I've been asking for sometime when why Hellen doesn't talk to Adam - all the time she couldn't contact Ian by phone in fact. Also I thought she mentioned to Ursula about asking both Ian and Adam to be Godparents. I know it wasn't played out on air, but are we really supposed to believe Ian said nothing to Adam about what Knob told him in the pub? I just find that totally unbelievable. Both Adam and Ian know what a nasty piece of work Knob is since the dinner party - I thought that was how Adam would have reassured Ian "It was nothing, I asked Helen not to say anything - it's my fault she didn't. You know what a nasty piece of work Knob is - I can't believe he waited until now etc etc." Ian is still entitled to be angry, but I think Helen should have been put more clearly in the picture. Adam would do this even if Ian won't. SPEAK TO ADAM!!!!!!!(shouts ar radio like a mad woman).

GruntledOne · 07/01/2016 12:23

It comes back to that eternal mystery about why the hell none of them ever speaks to each other. There are so many pieces of evidence about Knob around, it would only take, say, Pat, Adam and Shula to get together and start comparing notes (without Shula's convenient memory blank about the hunt sab incident) for the bricks to start to topple.

VitaSackvileVest · 07/01/2016 12:23

Muddha I will follow you if they do that.

I listened to...
Debbie chucking her degree just weeks before finals
Smugula chucking her (estate) agency career after getting her qualifications
Emma with her catering qualifications earning money scratching around
Alice who could have gone into the RAF after graduating
Little mention of Amy and her career
Brenda working as an Amside dogsbody with her experience and degree - before escaping Abridge
Fallon doing bar work, after her music studies

Why do they have such low expectations of the women??

CuttedUpPear · 07/01/2016 12:52

Yes it's bloody infuriating isn't it Vita ?

Putthetulipsthere · 07/01/2016 12:59

i simply can't believe Ian would reject Helen so throughly like that. He knows what Knob is like with Hellin, or at least he seemed to a while ago. It's as if Knob has turned the entire village into zombies who see no wrong in him ( and who never talk to each other). 😁

Putthetulipsthere · 07/01/2016 13:01

Muddha, I may follow you too!

JessieMcJessie · 07/01/2016 13:13

I know Alice was turned down for RAF sponsorship. Could she have applied again after graduating then?

songbird · 07/01/2016 13:34

Did everyone on this thread except me go to Oxford or Cambridge?!?! I'm a Trinity College Carmarthen girl meself.

songbird · 07/01/2016 13:38

Storyline over character yet again!

I don't think Ian has told Adam he knows. And with regard to Hellin badgering Ian rather than Adam, either the SW fucked up again, or it was because she'd had her orders from Rob to talk to Ian. He really is an odious turd isn't he?

VitaSackvileVest · 07/01/2016 13:51

Well, I went to Wadham, yes Wadham Community School!

I would imagine that Alice could have applied again after graduating with her masters in aeronautical engineering. I'm surprised the scriptwriters don't have her learning to fly, or doing gliding, or even joining a reserve unit.

enochroot · 07/01/2016 13:57

It would be relatively simple to sort out by talking to Adam but SOC hasn't decided yet what to do! He's milking the SL for all it's worth right now but it's really starting to creak.

What does he mean by saying the SL is going to be played out in 'real time'? What the hell is real time? It could be days, weeks or years.

DadDadDad · 07/01/2016 13:58

Really, songbird, I had you down as a Newnham girl. WinkGrin

Putthetulipsthere · 07/01/2016 14:00

Not everyone Songbird, I went to St David's University College, Lampeter.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/01/2016 14:02

All 'in real time' really means logically is that we're not going to turn on on Friday and have characters referring to the three months that have passed since we listened on Thursday really, doesn't it?

I think by 'in real time' he means, 'over quite a long time' Hmm

elpth · 07/01/2016 14:03

Yes with regards to other characters discussing Knob and what a knob he is, the other thing that really pissed me off about the horse incident (apart from it being ridiculous as you've all correctly pointed out), was that that's the only time I remember someone having an interaction with Knob and then discussing it with others. The one time he publicly does something "good" (as hugely unlikely as that is and as badly set up as this was. Shula not managing, harness, cheek strap causing skittishness etc etc), she tells everyone in the shop. All the bad, rude and abusive things Knob has done publicly, people seem to have forgotten far less discussed! I would have thought it more common for people to gossip about negative behaviour than positive behaviour? So. Incredibly. Frustrating.

BYOSnowman · 07/01/2016 14:11

Isn't the whole point of a good gossip to pick on all the negatives?

Shula has seen him be a nob twice too!

elpth · 07/01/2016 14:13

Exactly! So why would the only time she gossiped about him be this time?! Gah.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/01/2016 14:16

Listening again, Jenny's melodramatic voice would not have been out of place if it turned out the letter said 'ha ha lol, I am not Oxford I am Alex and I drove to Oxford to post this for the postmark lol. UR a slut and I have put pics of you on Twitter in the nude. Enjoy, biatch'.

tickory2 · 07/01/2016 14:19

It thoroughly annoys me that we heard nothing of Fallon and Emmur's first day in the cafe, nor much since. They have been silently knocking up their lemon drizzles to imaginary customers and we don't know what they think of Knob's kitchen designs.

Just listened again - sorry but wish Feebs didn't come across as so wet and ineffectual.

ppeatfruit · 07/01/2016 14:23

Yes enoch 'real time' excluding Saturday Grin we all know that SOC likes to be considered a god but even he can't remove a day from the week. As much as he might want to.

songbird · 07/01/2016 14:33

Putthetulipsthere

We'll fly the Dyfed flag then, and leave them to their 'Oxbridge' Wink

DDD

Well! [simper simper giggle giggle]

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/01/2016 14:37

Vita, you forgot the one that made me spit tacks - Lucy Perks, always portrayed as a bright if occasionally wayward girl, passed the 11+, went to university. She wasn't speaking by then so they could have done anything they wanted with the character. Suddenly, for no reason at all that I could see, Sid reported that she had failed her finals and wasn't going to bother to retake them because she was marrying a fellow student and emigrating to New Zealand with him. Why, just why? If they wanted to send her to NZ who not have her graduate with flying colours and get a job out there, whether or not she got married? Angry

Of course we do have one shining star amongst the young women of Ambridge - step forward Pip, the Brain of Borsetshire. Hmm

songbird · 07/01/2016 14:44

seek Grin

ppeatfruit · 07/01/2016 14:46

Well Gaspode It has been known for a male in Amb. to flunk uni. In my book David is described as doing just that.

BYOSnowman · 07/01/2016 14:49

Other than Alice, who has successfully graduated then?
