New thread for tonight's episode.

Do you like the decor then? My 'personal' assistant did it.

I'm thinking of starting a campaign

Don't free the Ambridge Attacker

and Pat should join her, maybe she could be done for contempt of court or for causing undue distress to the nation.

Northernlurker · 07/05/2016 09:24

I was an Umrat! Gosh, that's a long, long time ago.

Abraid2 · 07/05/2016 09:24

HA, redshoe!

The whole bail hearing seems unrealistic to me. A heavily pregnant mother with no previous criminal record, who didn't actually murder Rob, kept on remand?

Legal peeps, is this likely to happen in RL?

DoesFlossfloss · 07/05/2016 09:53

Bridge Farm need to poach Kirsty to run the farm shop. I'd love to hear what Fallon has to say about the loss of business to the Tearooms.

theredjellybean · 07/05/2016 10:07

the tea room is open and very busy ...i am sure there was reference to it recently, fallon commenting that people were coming to gossip etc

GrumpyOldBag · 07/05/2016 10:29

The business in the episode before last about calling the doctor really annoyed me.

Totally contrived way of creating a cliffhanger, which came immediately to nothing.

KingscoteStaff · 07/05/2016 10:31

SOC in Guardian this morning. Terribly full of himself and his literary knowledge. Massive spoilers and cast pics, so beware if you don't like that sort of thing.

He's such a twat

theredjellybean · 07/05/2016 11:04

oh god isnt he loathsome

theredjellybean · 07/05/2016 11:05

i have never read or seen an interview of him before, and had always thought the strong views on mumsnet were from listeners who wanted old style archers and didnt want such unpleasantness as everyday DV brought in...but i am sorry for thinking that of you all....he is utterly toady and revoltingly smug and frankly ghastly

theredjellybean · 07/05/2016 11:06

and while i am on the subject...please who is ruairi and what on earth is that spelling ??? presume pronounced rory....i am new to archers , hence do not know all the back stories

shinynewusername · 07/05/2016 11:12

Ruairi is the child of Brian and his late mistress, Siobhan, who was Irish - hence the spelling. She died of breast cancer, having moved back to Ireland with Ruairi. Brian persuaded Jenny that they should bring him up. He is the lowest maintenance child ever and rarely heard.

theredjellybean · 07/05/2016 11:15

oh thanks ...so he is actually there ? living with brian and jenny and lillian and phoebe ...we never hear him ...

Gruach · 07/05/2016 11:18

had always thought the strong views on mumsnet were from listeners who wanted old style archers and didnt want such unpleasantness as everyday DV brought in...but i am sorry for thinking that of you all....

Delighted that you've now seen the error in your assumptions jellybean.

Have a look at this summary of Brian Aldridge who is the father of Ruairi.

You'll also find all the other main characters in the same Who's Who.

shinynewusername · 07/05/2016 11:22

Ruari is at boarding school now, but you never heard from him even when he wasn't. He is in deep cover till Brian carks it and there is a vicious battle over who inherits the farm. Ruari is Brian's only biological son which, Brian being Brian, will probably lead to Ruari inheriting over his better qualified siblings.

Gruach · 07/05/2016 11:23

Ruairi is in his final year at a prep boarding school - so yes, in reality the gaps between hearing from him should never be more than three weeks. (Though we haven't heard from Ben at Brookfield for, surely, more than a year and a half and he's at the local day school ...) But we do quite often hear of Ruairi during his wonderfully long holidays.

BYOSnowman · 07/05/2016 11:27

So soc said that because it is Helens story we couldn't have her being killed by rob (the more likely scenario) because then her story has ended. For someone who thinks he's so clever how about he almost killed her instead?

He is such a disingenuous sod - we all know he's a ratings whore

theredjellybean · 07/05/2016 11:28

thankyou Gruach and i humbly beg forgiveness ...and will now spend saturday afternoon reading up on back story...

ppeatfruit · 07/05/2016 11:28

Apart from his private school fees of course shiny Grin

peppansalt · 07/05/2016 12:48

What's up with iplayer?
Saying last nights episode not available Angry

Vaara · 07/05/2016 12:53

I listen on Facebook and that wasn't available until this morning - it's usually straight after. Technical issues?

Vaara · 07/05/2016 12:54

When was the Brian and Siobhan story? It was that that got me properly hooked.

I always forget the ins and outs of the back stories. For instance that Brine isn't Adam and Debbie's father....

shinynewusername · 07/05/2016 12:57

When was the Brian and Siobhan story?

The affair started in 2001. I remember being in a remote part of Canada, bumping into a fellow Brit and having and an outraged conversation about it Smile

Vaara · 07/05/2016 13:01

Crumbs I've been actively listening on and off for 15 years then!

It was a great storyline - slow burning with a satisfactory denouement, then revisited when poor Siobhan died.
