Anna! tell her to get a BLOODY GRIP!!!

Bea · 26/04/2016 19:15

Ugh! I know Helen has had a god awful time... but the pitiful voice is beginning to grate!

ColdTeaAgain · 26/04/2016 19:16

Maybe Anna should just give her a good shake!

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 26/04/2016 19:16

Oh Helen FFS!!! Pull yourself together.

Bea · 26/04/2016 19:16

OMG! helen! Are you that dim! ??? "what's the point?" are you flippin' joking!!!

Oh how i wishto hear about Linda's shepherds hut and the love life of Pip (yes it is that bad!!!!)

GrumpyOldBag · 26/04/2016 19:17

SmallLegs I just came on to post exactly the same thing!

Bea · 26/04/2016 19:17

a good shake!!! yes please!!!

EmilyDickinson · 26/04/2016 19:18

Is it that Helen can't remember what happened? Isn't willing to remember what happened? Or can't bring herself to talk about it?

She seems to have so little recall of events. Does anyone know if that is usual? I haven't been in her position but was once mugged and remembered what happened very clearly.

Bea · 26/04/2016 19:20

Form an orderly queue ladies!!!

BYOSnowman · 26/04/2016 19:20

Steady on there bea. Things have to be a hell of a lot worse before pips love life is a better option

AugustaFinkNottle · 26/04/2016 19:21

I'm so glad it's not just me who wanted to give Helen a shake or a slap in that episode. Can she really not see that there's no point whatsoever wringing her hands about Henry and pontificating about where he should be unless she's prepared to do something about it by proving Knob to be unfit to look after him?

I can't believe that she wouldn't have gone through all this with her solicitor ages ago. He would have spelt out the same consequences to her as Anna did at a very early stage.

And it was quite annoying that, right at the end, she interpreted advice which included pleading not guilty as inevitably resulting in her ending up in prison.

Eastie77 · 26/04/2016 19:22

Jesus Christ on an effing Bike

What is wrong with her. Seriously. I've been listening as I drive to the supermarket and I almost crashed as I got so annoyed I wanted to hit the car stereo.

The drivelling, whiny voice is so irritating now.

Just explain what happened. Spit it out. YES HE WAS VIOLENT. I WAS PROTECTING MY SON.

There. Now that wasn't so hard was it?!

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 26/04/2016 19:22

I really, really do not like the way SOC is highlighting DA. Apparently it turns you into a knife wielding, blithering idiot. Hmm

This is going to sound v harsh but its fiction so I am going to say it. Rob was clearly abusing Hellin, I think SOC has based the current characterisation and the stabbing on women who have been through far more than Helen has.

She had plenty of reason to leave him but as yet there is no real explanation for her stabbing him nor for the totally rudderless state she is in now.

She is strong minded enough to point blank refuse to see her mother but not to make any effort to help herself. OR HER SON.

Grrrrr.

Bea · 26/04/2016 19:23

BYOSnowman.... I think we maybe be reaching that point!!!!!

AugustaFinkNottle · 26/04/2016 19:25

The trouble is with all of this is that - it's Helen. You get the distinct feeling that she's unwilling to try to remember because she feels that she's entitled to be set free and returned to Henry just because she's Helen.

And, actually, that's wrong, because in RL it could well be that an abused person is like that directly as a result of the abuse and trauma. It's really unfortunate that they're writing this so that we're all mega irritated with her rather than sad she can't defend herself properly.

Thymeout · 26/04/2016 19:34

Are we heading for an 'unfit to plead'? She certainly doesn't seem to be grasping the importance of having some kind of defence.

Is she still on anti-d's? Perhaps they need to adjust the dose.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 26/04/2016 19:35

She is just so Helen though.
Infuriating.

Alleycat1 · 26/04/2016 19:54

TA is now actually becoming as boring as some people have always thought! InHell drivelling on (and on and on) and refusing to help herself, PatnTone ineffectually wringing hands, Kirsty struck mute and Piggy wittering about nice TitchyKnob. I never thought I'd find myself longing for the cricket season!

leliondemer · 26/04/2016 19:56

Arghhhhhhhhhh. Just when I thought we may be getting somewhere. Glad to see everyone else was thinking the same. Why can't she comprehend what Anna was saying? Not enjoyable listening.

EasyToEatTiger · 26/04/2016 20:00

It is so much easier to see the situation from the outside. Isn't it? How often do any of us just groan at a family member/ friend's bad decision? And do we judge or listen? Frankly Rob 'n Arse are horrible listening. Too close to RL. We are mere observers being fed information by the Sws who chose what to let us know. We cannot go on shouting at the radio forever. At least in RL there may be some kind of response. GGGGGgggrrrrrrrrr.AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! puffffff....

Gumpendorf · 26/04/2016 20:01

I thought it all sounded v realistic. Helen's been controlled, is pregnant and is still in shock. She may be on anti depressants which will make her mind hazy.

She's blocked the stabbing from her mind, she probably can't piece together the gas lighting or remember the rapes. Our minds shut down under such pressure.

I think Anna recognises this and will be used to dealing with it. A while back someone mentioned the Maxine Peake Criminal Justice programme. Iirc, her character effectively sleep walked through proceedings and as a result was convicted.

Helen may yet be galvanised by the thought of Henry, especially as the family court are unlikely to return him to Pat and Tony.

At the moment, Helen is tired and confused. It all seems a lot of effort for a v uncertain reward (freedom). We're expecting Helen to be rational and she's been through too much. Smile

BertrandRussell · 26/04/2016 20:12

It's all part of the innate misogyny. "She's so annoying" "She won't help herself" "She'x unfit to plead" "She needs a shake"

I feel all those things too because that is how it's written. But what sort of message is that sending about the sort of woman who is the victim of domestic abuse? It really is only a small step from "Why can't she speak up for herself?" to "Why didn't she leave?"

BertrandRussell · 26/04/2016 20:13

Surely they'd be able to tell from fingerprints who held the knife first?

DoctorTwo · 26/04/2016 20:14

Cricket season's nearly upon us. I imagine Knob running up to bowl with his stoma in one hand like an Ood with his/her external brain.
