Oooh, I like that theory mummytime. Or perhaps Jess lost a pregnancy which is why he is so 'overprotective' of Helen.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2016 08:21

Between William Smethurst and VW there was Liz Rigby for a few years and then Ruth Patterson (very briefly). I think it was that way round. RP was in my year at school, which is why I remember this! I wrote her a letter of congratulation when I heard she had been appointed.

Well, well. A new era (again). How short eras are these days! Grin

Gruach · 18/02/2016 08:27

Hey R4 - they cheated us of the news yesterday.

Anyway I'm prophesying a straight swap - Woo Hoo to TA. Moffat to Ambridge, SOC to Dr Who (he doesn't have to go to EE ...)

Will be fabGrin.

R4 · 18/02/2016 08:33

Yes, Gruach we need a fan (of at least thirty years' standing) to run it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2016 08:36

I know nothing about radio production, but I'd have a go! How hard can it be? Grin

Toomuchtea · 18/02/2016 08:38

That would be a help. And YY to character-led drama. The episode split between Brian et al and the Grundys was great. More of that please.

@BBCTheArchers Rob Titchener has taken over this role describing Sean as "too fragile" to continue #thearchers

Gruach · 18/02/2016 08:38

Shall we put in a whole thread application? They'd be very lucky to get us.

Gruach · 18/02/2016 08:39
Shock
enochroot · 18/02/2016 08:52

That explains a great deal lately. Good news indeed.

Imbroglio · 18/02/2016 08:57

Gaspode Grin

DadDadDad · 18/02/2016 08:59

Maybe they'll promote Keri "Spare Room" Davies to editor? Would that be good?

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/02/2016 09:02

Keri who thought we should conduct ourselves on the old BBC messageboard as if "we were at a dinner party"?

Keri who railed at piss-taking posters for "traducing the programme he loves"?

Hmmm...

Let me think about that

Dumdedumdedum · 18/02/2016 09:04

D3 - as he's clearly got no grasp whatsoever on the reality of life in Ambridge, that'll be a big thumbs down from me Grin (I started to mistrust his memory during the moving to Northumberland and selling the farm debacle.)

Dumdedumdedum · 18/02/2016 09:06

BoreofWhabylon Grin Grin

DadDadDad · 18/02/2016 09:07

Yes, I guess I was picking up on the out of the frying pan comment above: get rid of SOC, get KD instead.

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/02/2016 09:09

I have a long memory Dumdedum [wunk]

He used to always hang out on the music thread with the 'cool' posters, playing obscure tracks to each other and just pop out periodically to shout at the hoi polloi

Eastpoint · 18/02/2016 09:11

If they have a less high profile producer maybe they'll be able to reemploy an archivist? Or at least a fact checker. How can creating a 12 mins episode of a radio drama justify a high profile TV soap producer's salary? I wonder how many hours work each episode takes to write & plot? .

Lancelottie · 18/02/2016 09:32

Well, Eastpoint, shall we see how long it takes the MN hive mind to write one? Or is that cheating?

ppeatfruit · 18/02/2016 09:33

Eastpoint SOC is the editor of TA I'm not sure why he should have so much power. DD1 used to edit Hollyoaks and likened it to 'Polishing a turd' Grin.

Maybe the definition is different on the radio who knows. Grin

BYOSnowman · 18/02/2016 09:48

If rob had lost a baby with Jess it would have been mentioned by ursula by now

We don't want a new editor who thinks they are bigger than the show. An unknown would be nice

DSClarke · 18/02/2016 09:52

Does this mean that I can go back to listening every day? I cannot abide listening to Rib torturing Helen. I do not find it entertaining.

DSClarke · 18/02/2016 09:54

Ps I am very happy about this news.

JeanPadget · 18/02/2016 09:57

Briefcasing marvellous news Grin

Gruach · 18/02/2016 09:59

It all seems rather precipitate. Staying till late Spring is the equivalent of a moonlight flit surely? Wouldn't the normal thing be an announcement that someone new would be taking over at the start of next year?
