I've just browsed Lowfield for the first time - they really don't like Pat do they!

OP posts:
Lorsaidthedean · 02/06/2016 20:12

Well that was hilarious.

R4 · 02/06/2016 20:33

I can cope with Eddie The Incompetent (if I really have to) but I am cross about Eddie The Ingrate - they shouldn't have written him as being so cavalier with O&C's newly refurbished home after they have been so kind to the family.

dairyfarmerswife · 02/06/2016 21:08

I'm confused Hmm

Will has offered Clarrie, Eddie and Joe No1 the Green because the tenants, Nick and someone(?)are leaving in a couple of months. But weren't EdnEmmur renting 1 the green before the flood? Why didn't they go back there, if it was habitable? I must have missed something...

Minimammoth · 02/06/2016 21:26

What a load of old ballcocks. Eddy is not that daft. I feel insulted and not amused.

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2016 21:29

Let's all laugh at the common people. Oh do fuck off.

BYOSnowman · 02/06/2016 21:37

oh but isn't it funny that silly old eddie couldn't afford to buy fancy pants chalk paint so made such a silly billy mistake making his own. ha ha

is the crack a hint that the house will collapse due to shoddy building work before CarOl return?

Where is Carol btw?

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2016 21:39

Laugh? I thought I'd never start!

BYOSnowman · 02/06/2016 21:41

if they want to do comedy sl they need to get a comic on board.

I get the impression SOC doesn't have GSOH

Gruach · 02/06/2016 21:59

I've decided it's something to do with the breathing. Pip and Ruth. I've never trained as an actor so don't know what I'm talking about at all - but the breathing through their lines when they speak to each other is all wrong. They sound like visitors in each other's lives. It's very noticeable, particularly since, within the parameters of acting on the radio, all the other mothers and daughters manage to sound vaguely right.

dfw I'm sure I remember Ed n Emma actually volunteering to give up No 1 the Green in favour of the olds - but it wasn't ready at the time. (I may have imagined this.)

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 02/06/2016 22:04

@PseudoBadger

Olivia please can you edit my title....

Yes, of course. So sorry it's taken so long. I missed my usual Thursday HQ stint last week as was away and twas too too busy on Tuesday to pop my head round the new thread door.

Alleycat1 · 02/06/2016 22:08

Flour in the paint to make it like the expensive chalky brand? Come on! Which moron thought of that! Eddie is a bit of a chancer but he's not brain dead.

BYOSnowman · 02/06/2016 22:21

Gruach - I think it's just bad acting

EBearhug · 02/06/2016 22:28

Flour in the paint to make it like the expensive chalky brand? Come on! Which moron thought of that! Eddie is a bit of a chancer but he's not brain dead.

Well, quite. And obviously you'd paint an entire wall before you noticed.

IrisPrima · 03/06/2016 07:03

Agree about the paint. Are we imagining a porridge like consistency?

BertrandRussell · 03/06/2016 07:15

When in doubt let's laugh at the yokels.

God, it pisses me off.

Alleycat1 · 03/06/2016 07:53

I feel the Grundys have been stereotyped as proper village idiots since SOC took over, and Clarrie is morphing into a really shrill fishwife. All the little subtleties in most of the characters seem to have disappeared and we are left with cardboard cutouts.

BYOSnowman · 03/06/2016 08:48

Yes. The same with the fairbros being written as posh Idiots. It's lazy stereotyping and I get the impression SOC holds pretty much everyone in contempt. And that means he can't write sympathetic characters.

It is a shame because with the archers you had fully rounded characters who you could love and hate. Now it is so plot driven most are one dimensional

AugustaFinkNottle · 03/06/2016 09:13

When I was a kid we used to make glue by mixing flour and water. Surely you'd just get a lumpy mess? And even if you couldn't work out in advance that something like that would happen, it would be bloody obvious within two brush strokes?

It might just have been credible for Eddie to try crushing actual chalk into the paint, but I suppose they realised it's not that easy to get hold of now that schools don't use it.

LillianGish · 03/06/2016 09:23

It's unrealistic and feels like a filler. The Grundy's predicament is potentially a good story, but not really a comedy. It seemed highly unrealistic in the first place that Caroline and Oliver would have asked them to move into their newly restored home, for the Grundies is to trash it is all too predictable - will they now magically extend their stay in Italy for a few months or perhaps move into Grey Gables for a bit (remember the Grundies hilarious stay there?) Not exactly gripping stuff - irritating if anything - they have missed an opportunity to explore rural poverty and local people being priced out of the areas where they grew up.

R4 · 03/06/2016 09:30

B&Q sell an "Authentic Period Colours Sand Chalky Matt Emulsion Paint" for £10.

Alleycat1 · 03/06/2016 10:01

Ah, R4 according to Eddie that is the price of a dinner out for two!
Yes, Lillian, they have really missed an opportunity as where I live it is the burning issue of the day.

BYOSnowman · 03/06/2016 10:06

But they're not interested in real life just ott drama

I don't think a single happens in ee that is believable anymore. And that's the way the archers is moving.

Snowcoveredthoughtcage · 03/06/2016 10:43

Where is Jess? WHERE IS JESS?

I have been imagining Ian getting permission to visit Hellin and her finally sobbing the whole story all over him. There is no way that Ian would have stayed away. The minute he heard about the stabbing he would have been calling the police to give a statement about the punch and the unpleasantness. Then he would have been demanding to see her in prison and getting to the bottom of the whole thing. That's what any half decent BFF, (obviously Kirsty can't) would be doing.

StVincent · 03/06/2016 10:44

SO how long did they say it was til CarOl come back? Sounded like soon - so how come they're not wailing and running round looking for houses like they were last time?

Eddie isn't stupid - he makes a living (sort of) as a handyman. FFS.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 03/06/2016 11:07

Yes, where is Jess? Apparently the story was all over the national press: Jess loathes Rob and would surely be very keen to come forward and say something? Or have they (SWs) just forgotten all about her, like the sodding culvert, and the cricket cheating, and every bloody other thing?
