Helen knows she's not cracking up - Knob is an eggomaniac.

Are we eggshausted with this storyline?

Frazzles. In the same league as Bovril crisps. I do hope the Bridge Farm Shop stocks Burts Roast Devonshire Beef flavour alongside those posh biscuits Adam bought. I'm sure Rob would approve of Burts Lobster Firecracker as well, but would be less keen on their Hobgoblin.

recyclingbag · 30/03/2016 09:13

I'm surprised Tom hasn't developed some really posh pork scratchings yet.

BYOSnowman · 30/03/2016 09:46

I'm concerned this is going to end in rob snapping and killing Helen

Whilst it would be true to life and a lesson for most listeners, I don't think it will be helpful for all the Helens out there. I think they need to hear someone getting away. I worry that soc wants the drama though

I don't think a murder sl in itself would be wrong in the archers (although I think would have to be Colombo style where we all know who did it from the start) but I think it would be wrong for this sl

R4 · 30/03/2016 09:54

I'll do you a compromise storyline. Helen calls the WA again, the healthcare professionals get their act together, Pat wakes up and Kirsty helps to get Rob sent down.

Meanwhile .... the awareness that this creates makes the village realise that they haven't seen Alistair since forever so they go investigating and find that Shula has buried him under the patio.

So SOC gets his consciousness-raising and his EE ending.

AnnieNoMouse · 30/03/2016 10:12

I'm concerned this is going to end in rob snapping and killing Helen
Me too, BYOS. I want to see Helen get out of this situation without it resulting in a death. Apparently (I was only half listening) in yesterday's WH SOC alluded to the possibility of murder Sad

Is it only me or does anyone else think feisty is one of those words that only is used to describe women, and usually in a sense that is pejorative (as in she's getting above herself / daring to answer back) - because of course women should always ne nice and never assertive Sad

BYOSnowman · 30/03/2016 10:15

In real life, how many murders are left unsolved for as long as they are on EE?

How do you do a convincing murder on radio? It would be very confusing - like the Tony goring - if they do it in a way they hide who did it

Re Helrob - in quite happy for rob to die but think suicide/accident would be better

If he kills Helen they will be showing the abuser 'winning'. If hel kills rob they will be confirming that there is no escape from da. Neither a good outcome

Hadron21 · 30/03/2016 10:16

Both Helen and Rob have been manipulating Pat so part of me is not surprised she's missed what is actually happening. However, as someone said up thread why isn't she angry with Helen that she let her mil move in while isolating herself from her own mother?
What's the latest on Kate and the yoga farm?

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/03/2016 10:16

I think Rob is going to lose it with Helen big time but in front of someone else - they'll then be a witness when it all goes to court.

I am guessing that in RL - Helen would want to insist upon supervised access visits as Rob is so awful/dangerous.

R4 · 30/03/2016 10:22

So SOC gets his consciousness-raising and his EE ending.

And he gets a compare-and-contrast, too. That would be so SOC.

BYOSnowman · 30/03/2016 10:24

perhaps he will beat her up - she will go into labour and he will panic and keep her at home but Kirsty will turn up and call ambulance/police and There will be lots of witnesses as robwont be able to talk his way out of the bruises

Police will arrest him and he will be barred from hospital

Who would take a heavily pregnant woman who is having abreakdown(as rob claims) to a show in London? How does pat think that makes him a lovely husband by having such crap ideas. Old pat would not have such low standards for a man

My mum loves my dh but she was quite happy to tell him he was a prat for buying his vegetarian wife steak knives for her birthday.

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/03/2016 10:31

How would Rob afford a show or weekend in country house hotel? Surely Pat must wonder that?

redshoeblueshoe · 30/03/2016 10:38

I don't think Knob has even got the bus fare to Borchester. He hasn't had a proper job since August. They should have bought that up on WH

BYOS - steak knives Grin

SliceOfLime · 30/03/2016 10:40

Grin at Shula having buried Alastair under the patio, her feelings for Dr Locke have run away with her and she has to get rid of the inconvenient husband...

Looobieloo · 30/03/2016 10:43

Rob's parents are offering to pay Henry's school fees so maybe Pat thinks they are supporting Rob too. Hmm

MrsKwazii · 30/03/2016 10:49

I listened with dread last night, horrible to hear Rob turning on the charm and using the "I'm not a monster" line to further undermine Helen's belief in her own judgement.

Thought Louisa P came across well on Woman's Hour but that SOC sounded defensive and a bit petulant, especially when Jane Garvey questioned him about Arseula. He could have put the same points across in a more reasonable way, just made me stick two fingers up at the radio instead.

DadDadDad · 30/03/2016 10:51

Annie - if you google each of "feisty girl", "feisty boy", "feisty woman", "feisty man" (with the quotes to get the exact phrase) I think what you say is true. Feisty females seem to be much more common than feisty males (there appears to be someone out there with a username of "Feisty Boy" which accounts for quite a few hits). From the links, I get the impression that it is a quality that it grudgingly admired, with an edge of "men - better watch out for feisty women - they might be a little too hot to handle!!". Not necessarily pejorative, but certainly creating a bit of a stereotype.

Boomingmarvellous · 30/03/2016 10:54

I'm totally weirded out by the logic of not allowing Hellin to sit on a hard chair in the village hall for half an hour but hauling her off to London for hours of sitting?

I don't see at all that the subject of DV is being taken lightly? Most of the contributors are horrified at the escalation and others with personal experience are having some painful memories awakened and even (when knob first shouted at Hellin) horrible flashbacks.

MrsKwazii · 30/03/2016 11:09

No chance of pesky friends or family talking to Helen in London and giving her "ideas". Why noone questions Rob's daft reasoning for why Helen can only lie down in Ambridge though, who knows.

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 30/03/2016 11:15

So....and don't get overexcited as I can make no promises yet
if we were to get an "Archers" emoticon - what would it be...?
Would have to be able to be used across the rest of the board really, in the same way the Biscuit Star Flowers are too
Thoughts..

plimsolls · 30/03/2016 11:16

A bull! And can be used elsewhere to indicate when one is talking nonsense? (Or does that encourage fighting?!)

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 30/03/2016 11:21

Interestingly, before Rob went full-cunt, he referred to Kirsty as 'feisty' in a sense I've often heard it used - 'I am wary of this woman, she seems to have opinions and say them, I'll offer an ostensible compliment here but what I really mean is that she's a bit of a liability and I'm threatened by her.'

We do say 'feisty' sometimes just about the woman who is the least wet-end of any female group in a given situation (Jo March, Anne of Green Gables when young, Katnis Everdene), but I think it's become very much a gendered term with a distinct overlap into the mode Rob employed for Kirsty.

Elendon · 30/03/2016 11:26

Cheese, preferably blue Wink.

AskingForAPal · 30/03/2016 11:28

This is SO TRUE: "We do say 'feisty' sometimes just about the woman who is the least wet-end of any female group in a given situation." Grrrrrr, never thought of it that way.

Emoticon would be very exciting! I'd like The Bull, a tiny pub. MNers would LOVE a pub emoticon, I'm sure.

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/03/2016 11:32

I think a bull emoticon would be superb!

Or possibly a pitchfork.

We need a list of suggestions, votes and a D^3 spreadshit Grin

redshoeblueshoe · 30/03/2016 11:32

In honour of Psuedo - shouldn't it really be a badger Grin
