Come on Kirsty!

OP posts:
BYOSnowman · 13/02/2016 09:50

I've decided to stop listening and just follow on here and lowfield. I can't bear the Helrob sl anymore - it's getting to the point where it isn't adding anything to people's understanding and is just there to ratchet up the drama imo

A bit like Brookside - the dv sl was very good but then it was all overshadowed by the husbands murder and protracted 'will anyone find the body' sl. The outcome of the Helrob sl needs to be lacking in sensational drama iyswim. Helen goes to police with support of Kirsty. Maybe takes him back again but everyone else realises and support her to go back to police and press charges and he's jailed.

Sorry gruach for not putting your name against the 4 pillars post. I was most amused by about to breach the terms of their tenancy. Very slack of me to quote the quote without poster name.

I also like nobody like a noisy boy especially when The Archers is on! Wink

But previous posters have said TA should be in the title so if the thread slips of TIO they can find it...or avoid it if TA is not their bag (who are these people?)

And the HelRob thing although it is a mine of good quotes is taking over both the program and the thread.

Boomingmarvellous · 13/02/2016 10:04

TA is a drama program last time I looked on BBC I player! The helrob sl isn't over the top and is pretty true to life so I can't see a problem.

Greengager · 13/02/2016 10:26

I know it's awful but if Helen sees rob treat H badly she might find her inner mama bear. Was thinking of my MIL the other day who had an scummy bordering on abusive stepfather who was very controlling with her mother. She does tell a story though if the day he beat up one of her six brothers. Her mum went ballistic and said she would walk out if he put one finger on any of her kids ever again. He never did (according toMIL) although her mum did stay with him. Sad

BYOSnowman · 13/02/2016 10:31

Rob getting landed by an iron will ruin the sl. An abused woman listening needs to understand that murder isn't the only way out. I would just like the sl to be more realistic in that respect and not go down the tv soap road.

It's also dominating too much and I'm sick of it tbh. Getting to the point where even the unbearable pip is preferable to more knobbishness.

I used to listen to the archers to give me a distraction and downtime from my anxiety but now I find it just adds to it!!

spiker · 13/02/2016 10:32

So many good thread titles - very impressed. Pseudo's Noisy Boy is my favourite.

I really like the House one too. Dragging it out of long term memory but I think that Bleak House wasn't bleak at all in the novel - quite a welcoming refuge as I remember, jolly at times. Bleakness all around it, maybe that was the point. [scuttles back to pedants' corner]

ColdTeaAgain · 13/02/2016 10:35

Rob is very calculated though, he is careful to always do things out of sight and the way in which he says things to Henry, though chilling to hear, are such that if repeated by a 5 year old, it probably wouldn't stir up much reaction.

Surely if he keeps Pat away all half term it will get her riled? I am really sick of Patbot!

R4 · 13/02/2016 10:37

TA is a drama program

Did you really just say that!? ShockShock
TA is eavesdropping on real people doing real everyday things. If it's going to be soapy nonsense like EE then I give up now.

EsmesBees · 13/02/2016 10:39

What I find strange is that Pat and Tony haven't noticed a change in Henry. If this was real life, you'd think living in that sort of environment would manifest in his behaviour. And they've always been portrayed as engaged, hands on grandparents.

spiker · 13/02/2016 10:45

Has Henry changed yet though? Although it won't be long before he goes quiet and withdrawn.

Don't think SWs would be allowed to go down a physical abuse SL for a child. Maybe Knob will have one of his sudden temper snaps and hit out at him just once, and that will drive this SL forward with Hellin's 'inner mama bear' coming out, as Greengager said.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 13/02/2016 10:49

I really hope that once knob starts on Henry Helen will wake up.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 13/02/2016 10:58

Ugh I just heard yesterday's ep. Rob is chilling.

Who's there?

DadDadDad · 13/02/2016 11:08

Sorry about that, the door out of my Statistics Module got jammed.

Eastpoint - you're stalkerish enough to remember I previously gave up MN for Lent, but not to notice I've been posting in the last 24 hours. Grin

Anyway, back to the question, , yes I had noticed the rapidity with which this thread has proceeded pushing the rate to over 100 posts per day, well above a typical 60 posts per day. A more detailed commentary will be forthcoming once this thread has completed. Now, where are my glasses?

Gruach · 13/02/2016 11:18

There's no need for physical abuse. "Obedient boy" may just become a secret between Rob and Henry - no hugging or kissing his mother, no tickling or joking or even sharing his day with her. So pretty soon Henry will have drawn away from Helen completely.

I wonder what the SWs have decided. Because Rob only needs either Helen or Henry, not both. If he keeps Henry on side he can dump Helen once his own child is born, convince everyone she can't look after any child and work towards his prize that way. Or, having alienated Henry from Helen he could banish him to Bridge Farm once his own child appears, and just use Helen as a means to secure total control of BF and Peggy's money.

Boomingmarvellous · 13/02/2016 12:03

Of course it's a drama! Lord of the manor falls off roof and dies, kathy gets raped, thingy with the shop ends up in prison for shielding wayward brother, Charlie nearly drowning come back Charlie gay weddings, village floods etc.

It all started with a woman dying in a barn fire.

You would die of boredom R4 if you had to listen to real daily life, but are welcome to listen in on my day..... Clean oven....shop.... Feed birds....watch neighbours who are as boring as us..... Yawn Grin

WipsGlitter · 13/02/2016 12:06

I think he's trying to ensure his mum sees his "perfect" new life and he finally becomes the golden boy in her eyes. I think Helen will - at some point - flee home and there will be protracted custody battles both for the baby and Henry.

Cue more angst for Helen in how did she fall for such a bounder.

Boomingmarvellous · 13/02/2016 12:07

I agree R would like to alienate H from Hellin because that would mean all her attention would be focused on his baby. He will probably try to pack Henry off to boarding school, funded by Peggy of course.

Ursula is going to become an unwitting jailer to Hellin. She seemed quite nice but will end up snitching of H if she has visitors or goes out. If she goes out her warder will be with her.

redshoeblueshoe · 13/02/2016 12:12

I'm still laughing at minimammouth Will anyone think of the yogurt ? Grin

GruntledOne · 13/02/2016 12:25

I think they have to ratchet up the tension in the RobHel storyline, because that sort of mirrors real life - emotional abusers need more and more in order to get satisfaction. And the introduction of the pregnancy introduces all sorts of tensions: there's "Good, now she's even more vulnerable and under my control" and "See what a Man I am, I've managed to impregnate her with My Son" warring with the fact that he can't really control what will happen with the pregnancy and the danger that it will take the victim's attention off him.

SuffolkNWhat · 13/02/2016 13:30

Did Knob go to private school? There seems to be a big thing with those types with sending their proven to the old Alma Mater, I bet that's where Henwee ends up, out of sight/mind.

SuffolkNWhat · 13/02/2016 13:31

Progeny* not proven

BYOSnowman · 13/02/2016 13:35

'Those types'?

I'm starting to not care about Helen tbh. I'd just like to not hear anything from the bridge farm archers for a while and hear more from the carters, Aldridge, grundy's, Brookfield archers, the bull, tuckers, snells etc - you know - all the other people who live in the village!!
