I've just browsed Lowfield for the first time - they really don't like Pat do they!

OP posts:
GypsyFl0ss · 01/06/2016 00:11

Blimey!

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/06/2016 00:16

Ah, same old Keri - he always was rather touchy.

He went ballistic when the fictional Daniel, who was played at the time by Keri's son, got nicknamed 'Fat Dan' - Grin

AugustaFinkNottle · 01/06/2016 08:16

It would be interesting to know what has happened to statistics of women reporting and/or leaving abusive partners before and after the stabbing. I suspect there may well have been a rise previously from women who recognised that they were being abused and that they were not alone. However, given the extremely negative picture painted subsequently, it wouldn't surprise me if that effect has disappeared

CheesyWeez · 01/06/2016 11:26

Shula was having to be careful about Dan's diet at the time because he was on steroids for his childhood arthritis wasn't he? So what we heard ("not too many sweets now" etc) led us to believe he was Fat Dan. He wasn't necessarily fat, but it sounded like he was.

He now sounds very slim and handsome in his army uniform.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/06/2016 11:30

That's right Cheesy and iirc Keri had a massive rant about it on one of the threads Grin

BYOSnowman · 01/06/2016 11:32

Strikes me as someone who can dish it out but can't take it. Rather like soc

Tend to be the people most at risk of disappearing up their own arses

CheesyWeez · 01/06/2016 11:33

DadDadDad - I'm a daily lurker but would just like to report that I was pleased with the SODOFF acronym. We can still use it. "SODOFF was yesterday" How long do we think the fallout will last before new better-knitted plots come in?
Archers
Hope that worked. I wanted a little hesitant wave of the bunting/flag! hooray!

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/06/2016 11:41

New person not being appointed until September, I think?

So looks like no change in direction of storyline for a while

(interesting stuff on Spoilers thread, for those who go there - won't say anything here though, although not spoiler, per se)

Gumpendorf · 01/06/2016 11:55

IIRC, the job advert said 'take up duty in (mid?) September', Bore. So first influence on show will be late autumn.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/06/2016 12:07

Ah yes, Grumpendorf, you are right, of course.

So they could make annoncement quite soon then, but no change to what we are hearing for months yet.

We will know more when Lynda announces her Christmas Special - if it's not another Editor's vanity project then that will be a Good Sign.

BYOSnowman · 01/06/2016 12:10

I have been reminded of Toby and his drone

What a lovely topical insert. Isn't it nice that the sw read the papers and pick out the pertinent stories of the day.

Do you think he will get arrested for flying to close to a jumbo landing at Birmingham international? One can but hope.

(Still waiting for Freddie to convert to Islam and runaway to Syria - only to be rescued by cousin Dan and ifti (he is due a reappearance surely a he could criticise knobs cricket technique while he's here))

LillianGish · 01/06/2016 12:14

I think that while listening to the earlier part of the Knob and Hellin saga might have helped other women to recognise that they were in EA relationships - seeing that what Knob was doing was abusive and then equating that to things that were happening in their own relationships - I can't see how the conclusion has helped them in any way. Apart from the single, brief phone call to Women's Aid it has been a lesson in what not to do - rather than getting out while you can stay and confront your partner and stab him with a kitchen knife if he hands you one then refuse to say anything in your own defence when questioned. Also don't expect anyone to remember any of your partners behaviour beforehand or say anything in your defence whatsoever. If this had really been intended to help women like Hellin surely we should have had Women's Aid giving her advice on what to do (and what not to do) - even if she had subsequently ignored that advice at least other women in her situation could have been made aware of what help is out there and what their options are. For me this fails both as a convincing storyline and as a public information service. Badly done SOC, badly done.

BertrandRussell · 01/06/2016 12:43

Do we take it from Adam and Jennifer last night that the culvert blocking has been airbrushed out of history?

enochroot · 01/06/2016 14:02

It seems it was airbrushed the moment Charlie left. Was it why he was written out, I wonder. He had developed into an interesting character.

BYOSnowman · 01/06/2016 14:41

Well they needed rob to leave his job in dodgy circumstances so that he could take over Helens

That was achieved but then they had to get rid of charlie so no one knows

So a load of old baloney basically.

StVincent · 01/06/2016 16:11

I miss Charlie fittie too, Enoch.

I would guess a hard-working, long-standing woman Archers staffer will be doing the Editor's job for no extra pay during the summer.

ArgyMargy · 01/06/2016 17:27

So farewell then Sid. You were a great landlord. Apart from the Jolene thing.

ArgyMargy · 01/06/2016 17:28

Shallishanti · 01/06/2016 19:04

Shallishanti · 01/06/2016 19:06

hah! Rob reveals his true colours

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 01/06/2016 19:06

Hahaha Peggy you're an idiot but glad she's seeing rob being a shit

KingscoteStaff · 01/06/2016 19:07

And the scales drop from the eyes...

SealSong · 01/06/2016 19:07

Aargh PEGGY! Stop meddling!

SealSong · 01/06/2016 19:08

...but yes, I hope she sees him for who he really is now..

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/06/2016 19:08

If Peggy still excuses Rob after that, I will just . . .
