Yes, all that time ago when she first arrived in Ambridge and he was vile to Jess - it was a shock because he was being so nice to Helen (mostly). The way he spoke to Helen tonight was just how he spoke to Jess after the disastrous party. She packed her things and left the next day, IIRC. Would that Helen would do the same.

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/03/2016 20:28

The danger is that "carers" or partners can be seen as the sane one when they are actually the problem. Sad

GruntledOne · 11/03/2016 20:33

I wondered whether a climax - or with any luck a second climax - would come around 2nd June when Knob is supposed to be lauded as Hero of the Flood. It would be fantastic if he was eagerly awaiting everyone saying how wonderful he is only for everyone to line up to bring out all the skeletons in his cupboard.

kippersyllabub · 11/03/2016 20:43

I don't think I can carry on listening to the archers until 2nd June with this storyline.

bigbuttons · 11/03/2016 20:44

I shouted 'go on Helen' when she stood up to him. I knew the price would be very high. There are times when the way they have written this sl thst have been silly but tonight was spot on. I was listening to my past in a strangely disconnected fashion. Rob's script was so familiar. Very painful to listen to but verg well done. My ex believed everything he said about me for example even though if had been his abuse that had caused the problems. Crazy.

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/03/2016 20:47

Just to say - my psych was in fact v understanding. And there are a lot of tick boxes on the Paris record system (I sent for my notes).

Free of Ex for 4 years (thanks, MN!) and surprise surprise, MH improved beyond recognition - depression lifted the moment I issued divorce papers. :)

Seems like I won't be listening for a fair while, though.

enochroot · 11/03/2016 20:49

It really is going to go on for years and years, isn't it?
Until now I've been waiting for a moment when she stands up to him or someone rides to the rescue but now I think it isn't going to happen.

Marchate · 11/03/2016 20:49

Crying. They can always turn on the tears

ColdTeaAgain · 11/03/2016 21:10

It's building, I see an end to this

Knob mentioned something about taking Ursula and Henry to something for Easter, couldn't hear exactly what. I think Helen will be locked in while they're out. Something bad will happen. Possibly go into labour?

Butteredparsnips · 11/03/2016 21:15

Wow. What a shit. He has really shown who he is. Absolutely priceless making it her fault, but sadly, all very realistic for too many Helens.

I agree this is the beginning of the end though. But who's end? weak joke about off to Enders

Imbroglio · 11/03/2016 21:16

Knob wanted to take them to Lynda's pageant?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/03/2016 21:21

Yes, but surprise surprise it will be too much for Helen. Sitting on a wooden chair for a long time is beyond her.

Butteredparsnips · 11/03/2016 21:25

Also wanted to say my favourite ever fake thread was the one in baby names, before Leone settled on Mungo. Someone came along really quickly with "sniff"

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/03/2016 21:31

This one?

LowDudgeon · 11/03/2016 21:39

"For some months now, listeners have heard Helen and Rob's relationship develop into an abusive one"

Some months?

Fuck off, eh, SOC? Angry

Butteredparsnips · 11/03/2016 21:46

Yes Gasp. Thanks for the link. Grin

EBearhug · 11/03/2016 21:54

Have you seen this link? Today's Grauniad.

Imbroglio · 11/03/2016 21:55

I think that this storyline is so important. For all those people who don't understand why women don't 'just leave', who think it can't be 'that bad' if women choose to stay.

If just one neighbour, mother, friend, daughter, sibling, colleague, realises that they could well be playing a 'Kirsty' a 'Tom' a 'Pat' a 'Fallon' or a 'Jenny' etc to someone in their life.... Any one of us could be that bystander, who now understands that 'I'm fine' doesn't mean all's well.

Gruach · 11/03/2016 22:02

Dunno how you managed to recall all that Gasp0 - I find when Rob and Helen are on I stop listening to all the other stories.

So, did I hear right? He told Lynda that Helen had declined to be in the whatchamacallit shindig - but at that point Helen didn't even know about the event.

And he asked Lynda the date. Not quite sure if he told Helen the correct one. Then having refused for Helen he spitefully said he'd take his nasty mother and poor Henry.

Whoever said it's difficult to get someone sectioned - yes, so one would think. But then sensible people also don't suggest boarding school for five year olds - so I'm not sure the SWs can be relied upon to play by the rules.

But she'd have to see a doctor first anyway. And Rob won't want a local practice - so she'll probably end up with Doc Locke.Grin

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/03/2016 22:07

I think that line in Gruniard is excellent "It's an attack on your personality"

weebarra · 11/03/2016 22:11

I don't get the time to listen to TA very often but was at the gym today and did. I'm finding it very hard to listen to tbh. I was listening to my podcasts so it was the part about the toad in the hole, so horrible.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/03/2016 22:11

Interesting silvery. I am too scared to ask for my notes to see if it was ticked but my last psychiatrist said some fairly harsh things about my ex.

Boomingmarvellous · 11/03/2016 22:25

And then will come the minimising of course.

Knob only slapped Hellin because she was hysterical, or better still 'I only pushed you off me, I didn't hit you'

Been there....my ex shitface only 'knocked a cup of tea out of my hand' rather than watch me make a fresh cup and then hit my arm so hard the tea went up my arm, over the kitchen and on the ceiling!

I really need to stop listening soon as its making me so angry for the women still trapped like I was. Sad

PerspicaciaTick · 11/03/2016 22:28

It doesn't really matter though, does it? What a psychiatrist would actually think about Helen's mental health. All Rob needs to do is convince Helen that she must keep in line, or risk being separated from Henry. She must have frightening memories of her previous mental health problems. If she believes that doing everything Rob wants will protect her and Henry, then she will do it - no matter how misguided that belief might be.

LowDudgeon · 11/03/2016 22:30

But she knows Henry is being steered away from her. If she can just hang on to that thought...?
