I've just browsed Lowfield for the first time - they really don't like Pat do they!

Are the scriptwriters having a competition about who can write the most boring dialogue for Pip?

Why is she there ?

I think Emma's moved beyond that now, Seek. One of the few good things of recent months - she and Fallon, two 'village girls' as Rob contemptuously described them, have done really well with all their ventures.

I'm not sure we were ever meant to laugh at Susan's ambition, more her pretensions. Betty and Mike were ambitious for Roy and Brenda(OK, maybe more Betty than Mike) and they both went off to university without anybody raising an eyebrow. Susan is a snob and a social climber in a way that none of the other lower income characters are. That's what's funny about her (when the writing comes off - it doesn't always).

I always thought they missed a trick with Susan. In her earlier years she was keen to better herself through training. She was a secretary at the estate office and went on IT courses, IIRC. She had to go through Post Office training later on. She would have been a great character to get involved with adult education - maybe get an accounting qualification or even do an OU degree. But as discussed here many, many times, education and training isn't the TA production team's strong suit.

Huge BOOP for Lynda and Susan - and Pat and Susan. I'm hoping Susan's top retail management skills will uncover some of Knob's incompetences in the shop. Pip and any or both of the Fairbrethren are some of the most tedious scenes ever - I'd rather listen to the paint drying on Lynda's shepherd's hut.

The idea is that she'll be released from cheesemaking duties so it won't impinge on village shop time. It's only temporary because they've enticed back whoever it was who worked there before - Anya? Which should have the side benefit of annoying Knob, because he liked to make out that she was totally incompetent.

We don't just laugh at the common folks. Jim, Brine, JD, Lynda, the Fairbrothers are all often the butt of jokes. I love Susan. There's at least one Susan in every village I've ever lived in. And an Eddie come to think of it.

She's not taking over the shop BYOS, just helping fill in for a few weeks until Anna (remember her? DD of HWSNBN) can come back and work there after being off "traveling".

Susan thinks she's taking over because Pat said "If you think you can manage..." and Susan heard the word "manage" and cut her off before she could say ..."a few extra shifts." Now Susan thinks she's going to use her "considerable retail experience" to take over at Bridge Farm
