurking here.. I don't understand why Anna hasn't suggested Helen should get an injunction against Rob, given his history.. Her future safety seems to have been ignored. Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2016 18:19

If tonights episode is commentworthy, are we likely to need a new thread title soon?

PseudoBadger · 13/09/2016 18:22

Yes please!

Minimammoth · 13/09/2016 18:37

I might be being slow here, but they have just named the new editor, however it has slipped through the tea strainer which serves as my memory.

DadDadDad · 13/09/2016 18:39

Mitzi, Jelly - welcome, always great to have lurkers join the discussion!

PseudoBadger · 13/09/2016 18:49

"As a door slams shut in Rob's face, a new door opens for the new Archers editor. Are we expecting some New Tricks?"

Title?

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 13/09/2016 18:50

Actually:

"As doors slam shut in Rob's face and behind SOC, a new door opens for the next Archers editor. Are we expecting some New Tricks?"

But Kinnear Jones also worked on Eastenders - according to TA website. Sigh.

Putthetulipsthere · 13/09/2016 19:08

Well done Lilian!

Putthetulipsthere · 13/09/2016 19:13

I meant well done for confronting Justin of course. 😀.

BOOP for hearing some Ambridge residents discussing Rob in a negative light at last. And chat about flower and produce show.
