I'd completely forgotten that Pip hired him!

CremeBrulee · 01/12/2015 22:36

Now that Helen has married him, Knob has a vacancy for a mistress. This will be acted on once the scan makes it clear that Helen has foolishly decided to make the baby a girl just to spite Knob. I think Elizabeth would be high up on his list of candidates but would be tricky due to family connections. However that stately home has got to be a more than attractive bonus for Knob.

Maybe he could become a toyboy for Lillian? She would eat him for breakfast Grin

A late de-lurk here. I listen to podcast in chunks so am always behind, so I drop in occasionally to read what you lovely people have to say. I also enjoy the extremely sweary Archers Appreciation group on FB (but MN hates FB, right?).

My question to you all is what happened to Route B? I haven't missed episodes but may have forgotten something (age-related). All that campaigning, planned moving, and now nothing.

nippiesweetie · 01/12/2015 23:09

AnnieNoMouse and DSClark Yes to this. There is a rigid 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree' attitude among the scriptwriters. Years ago a schoolboy Edwood was doing well in the school choir. Great, I thought, get him to a choir school (Oliver as guide) and start developing him as the next generation's Nelson Gabriel; my favourite Archer character of all time.

Now, Nelson, he fell miles from the tree but still loved his dear old dad. Nelson and Walter scenes were a joy and Nelson's acerbic wit added so much to the programme.

I dreamt on, of course. It would never occur to these scriptwriters to allow that to happen. Still, to this day, I have the ghost of that other Edward in mind when the Grundys are put through hell yet again.

So Rob can milk cows! (According to his offer to David) Matthew is single, and Susan and LYnda can't figure out who a visitor from the far north could be... What was that about not serving LL wine with cheese?

nippiesweetie · 01/12/2015 23:22

Sorry, should have traced the thread back further. With you all the way NotQuite

magnificatAnimaMea · 01/12/2015 23:49

delurking here too. Actually i delurked last thread. Have been an embarrassed* listener since the days of Shula's affair with the doctor chap. Stopped listening when it all got too soapy, but still read Lowfield and this thread.

*Most people I know seem to despise the Archers because it's too soapy. I think i actually just need to get a life - it weirdly fills a gossip/ family life void in my life that I don't like to admit is there. Blush

febreeze · 01/12/2015 23:51

I thought Matthew sounded like a potential new love interest for Ian. Ian can in fact dump Adam at the altar and shack up with Matthew (it was how he said he didn't have a girlfriend). Adam can then get it on with Charlie. Debbie can have strop about it.

redshoeblueshoe · 02/12/2015 05:49

I loved the tradesman's entrance remark. But I fear you are all right, he has created a vacancy, and I'm sure he'd love the challenge.
I did notice at our hospital yesterday you can get a gender scan for £39, but I can think he must have spent all Hellin's dowry by now. Also that price is at an NHS hospital, and he has stressed they are going to a private hospital.

LillianGish · 02/12/2015 07:23

Matthew the milker has a voice and somewhere to live so I think predictions he would be a silent passer-through were premature. It also seems unlikely the Grundies will be moving into Rickyard anytime soon Sad

BitOutOfPractice · 02/12/2015 07:41

Chris Evans had said that he'll have someone from Ambridge on his show later (R2) to talk about how sales of goose have rocketed this year thanks to the Fairbrethren

redshoeblueshoe · 02/12/2015 08:35

Is that sales of geese in Ambridge ? Grin

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 02/12/2015 08:46

I love Lynda!

It's unbelievable that they can't cover the fortnight till Ruth gets back using local people. Eddie, Ed, Tom, Rob ( well he offered but probably wouldn't actually do it), Pip are all milkers, while jazza, Neil, Johnny would all help out on the farm.
Mike was looking for work at Berrow Farm. Berrow Farm is manned by youngsters who would be up for extra shifts.
Bonkers

Gruach · 02/12/2015 09:23

I might not be keen on having anyone from Plague City Berrow Farm setting foot on my land ...

R4 · 02/12/2015 09:29

You are forgetting that Ruth's special cows that she forgot all summer need dedicated one-to-one cow whisperers. After all, look at what happened to David when he thought "I'll do a casual shift".
She has trained them well.
Be afraid Matthew.

ppeatfruit · 02/12/2015 11:09

If anyone else mentions the name of HWMNBM I'll bury them under a pile of sugar filled cereal boxes with custard toppings and cheap chocolate advent calendars Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Gruach · 02/12/2015 11:29

Just listened to Lynda on R2 (via Twitter so assume on iplayer).

Interesting response to one question ...

Tell us, tell us Gruach. On the spoilers thread if necessary.

Gruach · 02/12/2015 12:39

Oh, it was no spoiler. She squawked with laughter when CE suggested the actors might have had some say in the decision to do Calendar Girls and made it very clear that it was solely SOC's idea.

redshoeblueshoe · 02/12/2015 13:21

Hey its radio - surely they don't have to take their clothes off.

NotdeadyetBOING · 02/12/2015 14:00

I totally agree with whoever said the new milker's voice is like a strange hybrid of Johnny & Tom. More confusion ahead or really clumsy speech including unnecessary use of names.

God I wish someone would point out some basic facts of biology to Knob re. what determines sex of babies (i.e. SPERM). So when Hellin is found to be harbouring a weak and feeble GEL he will have only himself to blame….

squeaver · 02/12/2015 15:47

Controversially, I actually think New Milking Boy does have a distinctive voice.

I too thought Knob was sniffing around Lizzie. I wonder if knows about Roy? Don't think he'd be too impressed with that tradesman's entrance.

gruach I know Tom probably wouldn't be smart enough to put it all together, which leads me to my second cry: WHERE'S FALLON??
