Orange Is The New Black in Ambridge. Just ask Helen. But will anyone in The Archers ever ask her WHY?

I reckon this thread will see us through the Euros, both footy and referendum. Await the clunky topical inserts here.

OP posts:

Yes, it's well and truly AbFab now. Poor Phoebe. I too don't believe for one moment that JD would swan off right in the middle of exam time, leaving her to Kate's not-so-tender mercies.

Also thinking about Anna's arrival in Ambridge. It's painfully contrived....there must be something behind it other than a few tense exchanges with Carol (though it's interesting that she's not always as laid-back and languidly amused as she usually likes to appear). Unfortunately I think there will be some sort of confrontation and/or involvement with Knob.

Brine was discussing anniversary-present ideas with Adam only about a month before the party. I don't believe for one moment that you can get Venice Simplon tickets at such short notice (I had a quick look: for the full week trip, the earliest available are September).
Why do they write such rubbish?

And I agree: JD would have told him in no uncertain terms to re-book a better date.

Gumpendorf · 22/06/2016 10:26

Unfortunately I think there will be some sort of confrontation and/or involvement with Knob.

Because it's the sort of thing that might happen in the real life that SOC is keen to replicate.

Thoroughly pissed off with the SW now. Lillian was always self centred but she wouldn't have been so totally irresponsible towards Phoebe either. Angry

R4 · 22/06/2016 10:53

A few months ago Lillian was the one with books and papers all over the desk, working out budgets & spreadsheets and trying to improve her lot. You think she might empathise a little with Feebs.
What happened to Amside btw? It seems to have gone quiet. Has it gone bump or does it run itself?Hmm

ppeatfruit · 22/06/2016 11:29

C'mon now Feebs is not a tiny child, she could stay somewhere else. Agree it's a silly plot line. Lil is 'high' on love and Kate doesn't give a shit is not known for her motherly qualities!!

TheAntiBoop · 22/06/2016 11:34

It's jd leaving her that is weird.

Surprised Phoebe hadn't already figured out that staying with Roy was the best bet.

AugustaFinkNottle · 22/06/2016 13:20

What is daft is that Phoebe has always had somewhere she can stay in the shape of her room at her father's. To be honest, I'm amazed she didn't go there the moment the first of Kate's "customers" rolled up the driveway.

ppeatfruit · 22/06/2016 13:30

True Augusta I was surprised she didn't move into Roy's a long time ago, but of course that wouldn't be such a 'funny' story line as the drunken irresponsibility taking place in Home Farm atm.

Scarydinosaurs · 22/06/2016 14:12

To be fair- middle of exams, fraught relationship with her father that had only just begun to mend...it makes sense to me.

Kate is such a selfish dick, she has ramped it up. Maybe her and Linda together can do something nice to atone for their sins.

TheAntiBoop · 22/06/2016 14:20

Like Lillian pushing Kate into the sinkhole?

SybilEngineer · 22/06/2016 15:00

Do you think the crack in the wall at Grange Farm could be something Really Serious (sinkhole?) that could render it unsellable to anyone other than the Grundys?

Or am I going beyond the foolishness of SOC? Disclaimer: I don't know anything about sinkholes

BlackeyedSusan · 22/06/2016 15:07

there was a problem with brookfields drive that disappeared into the script writing sinkhole never to be mentioned again.

and yes it is all too silly and contrived.

it was better when it was about bees, and cows and relationships and the characters were three dimensional. now it is all sensationalist. (roads, stabbings, ) and contrived with wooden characters. there may have been stuff happening but not so much all at once and all out of context.

kate has always been the worlds shittiest mother though.

RockNRollNerd · 22/06/2016 15:40

Maybe all the damp and the cracks and everything else are a consequence of the sinkhole which in turn is caused by the blocked culvert of oblivion and all these forgotten story lines will get wrapped up in one go. Grin

Either that or the crack in the wall is going to be like that thing in Doctor Who and the storyline will get even more convoluted.

TopazRocks · 22/06/2016 16:30

Are there instances of JD actually 'going ballistic' with Lilian or indeed Kate? She always come over to me as a bit of soft touch to me, maybe occasionally gets a it firm, sets boundaries, but mostly just goes for the easiest for her option. Maybe I'm being unfair. But event the Ruari fiasco and taking him on was the option that suited her - she hung onto her husband, the house, the lifestyle, and then fairly quickly the love child/cuckoo was sent off to 52-week school. I wonder how she'll deal with the shit hitting the fan with Ian and Adam and her careless words to Knob - if anything does happen.

TopazRocks · 22/06/2016 16:34

BTW, apologies in advance to all members of the JD fan club. I am a neutral just now, I think!

Gruach · 22/06/2016 16:45

IIRC Jenny was pretty firmly on the other side when Kate tried to spirit baby Phoebe out of the country.

Ruairi seems to go home in the normal fashion ... I doubt that Henry would be so lucky if Rob got his way.

KingscoteStaff · 22/06/2016 16:49

Wasn't it the Bridge Farm drive that had a mini sink hole?

I seem to remember thinking that it was leading up to Helen breaking her leg and being blamed for not waiting for her lift home.

Maybe there are just holes everywhere now.

Gruach · 22/06/2016 16:52

Oh yes! We speculated about the Bridge Farm thing on the spoilers thread. And then nothing came of it.

There's no doubt SOC will throw the entire village into one massive hole as he leaves ...

TheAntiBoop · 22/06/2016 17:33

Bridge farm had a pothole. Brookfield a sink hole

Jd was stern with Kate after the 'catching Phoebe in the act' nonsense. And also when she asked for money at one point.

Gruach · 22/06/2016 19:06

Now - they cannot possibly have a party for Chris Carter without him being there?

Gruach · 22/06/2016 19:16
Shock Shock

They did!

JessieMcJessie · 22/06/2016 19:18

And dire is not the word for the party scenes. There are no words. Sad

Minimammoth · 22/06/2016 19:18

Did what, do tell.

Minimammoth · 22/06/2016 19:28

Oh party for Chris without him being there

Gruach · 22/06/2016 19:30

Still cringing at the "maths genius" ...
