Not long until our thread's 3 year birthday!

Oh. Look how this thread has opened up a whole new world of skills that I have never given one moment's thought to until now.

The economics of ed's course are far more interesting than the helrob so

BYOSnowman · 02/03/2016 09:44

Taking the time is fine - but if he doesn't do it then tbqf he deserves all the monetary misfortune that comes his way

But ed/emma financial crises are getting a little too cliched now so I am hoping this is the road to their future prosperity!

Neither ed or will are going to fill the void of wheeler dealer Eddie so I hope they don't try and squeeze ed into a Grundy mould

Gruach · 02/03/2016 09:57

God no - there's nothing of Eddie in him, except perhaps kindness. Ed is essentially law abiding (though confused by his own poor education and lack of self esteem) whereas his dad rather likes a bit of entertaining trouble. In fact Eddie must look at his sons and wonder where they came from.

I guess the older Grundys retain a sense of penniless aristocracy-in-land that Will and Ed simply never had time to acquire.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/03/2016 11:53

Both Ed and Will have turned out to be Larkins, not Grundys.

Gruach · 02/03/2016 12:01

That would be it. I'm not sure I ever consciously heard any Larkin menfolk. Clarrie likes to doff a cap if she can ...

Joskar · 02/03/2016 13:07

I want good, good, good things for Ed. He tries so hard. He deserves it and so does Em. No more ashes on them, please.

Poor, gullible Johnny. Glad Tom is going to make sure he gets paid. Good to hear Jazzer being a sane voice too.

MrsArthurShappey · 02/03/2016 13:20

Ed is proud to a fault though isn't he? I think that's where his hesitance is rooted. He doesn't like to be seen as a charity case. He's right to worry about further debt but this is a very low risk loan for him or Adam isn't it? Emma will talk him into it.

MrsArthurShappey · 02/03/2016 13:21

That's another thing, where has Emma been while all the HelRob drama is going on? I know she's busy at the cafe and all that but I can't believe she hasn't called round or tried to set up a playdate for Henry and Keira.

Toomuchtea · 02/03/2016 13:28

At the very least, she could have popped into the shop and asked Rob how Helen is - or Pat. Or someone.

recyclingbag · 02/03/2016 14:10

Wasn't Kiera one of the girls Helen said Henry was having trouble with?

I suspect Rob will try to use that against her if she ever does suggest meeting up.

Imbroglio · 02/03/2016 14:42

Emma, George ad Kiera are off Robs 'suitable persons' list. Early casualties.

EBearhug · 02/03/2016 16:05

a whole newworldof skills that I have never given one moment's thought to until now.

Getting your tank mixes wrong can be an expensive mistake and cause a lot of sweariness, going by the reaction when my father once had to deal with a tank of jelly...

Gruach · 02/03/2016 16:19

Ouch! Like diesel and petrol?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 02/03/2016 16:44

I thought she said 'Cara', recycling. I suspect if she'd said 'keira', she'd have said 'Grundy', or Rob would, in an 'oh WELL then' kind of way....

ppeatfruit · 02/03/2016 16:45

Ed is 'sort of' straight It's odd he didn't ask Oliver about having the cattle, he would've done IMO. The SW's are changing the characters again Hmm.

Minimammoth · 02/03/2016 16:57

I wonder about Eds insurance status.

JessieMcJessie · 02/03/2016 17:04

One of the troublesome kids at school was called Xanthe. I chuckled at that. Thought the other one was a boy.

EBearhug · 02/03/2016 17:08

I heard Cara, too.

Gruach · 02/03/2016 17:09

Oh yes - there was a slightly incongruous name mentioned. No doubt her parents live within the executive estate, forgotten its name.

Wouldn't Keira be too young to encounter Henry at school?

JessieMcJessie · 02/03/2016 17:15

Yep, just checked the podcast, the other name-caller was indeed Cara.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/03/2016 17:15

I thought Henry and Keira were the same age, hence the friendship. Yes, Henry born in Jan 2011, Kiera in April of that year, so she is almost certainly now in the Reception class too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/03/2016 17:16

Keira. That's the BBC spelling, so it must be true. Grin

Gruach · 02/03/2016 17:18

Oh - my mistake. In my head Keira is still a toddler!

PseudoBadger · 02/03/2016 17:28

Minimammoth - I wonder about Ed's employment status. Adam clearly views him as a contractor but I think under the employment status test www.rossmartin.co.uk/employers/essential-know-how/171-employment-status he comes out as an employee (as so many people do when it's pointed out to them!). So I think he'd reasonably be able to ask Adam to pay for his courses outright, perhaps subject to continued service Wink
