Well I would hope that as Ursula has been telling the police that Helen said she was going to kill him they may have asked 'oooh why was that then?' - and then both Rob and Ursula's lies would have been discovered.

But I'm no police expert obviously.

BeaufortBelle · 06/04/2016 19:44

No history of violence that we are aware of Bertrand except for what we know has been witnessed in the Archers.

EsmesBees · 06/04/2016 19:45

Nothing to add to the discussion. Just wanted to state again how much I hate how this story line is being played out.

OneMoreStepAroundTheBendIGo · 06/04/2016 19:45

I did appreciate the reference to the pie. And also references to "yesterday" and "tomorrow" to help us work out which day it is - my guess is that tonight it was Tuesday, if we're assuming custardgate happened on Monday.

BYOSnowman · 06/04/2016 19:46

The police have to understand the motive behind her threat to kill surely. They can't take it out of contex

EnglishFern · 06/04/2016 19:46

I don't know that if Rob doesn't die, any of the DV or his character would be relevant, can anyone confirm?

It would be section 20 assault (occasioning wounding with intent) and the defence would be self defence. And it wouldn't matter whether he'd been beating her up for years (which he hasn't) because the only relevant thing would be whether AT THAT MOMENT she had to use that force to save her or Henry's life.

Which I don't think she can prove.

So all the gossip/bad things Rob has done/bruises on Helen in the world won't help at that point.

On the flip side, if the prosecution can put enough doubt out there that Helen is troubled, unhinged it will start to look very plausible that she tried to seriously hurt/kill him because she didn't like him very much, essentially.

BYOSnowman · 06/04/2016 19:47

today is Wednesday on the archers

So that means Sunday and Monday were Monday and Tuesday was Tuesday morning

MrsCampbellBlack · 06/04/2016 19:47

I bet we're going to start finding stuff out about Rob's past. His violence to the hunt sab - that just doesn't come from nowhere. And of course Jess - am assuming the police will consider it relevant to speak to her?

BertrandRussell · 06/04/2016 19:47

Careful- there are people around who might get ever so cross if anyone suggests that thinking about sending a child to boarding school is a motive for murder! Grin

Nothing can get past the fact that she stabbed him 3 times.

EnglishFern · 06/04/2016 19:48

I think you're right Bertrand.

enochroot · 06/04/2016 19:48

I think it as a couple of threads back that I said it will all look very bad for Helen at this stage in the story. Everything seems stacked against her now but something will be found to save her. I have no idea what though.

Bruce speaks about and to his wife with exactly the same degree of contempt Rob uses.
I wonder if they're staying at Grey Gables.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/04/2016 19:49

Interestingly (to me, anyway), SOC, along with Louiza P, had planned to have a live Facebook Q&A session, but it's now been postponed...

BYOSnowman · 06/04/2016 19:50

Can't rob be prosecuted for the abuse though? Being stabbed doesn't absolve him of that

recyclingbag · 06/04/2016 19:53

Has someone posted this telegraph link already.

Says it would be better for Helen if he'd died.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/04/2016 19:53

[woo noise]

Mystic Bore predicts:

Miles knows something dark about Knob.
Miles will be a witness for the defence

[/woo noise]

AyeAmarok · 06/04/2016 19:54

Sorry, what's SOC?

MrsCampbellBlack · 06/04/2016 19:56

I think mystic bore is correct.

Also wonder if Rob did invite Bruce and Ursula to dinner that they just didn't turn up.

What a tangled web.

Guess Jess could also decide to press charges for rape and Helen? Goodness knows how that would all work.

Is poor Kirsty going to have to become Miss Marple and save Helen from prison?

MrsCampbellBlack · 06/04/2016 19:57

This is going to run for months though isn't it - how long would it take to come to court?

EnglishFern · 06/04/2016 19:59

From a 2010 Telegraph article - does say it applies where the man dies though, not sure if it applies where he survives...

The new defences, billed as the biggest shake up of murder laws for a generation, were introduced under amendments to the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.
Under the change, the defence of provocation to a murder charge has been replaced by a new defence of “loss of control” caused by “a fear of serious violence”.
The defence could also be offered in response to “words or conduct which caused the defendant to have a justifiable sense of being seriously wronged”.
It means a man who killed his wife in the heat of the moment after discovering she had been unfaithful - a so-called 'crime of passion' - would no longer have the defence of provocation.
But the defence would be available for those who were “seriously wronged”, such as parents who catch a paedophile molesting their child or a rape victim who is taunted by her attacker.

Imbroglio · 06/04/2016 20:00

The police will check Rob's history. I'm sure something will come up.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/04/2016 20:00

SOC* is Sean O'Connor - editor of The Archers and responsible for this entire storyline.

He's ex-Eastenders and is about to return there as head honcho.

*Not to be confused with SOK - Spawn Of Knob. Currently incbating inside Hellin.

ColdTeaAgain · 06/04/2016 20:00

Can't keep up with these theads, will read back later....

Well what a surprise, Bruce is a dick.

Am starting to wonder if Arse sent Knob to boarding school to keep him away from his father. She sounded scared of him. Assuming Miles went to the same school? Definitely history repeating itself.

Susan is the village idiot. She deserves the sack.

Minimammoth · 06/04/2016 20:01

Can Helen accuse him of the coercive manipulation whatsit, y y to the Miles thing.
This sounds an episode to miss.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/04/2016 20:01

incubating, ffs

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/04/2016 20:02

The scar on Knob's arm has something to do with it all.
