I think Bert and Joe will do a nice odd couple style bungalow-share

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 20:19

I took that to mean that Charlie had been unsympathetic to Rob's lateness and long lunches

Oh that's exactly what he meant. It was all about gay Charlie vs macho hetero Rob in Rob's head.

As for Stefan's alleged family problems - we have no proof they ever existed. Hence my Hmm

Imbroglio · 02/12/2015 20:25

Poor Joe.

GypsyFl0ss · 02/12/2015 20:51

That was my thought too fredabear

Poor Joe...I loved his misnamed "toot sweet" but really cannot imagine a man of his age being expected by fend for himself in a homeless hostel. Why haven't adult social care been involved? And yes definitely to Alan having something to say. Didn't he camp out to raise awareness of homelessness one year?

Gruach · 02/12/2015 21:40

Here we go again.

Have they learned nothing from the HWMNBN fiasco? I find it very unlikely that a homeless hostel would even accept anyone of Joe's age, though I don't know.

The Grundys are far more popular in the village than D. as well ...

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 22:02

DD2 is a social worker (with the elderly mostly). I just put this to her. She said

No! Well not in any councils I've worked for anyway. He'd get a residential placement at least until something else was sorted, e.g. sheltered accommodation
I know times are hard but most local authorities still have some conscience!

did they actually go to social services though or just to 'the council'?

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 22:03

Ps

In fact most hostels have age restrictions on them, so 18-65 or maybe even 55 actually

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 22:06

it may possibly have happened somewhere once but I imagine it would be one those things that would only happen once??!!

So she agrees it's a typically unresearched rubbish Archers storyline

BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 22:06

Well being the archers no one pops into the local cab so never know what they should actually be doing

This whole sl is a load of rubbish. If I were joe I'd be totally pissed off with Eddie and clarrie and making them feel really bad they won't share their one bed with him!!

Funny how 1 the green was ready for them to move into a few weeks ago but now is nowhere near ready

dont forget rickyard wasn't appropriate for Bert for some reason so wouldn't work for grundys I guess

Finest - you need to get your dd to send a sternly worded letter about accuracy!

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 22:08

Hope this cheers us all up. Poor old joe would never have been put in this position in RL Smile

BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 22:11

Ds went to see jetty feather at the theatre today and was in tears over the death of a young boy. Trying to cheer him up was not easy once we had tried the radio for distraction. And now he's crying in his sleep and I'm thinking of hiding the radio!!

BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 22:12

Nice to know finest. It's tough being old and often very lonely (especially when your own son won't take the sofa bed for you)

StubbleTurnips · 02/12/2015 22:13
BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 22:19

Hardcore stubble

Please tell me you don't work in a customer facing role - you'll be ripping their heads off by lunchtime!

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 22:21

It is encouraging, isn't it, BYOS Smile

DD2 had to deal with a horrible incident lately where a nice old chap had his pension & winter fuel payment swiped by 2 girls at the PO Angry (one bumped, the other lifted)

Even in the current economic climate the council was able to make a small ex gratia payment & give him some food. Please god we never get to the point where that's not possible any more

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 22:23

Sorry about your sad DS Sad

Hope he feels brighter tomorriw

BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 22:24

I wish I was more of a people person - then I would volunteer to befriend lonely old people. It still makes me feel sad when I think of my grandad on his own the last few years.

I'm glad your dd is helping!!

Dipankrispaneven · 02/12/2015 22:25

Yet another storyline that we all know is going nowhere. What's the point laying on all the pathos about Joe going into a hostel when we know it's not going to happen?

BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 22:27

Maybe it should be renamed

'Show based in countryside that has badly researched and overly dramatic build ups to storylines that never actually happen'

Or is that not catchy enough...

The meadow rise sl was pretty much the same but handled so much better

R4 · 02/12/2015 22:55

I wish I was more of a people person - then I would volunteer to befriend lonely old people.

Have you heard of the Spare Chair Sunday idea.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 02/12/2015 22:56

I call shenanigans.
Eddie would live in the hostel himself before he'd put Joe on there.

St Smugula has a spare room.
Lizzie has the room her mum just vacated.
What has happened to Bert's cottage?

Not to mention the spare room at Carol's place (she offered to share with Jill).

And what happened to Aunty whatserfaces places when she moved in with Peggy?

It is bollocks. Utter bollocks.

BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 23:01

That's a lovely idea r4 but I don't think anyone would want to have lunch with me!!!

Christine's house now has plod and fallon in it

Meaning there is a spare room at the bull

FinestGrundyTurkey · 02/12/2015 23:03

Fallon & PCB are in Auntie Cardboard's house.
Shula still has Jim? (Where is Jazzer?)
Joe would be no more of an asset at LL than at GG, to be fair.
Of those options, Carol's is probably the least unlikely but she's not particularly pally with the Grundys...
But yes, there are other options! Starting with the Vicarage as previously suggested. Alan would put joe up like a shot!
It is all v v silly Hmm

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 02/12/2015 23:04

Feck it. Joe can come and live we me. Bartleby can stay on the allotment. I'll shift the bikes so he can drink cider in the shed.

Every bit as plausible as 94 yr old in homeless hostel for Christmas.

BYOSnowman · 02/12/2015 23:07

If bartleby can walk down stairs he is welcome to my garden!

Are they going to make joe stay at the hostel or do a rota picking him up and taking him home for bedtime - I bet a hostel bed is loads better than a sofa bed after all

I struggle to believe none of the sw writers have pointed out the stupidity of this sl. I think I might even be finding it more irritating than the great non move up north
