Rob - dead? No, no, he's, er, resting. He's just pining for the Canadian plains. As Helen is taken into custardy, discuss the Archers here.

So from Rob's point of view, the slap was self-defence/to bring her to her senses. She has been well and truly set up (repeating myself now).

BYOSnowman · 05/04/2016 20:09

So 3/4 women may be educated to the fact women are seldom believed etc

And 1/4 now believe they need to put up and shut up

ColdTeaAgain · 05/04/2016 20:10

It's not looking good is it Sad

Did it sound like he was going for Henry when she first stabbed him? He put the knife in her hand, is it possible in the heat of the moment she forgot she was even holding it? And then the next two stabs were genuine self defence as he turned on her again

BertrandRussell · 05/04/2016 20:11

"I'm thinking that WA and Refuge should just keep out of it now."

Absolutely. Now it's going down the psycho woman path. I wish I was strong enough to stop listening.

WannaBe · 05/04/2016 20:14

Helen admitted she attacked rob first when he slapped her. And in fact, we don't know that she didn't, do we? Now she has form.

The major injury was the abdominal one not the wrist one.

And I agree that WA and refuge need to stay out of this now, in fact it is incredibly bad form that they be gaining from this financially. That just giving page needs to be closed down.

Elendon · 05/04/2016 20:16

Vango, I think you are getting confused re the attack.

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 20:17

Sorry, I've caught up with the thread now.

I agree, it doesn't look good for Helen. And actually. I'm also leaning to the view that actually, she WAS in the wrong and maybe doesn't really have a defence that will stand up.

Vango · 05/04/2016 20:18

All I can say is that no wonder the entire Archers team is able to write a character like Rob so well. All those charities have been sucked in, manipulated and exploited in exactly the same way. And they still can't see it. WA - stop with the tweeting. Acknowledge that it's a crap, cynical ending to what could have been a valuable message. All so that SOC can go back to Eastenders in his blaze of ratings glory.

Elendon · 05/04/2016 20:18

The major injury was the wrist.

It's a fairly standard procedure re the thorax injury.

Vango · 05/04/2016 20:18

Elendon What have I said about the attack?

GigotdAgneau · 05/04/2016 20:19

WannaBe, I have decided not to listen as am disgusted by the way this is going. I am not even reading synopses and this page is the only recent one I have read. Am I to understand that bloody SOC has arranged it all so that Rob is looking like a victim and Helen will be imprisoned? %&Expletives Deleted*%&@@£$%

Elendon · 05/04/2016 20:20

Are we forgetting that Rob was going for Henry? Any bloke did that to my child....lioness takes over.

Elendon · 05/04/2016 20:22

Vango, Helen made a move towards Rob and he slapped her in return. Hardly an attack.

Vango · 05/04/2016 20:23

Elendon the 'slap' I'm talking about is the one he inflicted on her in the bedroom a couple of weeks ago. That's the one she told K/J/WA and the Psychiatrist about. But she told them ALL that she'd attacked him so he slapped her. That's the 'only' evidence of violence on his part that we are aware of.

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 20:23

He wasn't eve going for her at the time of the stabbing. I know you can also argue self defence in defence of a child but he wasn't even going to hit Henry or hurt him - he was "just" shouting and ranting.

So afaik, helen was (rightly), at the end of her tether but at the time it happened, she was leaving (so not weak, not a victim), she had cooked dinner for them both (ie was in her normal state of mind), there was a row, her son was there (so she didn't protect him from seeing the row), Rob was shouting at Henry but didnt go for either Henry or Helen physically, and she stabbed him twice or three times.

It doesn't look like a proportionate self defence response to me. Necessarily.

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 20:25

There's no evidence that Rob was going to touch Henry, and in fact has not laid a finger on him so far afaik.

SausagesAndLaughter · 05/04/2016 20:25

Too bloody right.

enochroot · 05/04/2016 20:25

At least it looks like her immediate family will stick by her. Pat's doing a complete about-face.

ColdTeaAgain · 05/04/2016 20:26

I think we need to reserve judgement tbh, there is still a long, long way to go.

Of course it's going to start off looking bad for Helen, the police have found her having just almost killed her husband and she is unharmed apart from those marks.

The SW will want us all to think she's going to be convicted of attempted murder.

BertrandRussell · 05/04/2016 20:27

"Are we forgetting that Rob was going for Henry? Any bloke did that to my child....lioness takes over."

And if he went unarmed to smack your child and you stabbed him 3 -or was it 4?-times with a kitchen knife, you and your lioness would be as guilty as sin.

Vango · 05/04/2016 20:27

But how's she going to make 'going for Henry' sound like he was going to hurt him? She was the one holding the knife? He's just going to say that he was shielding Henry from her!!!!! It's going to be his word against hers and there's NO BLOODY EVIDENCE AGAINST HIM!!!!

BYOSnowman · 05/04/2016 20:27

I think the first stab was her trying to pull him away from Henry and forgetting she had the knife. Could explain the wrist I suppose

The others were when he came at her to try and take the knife. Three seems excessive though

BYOSnowman · 05/04/2016 20:28

Were those marks photographed?

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/04/2016 20:28

It's a shame that they missed the signposting to Clare's law before it came to a head. Wasted opportunity.
