What day is it again?

OP posts:
DesolateWaist · 10/09/2016 07:53

I grew up in Deepest Darkest Dorset.
I think what makes it more involved than city life is that everyone knows everyone. And they know the families going back generations too.

FinallyHere · 10/09/2016 07:55

Thank you timetogetup0630 that confirms my own suspicions...#ImplausibleStoryline

Eastpoint · 10/09/2016 07:56

Boffin Please could you post embellished summaries of your village life & I will read those very happily rather than things about The Archers.

Didn't Lynda set up a book club a few years ago, I'm sure she did with Jenny, can't remember who else was in it, maybe Jim?

I agree that the existing cast members would be far more relevant & appropriate in an extended episode/conclusion to the trial than bought in celeb actors. SOC's style will not be missed.

I would forgive him if he brought in John Finnemore, Benedict Cumberbatch, Roger Allams & Stephanie Cole, we could have had a Cabin Pressure based jury.

JasperDamerel · 10/09/2016 07:57

Nigel Havers is their uncle, too, isn't he?

NotdeadyetBOING · 10/09/2016 07:58

Like all of you lovely people, I am staggered at SOC's arrogance. Plumbing new depths with this jury line up of 'celebs'. Unbelievably insulting to all. Are we supposed to 'enjoy' their celebrity (thereby not being able to forget who they are in real life and believe the characters they are playing)? What is the POINT? Other than more headline grabbing narcissism. As a PP said, I suppose at least we can toast his departure so not all bad. But I am genuinely surprised that he has seen fit to do this - and seems to believe we will be impressed, somehow.

Having got all that off my chest, I can't deny I will be glued to my radio and if any member of my family dares to interrupt I hope for their sake I am not near one our nice, new, v. sharp kitchen knives

Gruach · 10/09/2016 07:58

Gasp0 that is shocking.

I want to hear more about the Dr Who nepotism please Boffin.

trufflehunterthebadger · 10/09/2016 08:00

Also, if H is found guilty of the lesser charge, isn't that still a longer sentence than the 5 months she's been on remand? At least now she'll get visits from her mother, Henry and Kirsty though.

Time spent on remand is worth double so if helen was convicted amd sentenced to 1 yr custody she would serve 2 months. If she is convicted i doubt she would get more than 1-2 years.

This has been such an unrealistic load of bollocks (not guilty trial for att murder in 5 months ? The file wouldnt even be finished !) that i cannot wait for it to be over.

Goodbye SOC and good effing riddance

Gruach · 10/09/2016 08:11

Tomorrow is being puffed on the News right now. Shock

Actual BBC R4 News.

Masterly. Hmm

DesolateWaist · 10/09/2016 08:13

I've just looked at Kate O'Mara is Tam and Amy's aunt but I couldn't see and relation to Nigal Havers. I wouldn't be surprised though, they look similar.

ibrowze · 10/09/2016 08:20

More nepotism - Simon Williams (Justin) married second time Lucy Fleming (Miranda) niece of Ian Fleming who wrote James Bond hit man played by Sean O'Connor. Innit.

TheAntiBoop · 10/09/2016 08:30

I hope they reverse socs decision to go for established actors/drama school clones. It's taken away from the drama instead of adding to it afaic

NelsonsWineBar · 10/09/2016 08:33

Sounds like I'll have to open the wine bar very early tomorrow.

Cos I want Rob to be exposed and all this gloom and drama to end. I want the Flower and Produce Show to be the focus for the next few weeks. I want to listen again and not have to read this thread to find out what's happening before I do listen.

Anyone know what happened to Shane?

R4 · 10/09/2016 08:34

I am not impressed by SOC's celebrity trial for all the reasons stated above.
But I am amused by MNers complaining that TA is not like their version of country life which features land grabs and families going back several generations. It seems that the Williams Acting Dynasty, currently being overly-featured in TA, are doing quite a good impersonation of country life. Ironic!

ibrowze · 10/09/2016 08:36

Custody - What are chances of Helen keeping kids if charged with WWI? Do courts award against anyone convicted of GBH?

shinynewusername · 10/09/2016 08:38

I also grew up in Deepest Darkest Dorset. Our crumbling village hall was burnt down for the insurance money. By the village hall committee Smile

NelsonsWineBar · 10/09/2016 08:40

at shiney and the village hall committee burning down the village hall.
Like something from Miss Marple. Where the bumbling local PC would cough and ignore.

ibrowze · 10/09/2016 08:44

Just a thought that if SOC really wanted to flag up crime of coercive control and DA to give victims courage to step forward, won't H be acquitted on Sunday/Monday ?

ibrowze · 10/09/2016 08:48

shiny and boffin you are making TA sound like lightweights. Knobsworths aside.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/09/2016 08:51

Bloody hell, it's even worse than I thought! Thanks to Jasper for pointing out the Nigel Havers connection. His second wife (sadly deceased) was Simon Williams' sister.

How can they squeeze Kate O'Mara in? Too late for Celia Johnson, Lucy Fleming's mum, sadly. She would have fitted right in to vilage life. They could have brought Trevor Howard in too to play a local GP with an interest in ocular matters. Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/09/2016 08:52

*village. Sigh. Getting carried away there. The Rachmaninov in the background is becoming overwhelming.

BoffinMum · 10/09/2016 08:58

BOFFINMUM

Put some sports clothes on, not that, do you have pants on?

MINIBOFF

This is my willy, haha.

BOFFINMUM

Come on, it's tennis in a minute.

BOFFINDAD

I am not taking him, it's a monsoon out there.

BOFFINMUM

Come ON, Miniboff, get your waterproofs on.

BOFFINMUM

Oh look, it's a text from Buffcoach. Tennis cancelled because of the weather. Take it all off again, Miniboff.

Do you think I should just pop down there to consult with Buffcoach to check about rearranging a lesson? I don't want him waiting there on his own in the pavilion, what with the book club zombies on the loose again.

HalsallRedux · 10/09/2016 09:00

At one time Nigel Havers was married to Polly Williams, the sister of..........

........no prizes for guessing who Hmm

HalsallRedux · 10/09/2016 09:00

Sorry, Gaspode just beat me to it Grin

BoffinMum · 10/09/2016 09:03

This may out me but I live in the village where some years ago there was a full on confrontation between the two main women in a certain leading scientist's life which as I understand involved one more or less throwing the other across the bonnet of a car at the local garage. Can he have a bit part?

ArgyMargy · 10/09/2016 09:25

I don't think I can be arsed to listen to an hour of SOC celebrity shite. I'd rather read these threads and contemplate life in Midsomer Boffin.
