seek, I believe there's a scriptwriting job going in a little-known county called Borsetshire - it'll be yours if you apply, I'm sure Grin

BYOSnowman · 07/01/2016 14:50

I would pay good money to hear Jenny read that out!

AdventuresOfADentist · 07/01/2016 14:55

Loved that seek. Sharing naked pics/sexting etc seems a lot more likely than 3 young men all supposedly enamoured with Pip. She may be attractive but she spends 90% of her time in outdoor gear and wellies and covered in mud so why are they flocking to her? I hated the way Shula referred to Matthew and the Fairbrethren as potential suitors for Pip the other week. It sounded like we were in a Jane Austen novel.

Butteredparsnips · 07/01/2016 14:58

As songbirdsays its all storyline over characters. There are so many people Helen would have spoken to. Someone as self-obsessed as her would probably have been sharing exactly how wonderful knob was being, to the extent that people would have a) become very cynical and b) noticed she had changed more recently.

Having said that I do find myself thinking "will this be it everytime Knob opens his mouth. But they are going to drag it out, aren't they?

trevortrevorslatterfry · 07/01/2016 15:04

songbird I didn't Smile

Dumdedumdedum · 07/01/2016 15:57

Nor me songbird, but went through it with friends a long, long, time ago.

songbird · 07/01/2016 16:08

Oh goodo, was starting to feel inferior for a minute there Grin

Toomuchtea · 07/01/2016 16:10

Songbird, I didn't. I did get an offer of 2 Es (not from Cambridge - RG). This was in the days of yore when you had an interview, and if the professor liked you they could offer whatever they thought would get you in. I did a blinder of an interview at that university, but at the next one the professor and I loathed each other on sight, and he was extremely snippy about my 2 E offer. We spent the rest of the interview with him asking the standard questions, and me giving the standard answers, and glaring at each other.

BYOSnowman · 07/01/2016 16:15

I didn't - and spent all my first job interviews explaining that no, I hadn't been rejected by Oxbridge, I had decided not to apply as the course I wanted to do was far better at the uni I did go to. This seemed incomprehensible to some.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/01/2016 16:27

I assumed that Ian was so angry with Hellin because of the " shoot the messenger" effect.

enochroot · 07/01/2016 16:36

I know what is meant by real time in the programme and it's one of the things I like about TA. What I am querying is the meaning of his assertion that the Rob/Helen story is going to played out in real time.
He seems to be implying that there is a defined timescale for DV which is dictating his story when in fact I think he's merely eking it out as long as he can for its publicity value and therefore distorting characters' behaviour beyond credibility.

VitaSackvileVest · 07/01/2016 16:48

Gasp0de

Yes, I did forget Lucy Perks, that bright drop out - and Pip the wunderfarmer (forgive me if i am wrong, but wasn't she up north studying for 2 years after 2 years at college post GCSEs - and yet would be capable of saving the day at Brookfield, bailing out the Fairbrethren and running a beef side-line at Home farm and maybe even managing Berrow Farm in its last gasp dairy days).

VitaSackvileVest · 07/01/2016 16:54

...all at the same time

JessieMcJessie · 07/01/2016 16:54

I thought Pip did what used to be called a "Sandwich Course" - a couple of years at Felpersham, a year on a sheep [?] farm in Yorkshire and then back to Felperhsam for finals?

PseudoBadger · 07/01/2016 17:05

Dare I say that I don't think we will hear from Jenny and Phoebe tonight. Going by past 'big news' occasions we will either hear Clarrie say to Susan "so little Phoebe Tucker is off to Oxford, ent that something?" OR it'll never be mentioned again until a scene in September when Brian takes Phoebe up to the college in the car....Grin

If he means he is going to play it out in realistic time then it should probably go on much longer.

I think friends, family and MN threads often think that as soon as someone has an inkling they will leave. Apparently the average number of times someone leaves before making it final is 7. It is a long slow awakening.

So tbh I'b be a bit pissed off if it ended too soon as it might give people an unrealistic expectation of what the victims of DV should do.

Although that said I don't expect it to be front and centre all the time with everything else fading into the background.

BYOSnowman · 07/01/2016 17:11

But given the 'will they won't they, oh they won't' sl we keep getting I am assuming she is stuck in ambridge for good now

All a bit hotel California

VitaSackvileVest · 07/01/2016 17:45

Simon Pemberton abused Debbie and Smugula, and Cameron Frazer was horrible to Elizabeth and conned Caroline and Majorie Antrobus out of their savings. I seem to remember that those storylines did not go on for a long time.

I find it very upsetting to listen to Rob and the way he speaks to Helen. I actually read the latest thread before I decide whether to listen to the podcast, I don't listen "in real time" anymore - I missed a fair few until Scruff came home and there was a BOOP point. Will the abuse escalate when the baby is born? Will Helen have really dreadful PND? Will Rob bankrupt Bridge Farm? I won't be listening then, that's for sure. Sad

Toomuchtea · 07/01/2016 18:06

BOOP, I thought Ian was so angry because of shooting the messenger too. I also think that Ian has not raised the subject with Adam at all, and so all his suppressed fury and everything else are being directed at Helen.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/01/2016 18:17

I assumed the same toomuch. I don't think Ian has spoken to Adam about it. But it'll come out at some point.

TopOfTheCliff · 07/01/2016 18:54

I think Phoebe has been offered a place at Oxford. Just a hunch!
My DD read PPE there a few years back and as she was abroad I had to open the offer letter. If you were rejected it was a slim envelope, if you were accepted it was a fat one with lots of information included. I was so excited! I can quite understand JD being such a pain. I had to button my lip severely.

I was a Cambridge reject. I never quite got over it but have had 2 DC at Oxford and wouldn't change a thing about my life!

TopOfTheCliff · 07/01/2016 19:03

Ooh she's in! Conditional offer...

Shallishanti · 07/01/2016 19:04

yes the thin/fat letter is in the history boys isn't it?

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 07/01/2016 19:08
