I listened to the repeat, jess said that she met up with rob after she'd graduated, when he moved to London. He'd wanted her to go to his uni but didn't get the grades. So - she escaped his hooks for a couple of years, presumably rob realised he couldn't keep her isolated and controlled at a different uni. But then he comes back - london isn't exactly an obvious place for an agricultural bod. Presumably she had a social work job there before he moved them to the US. (Yes, the SWs clearly dont know about US visa regulations).

Any clue why they returned from Canada?

I've just been in tears listening to the story of Kiranjit Ahluwaliah on R4, she killed her husband in 1989 after years of abuse, was jailed and got out on appeal with help from Southall Black Sisters. They tied the story to the Archers.

It was inspiring to hear how she had rebuilt her life - another reminder that this storyline is real for some people. (I've been lurking for a long time and enjoying the thread.)

The working visa for Canada is very difficult to get according to a friends son who did manage it. I think they offer a certain amount, around 2000 rings a bell then there's a free for all on line to get one. I was told there's only about a half hour window before they've all gone so you have to be poised over your keyboard on a very good connection when they open. So possible for Rob with planning but unlikely for Tom post the wedding that never was.
