They don't offer speeding courses automatically, do they? I have no idea what the criteria are, but a friend who was done for 38 mph in a 30 zone was offered it.

Dipankrispaneven · 03/12/2015 12:36

Sorry, that should have said that friend wasn't offered a speeding course.

NotdeadyetBOING · 03/12/2015 12:37

I think they offer them as long as a) the speed wasn't too far over the limit and b) you don't already have lots of speeding offences/points not that I'd know from personal experience, of course - ahem

Swannykazoo · 03/12/2015 13:05

How infrequently do you have to post to be a lurker de-lurking rather than in infrequent poster?
Actually we've heard very little from St Smugula and the Vicar of Smugness.
I love Linda Snell and tell DS (daily) when watching Postman Pat that the voices are mainly by Linda Snell

EBearhug · 03/12/2015 13:28

You can't have done one in the last three years, and it's not an option over certain limits.

Beyond that, it's down to the discretion of the local police force, I think, so margins can vary, depending where you are.

DadDadDad · 03/12/2015 13:31

My (not to be taken too seriously) view: "Lurker" has to be a self-defining label. You are lurking if you are reading a thread with no intention of posting. As soon as you change that view of yourself, then you can de-lurk and possibly become an infrequent poster, or possibly return to lurking.

On the other hand, "infrequent poster" is rigidly defined in EU legislation as someone who posts at a rate less than seven times in nineteen weeks. Grin

EBearhug · 03/12/2015 13:32

Also the play - when's it being performed? Surely it is all very last minute, Lynda only finished casting last week now she's working out sight lines with the cast but it'll be performed in under 3 weeks, would it really be ready in that time?

They do this most years, though, don't they? Though I'd have thought more normally, they'd have casting done round September and the whole autumn to rehearse.

SunnySomer · 03/12/2015 13:56

Grin I thought Ebear's post was the rules of (un)lurking - rereading, it's about speeding, isn't it?

SunnySomer · 03/12/2015 13:56

(The one at 13.28)

StubbleTurnips · 03/12/2015 14:14

Caught up, and all I can say is pah

Glad Ruth has buggered off for a bit.
Rob is still a git.
I'm not buying the hostel situation either.

Considering we're hearing so much about BF there's no talk of the ewe hogs, are they there??

lljkk · 03/12/2015 14:19

Oh yeah, RoyTucker (PP) is so right about what the speeding letters say (just speaking from hypotheticals, you understand).

I could not possibly muster less interest in TA Xmas play.

Dipankrispaneven · 03/12/2015 14:20

I'd have thought most amateur companies doing Calendar Girls would go for the body stocking option. It's got to be a disincentive if, despite being able to conceal your bits from the audience, the stage manager, prompter and scene shifters can See All.

EBearhug · 03/12/2015 14:20

it's about speeding, isn't it?

Yes.

I knew what I was talking about. You just have to read my mind

trevortrevorslatterfry · 03/12/2015 14:39

StubbleTurnips they did mention the ewe hogs the other day, to say how well they were doing (I think it was Deeevid who said it).
I only remembered because I like the name of them. Like a sheep/pig hybrid.

(Sorry DFW I know you did do a proper explanation of what all the kinds / (ages?) of sheep are, and their different names, a while ago. Sadly I have remembered NIL).

DadDadDad · 03/12/2015 14:53

I love the idea of the police enforcing lurker status. "Madam, you're a registered lurker - I've got your SORN* here, but we clocked you posting twice on a major thread in the past week using our ANPR^..."

tootsietoo · 03/12/2015 15:00

I post, but never on here! I am a little concerned however that I referred my mother to this thread last week, so she might also be lurking now. Hello mum!

She always listened to TA when I was growing up. Then I got properly hooked in by a housemate in 2001.

I can hardly bear to listen any more because of Knob. Even DD2 knows who Evil Rob is now!

ApplesinmyPocket · 03/12/2015 15:15

That man on the moon.... it's Joe, isn't it Sad

Seriouslyffs · 03/12/2015 16:25

Ref. poor Grundy's and the high handed gentry in Ambridge, didn't some 'Labour grandee' (Foot?Benn?) call TA, 'The Grundy's and their Oppressors'?

FinestGrundyTurkey · 03/12/2015 16:39

I genuinely thought you were being satirical about lurkers, Ebear Grin

RoyTucker · 03/12/2015 16:45

Love the SORN /ANPR idea Dadx3 - something extra to include in your spreadshit?

on the speeding thing, first up you have to write back admitting that it was you driving, (you know Helen - you rather than your brother). Then you get the letter saying speed awareness course or just straight to points if you've been very naughty. Blimey I didn't realise when I took this username I would actually start being as dull as Roy of the Rotas himself.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/12/2015 16:46

That was Neil Kinnock, Seriously.

DadDadDad · 03/12/2015 17:07

I start to worry when people mention my spreadshit, that you think I'm frantically recording all your posts, analysing how often everyone posts, who said what, etc. I'm not that infested! Shock

All I do with each of these threads is make a note when it ends. I started it out of curiosity to track the fluctuation in posting rate as the interest / anger in storylines rises and falls. This thread has averaged 86 posts per day so far, higher than normal because of all those de-lurkers.

Still waiting to beat the one day record: 24 hours starting 18:57 on 23 April 2014, the TA thread got 329 posts!

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/12/2015 17:43

Did anyone ever read Superman comics? If so, do you remember Bizarro Superman? Sort of Superman, but bizarre. We now have Bizzaro Archers.

redshoeblueshoe · 03/12/2015 17:58

DDD the cheese one seemed to go very quickly due to all the cheesey puns.

GypsyFl0ss · 03/12/2015 18:03

I love the idea of Bizarro Archers...it sums it up so well at the moment!
