I do hope Lynda has a carbon monoxide monitor in there...

Surely they'd be able to tell from fingerprints who held the knife first?

As it's a kitchen knife there's perfectly good reason for both their fingerprints to be all over it. So what is Rob had held it before Helen? He could claim he was using it to carve the tuna boak.

Stickerrocks · 26/04/2016 20:21

Meanwhile I've got the Jennifer Darling fairy ring thing sussed. I initially hoped that she had found a Stefan corpse shaped patch of grass in the woods, but was disappointed. Then I realised that George must have stolen the curtain fund, buried it in the woods and built an elaborate fairy grotto to help him find it again. Either that or we're about to have a Lynda- geo-caching storyline.

Back to the main story though. At least Jennifer is talking to Pat, but why hasn't Adam simply said to Brian that Rob was a nasty piece.of work? I also Don't believe that Pat & Tone haven't asked anyone else if they had ever seen Rob being awful to Helen.

spiker · 26/04/2016 20:22

Thank you to pp who posted the Victoria Wood TA link - I enjoyed it muchly. A couple of things (like Phil talking) suggested it was a few years old - if so DID ANYBODY ELSE NOTICE THE CUSTARD REFERENCE???

Stickerrocks · 26/04/2016 20:23

Doctor You have made me snort with laughter into my Wine.

shinynewusername · 26/04/2016 20:24

Ah, poor Oods. I blame David Tennant. Christopher Eccleston would never have let them down like that.

I wonder if Rob could be devoured by a black hole? It would only be marginally less realistic than the current storyline.

spiker · 26/04/2016 20:36

....there were packets of CUSTARD lined up in the window of Ambridge Organics!!! Surely by Hellin!

What does it MEAN??? What did the Simply Splendid Ms Wood know???

bilbodog · 26/04/2016 20:47

Im with gumpendorf as i think hellin is still in shock - and dont forget she has been gaslighted and put down for so long she cant trust her own judgement and had only just started to see that she was being abused.

There was a drama on tv many years ago about a well to do woman being gaslighted by her wealthy husband and he was raping her - she eventually took a knife to bed and stabbed him when he next raped her. She said nothing about the abuse she had suffered - it was very hard to watch, as she was obviously completely traumatised and in shock - she got sent to prison for murder. Her 8/9 yr old daughter had seen the aftermath with the knife in her mothers hand.

Anyone else remember that program?

Gumpendorf · 26/04/2016 20:53

That was the programme I was talking about bilbodog. it was called Criminal Justice 2 and Maxine Peake played the wife.

Being on remand isn't helping Helen at all. She needs some counselling.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 26/04/2016 21:00

bertrand I am with you on this. They are portraying her in a very unpleasant way.

And I also think it is getting boring and frustrating. I think SOC thought this would have listeners rivetted wishing for H to get off but right now I'd be quite glad if she disappeared off for a long stretch, Rob moved away and we nevet heard from either of them.

We all KNOW it is going to seem increasingly bleak for Helen but in the end she won't sell Brookfield, sorry go to prison. No doubt having attempted suicide and had the baby taken away first.

ODFOSOC.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 26/04/2016 21:03

and I am sure SOC would say in defence agai st being called prefictable and hackneyed that we the listeners didn't predict she'd stab him but in fact several.posters did we just hoped he wouldn't be so unoriginal.

As for all the twitterati who were pleased when she stabbed him. Not so bloody brilliant now is it? Which is why it is a crap 'resolution' to a dv sl.

harryhausen · 26/04/2016 21:08

Bilbodog - was it Criminal justice Series 2 with Maxine Peake and Matthew Mcfaddyen? He was a top doctor/surgeon and he's was abusing her. She stabbed him during sex?

She remained silent and Undescriptive about the abuse throughout the whole trail until the end when she revealed he used to rape her anally? She still went down though but for manslaughter rather than murder.

Gruach · 26/04/2016 21:10

ODFOSOC

Another one for the stealth thread titles cupboard.Grin

I really want to root for Helen, I want Rob to burn in hell (a shame he cheated death), and the smile to be wiped off Ursula's face, but I remember a few years ago (assuming it is the same Helen) that in spite of Tom trying to persuade her not to, she drove while drunk and ran someone over. And what did weak Tom do? Told the police he was the driver! I wanted to wring both their necks then.

2rebecca · 26/04/2016 21:24

I find Helen's memory loss unconvincing. She wasn't drunk why shouldn't she remember.? It makes it really unbelievable. It's also very unbelievable that the kids at Henry's school wouldn't have mentioned his mum being in prison for trying to kill his dad within half an hour of him arriving there.
Henry might also remember "daddy" attacking him and mummy trying to stop him. He's not 2.
All twaddle.
Real people have sadly good memories for stressful events. It's only in fiction memory loss is common.

R4 · 26/04/2016 21:28

Oh thank goodness. Helen enraged me but I thought if I came on here saying that then I would get told off for being unempathetic and unsisterly. Am mightily relieved that everyone else had the same reaction.
She blathers on about her precious Henry but won't lift a finger to help his situation. She should be in lioness-protecting-her-cub mode. She keeps saying it's "too hard". The only way that makes any sense is if she is hiding something to protect Henry, but we have discounted that (no fingerprints, no blood).
It made me laugh when SHWL was spelling out the position and Helen said that she didn't like the options - as if it was some menu she was choosing! Wake up and smell the coffee Helen.

Marilynsbigsister · 26/04/2016 21:30

Hello ! 47 yrs of Archers happiness. All spoilt by APPALLING sw . (No archivist is probably most to blame) ... Stopped listening 6 weeks ago. Don't really know what to do with myself.... Please tell me when the nonsense has stopped. Don't get me wrong , I think it's a valid story line but it HAS TO BE IN CONTEXT . Shula had a run in, as did Ian and Adam... Surely they would talk.... And Jenny and David with the Stefan issue, why have they not mentioned it...Jenny is so annoying she NEVER lets anything drop.... If you had listened for FORTY SEVEN YEARS (as I expect the producers to have done) they would know this.. Don't get me started on Pat...

NotdeadyetBOING · 26/04/2016 21:39

Doctor v. v. v. funny. Maybe shouldn't be, but there we have it.

So clearly we were all feeling the same RAGING frustration. Agree with Bertrand that there is a real danger of nasty slippery slope-itis leading us from desire to shake Helen and tell her to 'get a grip' to victim blaming.

BUT….. FFS woman - do yourself a favour and SPEAK! Am no expert in this field and maybe - just maybe - it is normal to develop self-protective amnesia, but I rather doubt it. You'd imagine she'd have all the ghastly Knob comments coming back to her during all her hours in the cell. Reliving the whole thing. Was rather feeling for Anna; not sure I'd have been able to be that patient.

And to think how excited I was when I realised we were going to hear from her again tonight get a life, woman

GreenMarkerPen · 26/04/2016 21:44

I can very well imagine that it's difficult to remember exactly.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 26/04/2016 21:46

Maybe the reason neither Helen nor Henry can remember anything about it and Rob isn't dead is because it didn't happen. (If only!!).

Maybe Rob gave them both Robhypnol and faked the whole thing.

ColdTeaAgain · 26/04/2016 21:55

I'm on the fence really. Either they are trying to portray Helen being in deep shock and disbelief or TASWAMA. Bit of both I think.

It's going to be dragged out for months isn't it Sad

AugustaFinkNottle · 26/04/2016 21:56

Helen must have hours of time to fill every day. Pleeeease can the scriptwriters give her the idea of utilising that time to remember and write down what happened on the vital night, and every single tiny incident when Knob abused her and Henry.

GreenMarkerPen · 26/04/2016 21:59

what are your thought of rob turning against ursula?
he seems very fed up with her being bossy.

birdsdestiny · 26/04/2016 21:59

Another one coming out of the closet to say Helen is driving me mad But she is not driving me mad in a 'why won't she do something', victim blaming way. She is irritating because she is Helen, who has always been selfish, entitled and completely unlikeable. At least they have been consistent in that regard. In fact for me, feeling nothing but sympathy and horror for a character I just can't stand, has made the storyline more effective. Feel a little better for my confession.

EsmesBees · 26/04/2016 22:02

Well, she has been controlled and worn down over two years. It may take a while before she gets the strength and self belief back to start fighting back. Plus she's probably completely exhausted. But yes, indeed, it's bloody annoying to listen to.

EsmesBees · 26/04/2016 22:13

Also, I am genuinely worried for Henry. I know it's just fiction but the nature of the Archers means we could get to hear him grow up with all this hanging over him over decades. I can't believe that more of the characters are not more concerned about him.
