jellybean the green ink is a reference to 'green ink letters' which express passionately held views on things others might consider of marginal importance. It wasn't meant as a criticism, but as light-hearted joshing.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 12/09/2016 14:42

jellybean I was also annoyed at SOC on Today but not about the "swearing" comment. Someone had tweeted or written in to ask whether that would be the end of the Eastenders type storylines.

I felt SOC's response was dismissive and he seemed to characterise the complaint as prudish Archers listeners not wanting "real ishoos" to be dealt with.. whereas I think the tone (certainly on this thread) is to complain against the Eastenderisation ie sensationalist and inaccurate treatment which has meant that the "real ishoo" hasn't been dealt with properly. Grah.

Anyway he's gone now - hurrah!

Vango · 12/09/2016 14:44

I hope I didn't offend you either! His comments chimed with me, that's all 😁, so I felt that he was admitting how frustrating his storyline had been. My 12yo DD listens without swearing (though I've been known to think FFS from time to time lately 😁😁).

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 12/09/2016 14:47

Ooh I've turned the air blue listening to the Archers!

Vango · 12/09/2016 14:51

Shivers down my spine again listening to the verdict. Worked very well as a one off drama.

TakingTheFifth · 12/09/2016 14:52

Sorry if I missed it, I don't listen every day, but does Helen actually know that Henwee is with knob except on Sundays? Her family might not have told her what happened.

When Helen was greeting her family I was surprised she didn't mention Henwee but then I thought, perhaps she thinks he's safe at bridge farm and she'll see him when she gets there.

TheAntiBoop · 12/09/2016 14:53

I don't swear at the radio but I do swear at soc!!

LillianGish · 12/09/2016 15:01

How does parental responsibility work? Easier to arrange than adoption so does that mean it can be easily rescinded - if for example the person who asked for it changes their mind? Now Helen is back home without a stain on her character wouldn't she just get Henry back - she is his mum after all - or does Knob's parental responsibility accord him equal rights? I can see (though not agree) how he trumps Tony and Pat, but surely Helen must now trump him? Won't any custody battle be over Jack?

BertrandRussell · 12/09/2016 15:05

My dp has parental responsibility for dd and I would have to go to court to get it removed. And I am very unlikely to win. But he is her father. Surely the fact that Rob is not Henry's father must make a difference?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/09/2016 15:22

From a quick google, it looks as if it's very difficult to get parental responsibility revoked, even where the person with PR is a stepparent who hasn't been in the child's life very long. The other parent with PR would have to go to court and the circumstances would need to be absolutely exceptional, e.g. the stepparent had been found guilty of assaulting the child.

In these circumstances, it really does seem a mistake that PR can be granted so easily. Helen should have been obliged to get independent legal advice and maybe then wait six months to make sure the relationship would last.

RockNRollNerd · 12/09/2016 15:23

Think all my thoughts on last night have been pretty well coverd in the above.

I really hope today's episode is around the village's reaction to the trial. It's all been reported in the press presumably. Like everyone else I'm particularly keen to hear what Susan has to say. There must also be som Adam/Ian fall out - I think that until the trial Adam didn't know that Ian knew...?

Agree with others that I can't see how they can possibly leave Henry with Rob now, two people said under oath he raped them. I wonder if Shula will get her chance to put things a bit right by passing on how Bruce talked about Henry - I can't see any other reason why they had that bit of plot in there otherwise. (And this is what SOC has reduced us to - we know that nothing just happens in TA any more it only comes to pass if it serves the GREAT GOD OF PLOT).

JudyCoolibar · 12/09/2016 15:35

I can only stand another 30 years of Rob if he spends at least ten of them in prison, and the rest of the time on the basis that whenever anyone from Ambridge encounters him they tell him to bog off. One of the most frustrating aspects of the last two years has been the way everything fell his way - Helen got pregnant immediately, baby was a boy, turned out Jess' baby wasn't his, culvert conveniently forgotten about, Shula lies to support him, etc etc. So now that the big one hasn't gone his way, he now needs several more tastes of people making it very clear that they are no longer taken in by him.

Ackeeandsaltfish · 12/09/2016 15:44

I'm hoping Rob's recognised acting skills will land him a lucrative job in another long-running series, so he either moves away or is killed off, so that we never hear from him again in the Archers.

May I suggest carbon monoxide poisoning at the Tichenor farm in Hampshire, that would carry off Bruce and Ursula as well, and serve as useful pubic information about the risks of faulty boilers.

Ackeeandsaltfish · 12/09/2016 15:46
  • I mean the actor playing him obviously
Vango · 12/09/2016 15:48

useful pubic information about the risks of faulty boilers

😁😁

So much scope for the public service broadcaster!!

Ackeeandsaltfish · 12/09/2016 15:50

obliged to be of service to the Gas Safety Trust!

JudyCoolibar · 12/09/2016 15:54

how dare SOC say typical archers fans swear at the radio...i am so angry I have emailed radio 4 asking for an apology...i managed not to swear in it aswell !

I didn't hear him say it, but he's certainly not wrong in my case. Many a journey home after work has been enlivened by me yelling "Fuck off!", usually at Rob (though Pat and Pip have had their fair shares).

Toomuchtea · 12/09/2016 15:58

Excellent plot idea Akee.

Shallishanti · 12/09/2016 16:16

surely now there will have to be a case against Rob of coercive control (for which there is plenty of evidence)
there is a residency hearing coming up- no reason for Helen NOT to have residency now, and plenty of reason to restrict Rob- supervised access I would suggest- and see how he likes that
does anyone know where Henry's passport is? Hmm

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/09/2016 16:26

The brilliant Ambridge Observer has the reactions of villagers to the outcome of the trial.

I particularly enjoyed Soosan's and St Smugula's Grin

I do wish the author of AO was SOC's successor.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/09/2016 16:33

Does Henry even have a passport - I don't remember them ever going abroad. P&T did assume they could take him on a foreign holiday at short notice, but don't people usually wait till their kids actually need a passport before getting one - they only last 5 years and the kids change so quickly. Rob probably has docs such as Henry's birth certificate locked away somewhere though.

Minimammoth · 12/09/2016 16:35

It will hit her later, as will many other things. I am not looking forward to more , or even worse hideous twisting/ torture with Rob, but hope people will now be vigilant. No wonder he moved from job to job. Hope Justin ditches him. Hope we have a 'high noon' shoot out on the village green with R and Ian.

Shallishanti · 12/09/2016 16:35

of course he should be charged with rape as well but doubtful it would get to court

DadDadDad · 12/09/2016 16:39

Thanks, Bore, reading that AO page now. Yes, I liked Shula's "I thought I couldn’t torment myself any more about this, but I’m pleased to say I can." Grin

Putthetulipsthere · 12/09/2016 16:46

Yes Bertrand re your earlier post that surely Helen should have Henry as she was found innocent on the basis she had to defend Henry from him! I posted something similar on Saturday when musing on the implications of a not guilty verdict.

Surely Henry's social worker would step in now?? I had an Archers sabbatical from May onwards, so I'm not quite sure if we've heard from his social worker or not?🤔
