Thanks Pseudo,

I've finally admitted to myself that I can't make the hour this evening, boo hoo! So ... when's the earliest I can LA? Do I have to wait till after the repeat on Monday or will it be available immediately after this evening's broadcast.

I feel quite 'whatever will be will be' about tonight and the verdict. I want to hear the jury chat, and i know, whatever happens, there will be wailing from Pat, Helen will be traumatised for years to come, and the Knob will be as evil as ever. And feeling vengeful of course.

Mellowmarsh · 11/09/2016 14:01

My bet is on Helen being found not guilty btw. Because none of us could bear it if she weren't and because without it there is presumably no custody battle and presumably SW want a custody battle for the drama.

I am also hoping that there is a character called Elizabeth on the Jury so that the actor who used to be Nigel has an opportunity at some point to exclaim, 'Gosh Lizzie!'.

(p.s. Bring Back Nigel! I don't mind if everything since his death was just a dream! He was my FAVOURITE!)

cats are not pets but pest control in the countryside

You can LA once the broadcast is finished. I put the kids to bed at 7, and then listen once they are settled, unless I'm saving it up for a tedious housework task later.

please, please wrap up this SL and get back to the everyday story of country-folk. Realising I have just spent 75 minutes of my life I will never get back again listening to the trial - I did not realise it was the entire omnibus! If I hear hysterical Pat again and how 'brave' Helen is (she should have told the truth from the beginning IMO) I too will start screaming 'oh no'
All just my personal opinion of course as I know lots of you are very deeply invested in the fictitious SL.

Fink I often catch up immediately after an episode has been aired, so I expect it will be the same tonight

They are also pets. We had a long series of cats over the years. I'm not convinced of their pest control value. They were quite good at transferring pests to the house to play with later, though...

I reckon tonight might be an hour of debate, to end with, "Has the jury reached a verdict you can all agree on?"
"We have, m'lud."
"And what is that verdict?"

7-8 is the bed time hour, so I will be stuck waiting until 8 to listen!

I'm really hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the jury deliberations, and that it will be interspersed with Ambridge's own 'jury' deliberations.

So if Helen goes down, but presses charges re coercive control, surely the custody of children would be questioned, would they be taken into care?

Dreading tonight's episode too. Really hope for a not guilty verdict but I don't trust the SWs.
Glimmer of hope - a defense barrister on woman's hour said Helen should get off. Although also said that Anna most certainly did not do a good job of cross examining Rob.

Report
OhTheRoses · 11/09/2016 14:27

I think Helen may get a short sentence, just a few months more and there will be a hearing with SWs to transfer the children's care to Pat and Tony pending the outcome of counter charges against SOC. Rob's past will slowly creep up on him and Miles will appear.

Helen will come out and become an active campaigner for victims of domestic violence.

Report
OhTheRoses · 11/09/2016 14:28

Against Rob but I can think of a few for SOC!

I was just refreshing my memory of the law on self-defence.

www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/self_defence/

Anna really was staggeringly bad, as her questioning seemed to ignore just about every point that needed to be made to establish self-defence.

Based on the actual facts, I think that Helen should probably be acquitted. Based on what the jury has heard, I think that they might convict her of wounding with intent. I was trying to see if there was any possibility that there was a defence which could reduce the intent part of the offence allowing for a lighter sentence, because on the current charge it's a 5 year minimum sentence.

Vango · 11/09/2016 14:51

Ah, but since we haven't heard everything that the jury has heard, we can only hope that some of that evidence will be discussed tonight.

Ebear - I was just coming on to post exactly what you did, except I would have had Nigel Havers as the foreman Grin
In fact I would bet 10 shillings on it

There's no legal chance of a mistrial because of Anna's poor defence, as described above?
Will the 2.00pm broadcast tomorrow be the last 15 mins of tonight's episode, or a brand new episode, I wonder?

OMG, tomorrow afternoon's episode takes up the usual TA spot AND the Afternoon Drama. Seriously? Pah.

I assume they're taking over the afternoon play slot - and indeed, the schedule I just checked confirms that.

Thanks to psuedo for her sterling work. AGAIN . I've been catching up with the omnibuses.

Anna does seem to sound a lot more masterful.

I read that after tonight's, unheard of, one hour episode, SOC's work effing up TA will be finished HOORAY !! I hope the Grauniad is not making one of it's mistakes Grin
