Come on Kirsty!

I think that what is particularly frustrating about the KnobHell storyline is the fact that he gets away with and is rewarded by his behaviour time after time. Jess's baby turns out not to be his; he rapes Helen in order to impregnate her and she falls pregnant immediately; he refuses to contemplate anything other than a male baby, and he gets one; he does ludicrous things like decreeing that Helen can't drive, and everyone falls into line and says how wonderful he is. It's rare that his plots don't succeed. There was the failure of his attempt to break up Ian and Adam, but even then he's been able to plant the seed of trouble ahead; and a couple of times he hasn't fully got his way against Tony and Tom, but those were pretty minor. Even being booted from Berrow has ultimately left him free to control Helen and try to take over at Bridge Farm.

Please, scriptwriters, even if you don't want to have the big dénouement yet, can't we at least have a few occasions when the dice don't fall in Knob's favour and he falls publicly flat on his face?

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/02/2016 16:27

I think the scales will start to fall from Hellin's eyes whenever she realises that the finances have gone up the Swanee.

Or perhaps Tony will reappear and ask what the hell is going on.

BYOSnowman · 04/02/2016 16:31

Well he was a tosspot at the cricket but sw seem to deal with that by selective amnesia

Wrt charity shop - mine are almost expensive as buying new! And you can get some nice stuff but finding maternity wear can't have been that easy

squeaver · 04/02/2016 16:38

Surely to goodness Pat, Tony or Tom will question the job-share arrangement?
Or - if he palms them off with the taking Henry out of school story - surely Fallon will say something?

BYOSnowman · 04/02/2016 16:39

It's a load of old balls if they dont

R4 · 04/02/2016 17:13

And pshaw! to the Birdbotherers and their eggy adventures.

I can't believe that they haven't traded on Rex's past history: "I was a pro athlete and understand nutrition, doncha know. I endorse these eggs."

spiker · 04/02/2016 17:54

Knob in the delivery room....shudder. Mind you when I was in labour with DS1 there was a moment when I deferred to DH saying I didn't want pethidine - "what he said" - the midwife was on it like a shot. I was just mid-contraction and could barely talk, I'd given the barest of head shakes to DH and he was just translating for me. I was dead impressed with how the (very overstretched) MW swung round and went straight into protect-mode. She was super-attuned and had obviously had to deal with Knobs before. But then that was Reality and TA isn't.

spiker · 04/02/2016 17:56

Eggs Scmeggs I say. More curtain talk please.

Dumdedumdedum · 04/02/2016 18:01

Yep, BYOSnowman, selective amnesia (aka no continuity history any more) has been affecting the Archers for far too long. I have long disliked Hellbent (since well before John went to meet the Great Tractor in the Sky), but nobody, even her, deserves Rob. Though she really is a nasty piece of work, I don't actually have any sympathy for her, but Rob is so supervile I can't listen. AIBU?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 04/02/2016 18:01

Well the obvious next step to them 'job-sharing' at the same time would be that it stops being a job share, it's just his job. Especially as he's already having all the wages.

But that leaves the problem of an unattended Helen all day - how will he get round that? It's surely not as though he can ask to 'work from home' when it's a shop, is it?

I'm sure that's what will happen, but can't work out how he'll manage the problem of leaving her alone! Oh oh oh - URSULA! She could come and stay to 'help' Helen in the difficult last months of pregnancy. Line up all the tins in the cupboard so they face forward, and so on.

enochroot · 04/02/2016 18:04

I was wondering if Ursula would be turning up again.
It would be ironic if she's the one who rescues Helen!

NotdeadyetBOING · 04/02/2016 18:07

I want Jess to come back and REVEAL ALL. She seemed perfectly normal initially - was clearly driven insane by the Knobster. Would be great if she could reappear and share her experience with Hels and encourage her to BREAK FREE.

Dumdedumdedum · 04/02/2016 18:49

Agreed, NdyBOING - I think Jess is quite normal (and I don't care what Keri says, what does he know, Ethan is definitely Rob's child!).

sunnydayinmay · 04/02/2016 19:04

I bet they don't even mention Knob this evening

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/02/2016 19:06

This is wonderful. Vintage Brian and Kate.

Thanks for the new thread, Pseudo!

GypsyFl0ss · 04/02/2016 19:14

This sounds like Keri written Brian and Kate...

sunnydayinmay · 04/02/2016 19:16

Ha Ha, nicely done Lillian.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/02/2016 19:16

Poor, poor Brian! Grin

Seriouslyffs · 04/02/2016 19:17

Great episode, a little farming, no DV, spoilt Kate, poor Brian and Lillian's laugh!
Grin

Gruach · 04/02/2016 19:20

Oh that was excellent!

I've recently complained about the TV War and Peace being too bland because the English can't shout or rant with conviction. Brian has just proved me wrong.

And what a lovely way for him to find out about Lillian. Grin

bakeoffcake · 04/02/2016 19:21

Everytime the scene changes, I'm all tense waiting to hear if it's Knob. I can breathe out again when it isn't!

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/02/2016 19:24

BOOP BOOP! Star Star

Great episode. I love Brine and he was really on form.

How long before Lil is shacked up with Justin then? Place your bets and am sure DDD will work out the odds.

I'm giving it six weeks (can't afford to hang around too long at their age)

Gruach · 04/02/2016 19:29

Yes, deserves a BOOP.

But more ominous mentions of Lil's bad habit. Worried now. Would Justin (married Justin) look after her or will her family rally round if needed?

JessTitchener · 04/02/2016 19:31

Whilst I would love to return to Ambridge (possibly driving a tank) to rescue Hellin I am far too busy researching plastic surgeons to correct my child's cloven feet and forehead horns.
Satan's genes are more than capable of overcoming a DNA test you know.

Toomuchtea · 04/02/2016 19:31

Bore - yes, it won't be long. Miranda will announce she can't possibly leave the London house and that will be that.

Gruach, as for ranting I could introduce you to several fine, upstanding British relatives of mine who can rant for Europe, and if on form, the world.
