What day is it again?

OP posts:

V disappointing twist.

Shallishanti · 08/09/2016 19:19

a juror was tweeting about the trial- it's being suspended (I think) while the judge decides what to do

selsigfach · 08/09/2016 19:19

Argh autocorrect!

EsmesBees · 08/09/2016 19:20

Anyone know what would happen in real life in this situation? Do they have 'reserve' jurors they can bring in in these cases?

Redcliff · 08/09/2016 19:21

I can't believe they would stop the trial. Do they have spare jurors - in my head they have a couple of extras in the court room in case someone is taken ill - I may be imagining it though

Stickerrocks · 08/09/2016 19:22

I think they usually drop a juror. It's not that unusual, as people don't seem to understand the concept of confidentiality.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2016 19:24

Wikipedia says they can carry on with as few as 9 jurors. They have to have provisions like this in case a juror falls ill or dies. Presumably it's off to chokey for the idiot who tweeted.

TopazRocks · 08/09/2016 19:24

Bruce had some wonderful lines, didn't he. I imagine this pause will give time for Knob to threaten witnesses like nobody's business. And it'll be interesting to hear what Neil and Soosan are talking about.

Shula - did she not move her seat away from Bruce? Perhaps I misheard

starsorwater · 08/09/2016 19:25

baffled

TopazRocks · 08/09/2016 19:27

I think they do take a dim view of jurors doing this. A few cases in recent years IRL. I don't think they lock them up though. Not till after they are tried.

JustCallMeDory · 08/09/2016 19:28

Shula did move away from Bruce - I think she left the public gallery altogether.

Tuktuktaker · 08/09/2016 19:28

I got from the last bit, that given the evidence given by both his wives that Rob was a rapist, that the Judge might say there was now no case to answer, or that the CP might drop the prosecution, given the character of the victim. This is doubtless wishful thinking on my part. I am really peeved at having been drawn back in, only to have it destroyed by the tweet thing. I cannot tell you how much I want to kill SOC. Wink
Will there be massive fall-out with Adam for poor Ian? How will that play, I wonder?

ApocalypseSlough · 08/09/2016 19:29

Shula was disgraceful. What a wet lettuce.

Olympiathequeen · 08/09/2016 19:29

from what I remember of gcse law (not a lot!) you can carry on with fewer jurers, but the tweeter could end up charged with contempt of court. I thought it was 10 but I bow to Wikipedia Grin

Vango · 08/09/2016 19:30

I'm pretty certain it won't be a mistrial! This twist is just to keep us on our toes since the rest of it is becoming a bit predictable.

I hope Mr Bywater remembers to question Rob again about the statement 'I was pretty sure she wouldn't turn up'. I liked that slip-up.

JustCallMeDory · 08/09/2016 19:30

Poor Ian - he really got it both barrels, didn't he?

MoonHare · 08/09/2016 19:31

Offs! Just as it was gaining momentum and some interesting additional input from Jess.

What is the true legal position? Surely they're not going to duck responsibility and just not see the trial storyline through to its conclusion? Or does this hiatus give opportunity for more juicy goings on to be added? Ian/Adam fallout. Rob goes off menacing people and gets caught? Berrow fm wrong doings have time to be revealed???

Gherkinsmummy · 08/09/2016 19:32

Why is Bruce not in contempt of court? Or is that just a tv thing? Why doesn't Anna object more? Again, is that tv?

Shallishanti · 08/09/2016 19:33

I can't remember the details of the Ian/Adam and Rob situation- did Ian hear anything new there?

SingingAvocado · 08/09/2016 19:33

Sigh … stringing us along even further … hoping it as others say and they can continue with fewer jurors. Poor Ian didn't get a chance to say what he wanted / needed to. And neither he nor Jess said Rob had threatened them. Why not? What Jess had to say was pretty damning though (hopefully).

EsmesBees · 08/09/2016 19:35

Maybe this is just a devise to drag things out to the hour long special? I thought we were moving surprisingly rapidly through the witnesses.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2016 19:36

We may not have heard all of Ian's testimony. We certainly didn't hear all of Jess's, thanks to Bruce.

Butteredparsn1ps · 08/09/2016 19:36

Now that the Echo has been published, please can we hear Susan's reaction?

Poor Ian.

Shallishanti · 08/09/2016 19:36

sounded like the prosecution barrister is despairing of Rob
What's the situation if he says something to him that clearly incriminates him/undermines the prosecution? (like, say, having been raised by Bruce)

Alleycat1 · 08/09/2016 19:38

Olympia. Yes, can carry on with only 10 jurors if necessary, according to my partner. He's a retired solicitor.
