Helen of course didn't invite abuse.
But the Rob she fell in love with was a homophobic snobbish wanker, and she was all too happy to sign Henry over to him way before the legal stuff. It's not as though he was ever a nice person, and she was quite happy with his treatment of Jess.

I do want him to get his comeuppance, but I'm much more interested in that than any good outcome for Helen, who ialways was utterly foul.

The storyline is in the Observer tomorrow. When is Nancy's next update due?

LowDudgeon · 12/03/2016 22:47

It's due on 16th

but Feb was late...

Having read far too many similar real life threads on here, I think the writing is very convincing. They must have done their research. The charming manipulative, controlling, gaslighting chauvinist who manages to seem like a nice guy to people on the outside, persuading everyone that the woman is mentally unstable. I hope they don't follow what often happens IRL, i.e. she finally gathers the strength to leave, then goes back to him. Sad

Maybe Kirsty and Tom will put bygones aside and intervene.

Imbroglio · 13/03/2016 03:57

I can't imagine pat tony and tom letting rob stay on at the shop when /if they they become aware he is abusing her, even if she 'chooses' to stay with him.

BYOSnowman · 13/03/2016 07:57

The probably with the writing is that I don't think we have seen rob being charming and a good guy to other people.

bigbuttons · 13/03/2016 08:02

Rob must be charming; everyone thinks the sun shines out of his arse ( apart from Kirsty and Tom)

WipsGlitter · 13/03/2016 08:02

I thought the bit where he says he wanted to get back to the woman he saw in the park that day who was basically a fantasy as he didn't know anything about Helen and now can't cope with her being "flawed". Also the line about having her as the mother of his child - she's just s vessel.

I think the victim blaming themself for being hit is fairly common though.

lljkk · 13/03/2016 08:54

There have been episodes where we heard Shula, Lynda & Pat (?& Oliver) all thanking Rob for doing something they thought was very nice of him. I don't listen every day so I probably missed some of Knob's other enchanted fans. But Roy said "Not everybody's cup of tea", so folk must acknowledge that Knob is marmite. Roy can't exactly take a moral high ground.

Whatever happened with Kirsty & Roy thinking the other had sent V-cards, btw?

(hahaha, just thinking Kate Aldridge could be the perfect counter-foil to Knob, she's too woo & self-centred to be easily charmed!!)

When Knob argues with Adam in cricket or with Tom over the business, Knob gives the impression it's because he cares so much about the game/business, so it seems more forgiveable.

I am currently betting matters will end with Knob going to prison. Maybe for a crime against H&H.

Just to let you know that Broasdcasting House on Radio 4 Sunday morning 9-10 have a Shakespearean actress giving the speech they would like Helen to give .

I'm guessing it will be " why didn't I listen to Mumsnet, they always said you were a bastard "

bakeoffcake · 13/03/2016 09:08

I just heard that too Kr1stina.

Where's Paddy though? I like him very much on a Sunday morning.

lljkk · 13/03/2016 09:32

On Broadcasting house now.

ppeatfruit · 13/03/2016 09:40

Thanks Kristina I just heard Fiona Shaw doing "Helen" IT WAS BRILLIANT!!! Exactly what I wanted her to say. All the R4 people were giggling away Grin

makemineasnowball · 13/03/2016 09:44

Are we now in print? Lots of complaints in today's Times 'You Say' section about the HellRob storyline

Fess up - which of you lot was it?? Grin

bakeoffcake · 13/03/2016 09:51

That's what we want to hear!

However I expect the SWs are loving all this publicity and will be prolonging the agony even further.

Stickerrocks · 13/03/2016 09:58

Kate & Rob. Now that would be worth keeping him in the village for.

BYOSnowman · 13/03/2016 10:13

In terms of interactions between rob and others they have invariably been negative.

bakeoffcake · 13/03/2016 10:19

I'm listening to the omnibus. When Jill was speaking to Ruth about Mother's Day, she sounded so like UrsulaHmm

recyclingbag · 13/03/2016 10:29

Rob's interactions have only been negative with people he doesn't care about - and they've always been twisted to Helen.

So, in Helen's eyes, any negativity is always the fault of the other person, or a weakness in the other person, and reinforces her view that Rob is being treated unfairly and she is the only one who really understands him etc.

So Ian, Adam, Kirsty etc are all just wrong.

He sucks up to Oliver, David etc and can manipulate people like Shula and Pat. Even Peggy.

Stickerrocks · 13/03/2016 10:29

How can we work curtains, kitchens, Pining Pip, Eddie's pension party & Josh putting the Fairbrethren in their place into the next title? Perhaps Rob will go away if we ignore him in the title.

recyclingbag · 13/03/2016 10:29

What's interesting is the disinterested bystanders such as Roy also have the measure of him but just think he's a bit of a twat.

SmellySourdough · 13/03/2016 10:30

there was that interview in a paper by rob that the villagers didn't like...

enochroot · 13/03/2016 10:31

Ah, did Ursula say 13 mins in the oven for the toad?

LyndaNotLinda · 13/03/2016 10:58

Can we get the shepherd's hut in? It's curtains all round - for the hut, the village hall and Rob (hopefully!)

I know it would be a cliché but I want him to be killed off. I can't bear to hear him. And Arsula's slimy tones make me shudder

BYOSnowman · 13/03/2016 10:59

But all these people who are allegedly charmed by him have all seen his dark side. But that seems to have been forgotten

Shula even expressed it to Oliver 'what scared me was that he seemed to believe every word he said'
