FourShow, welcome from a semi-lurker. Pat actually started out as a feminist, many moons ago, but has inexplicably become a simpering acolyte of Rob who believes that pregnant women shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Helen, far from being a lovely woman, has been vile for most of her life; spoilt, entitled and sheltered to the nth degree (although the phrase 'doggedly independent' is what the SWs seem to like to use to describe her, no-one knows why). It's only really since the advent of Knob that many people are feeling sympathy for her, myself included. When she was pregnant with Henry I'd quite cheerfully have throttled her for her appalling behaviour towards all and sundry, but especially her long-suffering father.

I can't wait for the current HellRob SL to be resolved, but I can't imagine what will happen to H's character when it's over.

C'mon now people! Dave has 75% more Emotional Intelligence than knob.

Nah I reckon Mathew IS THE MAN for Peep. hence the reason he's available. It sounds like he's a supply farmer so does short term 'fill ins'.

What happens to Helen depends, I suppose, on whether she gets herself out of the situation or he gets his Comeuppance from an external source (police?) in which case will she stick loyally by him?

It sounds to me as though she's too much weakened to fight back now. She was so chirpy at the shop opening but at home she's a shadow.

De-lurking after years

I've been listening (full time) to TA now for over two years (both Omnibus and evenings) but have listened from time to time for donkeys years.

I just wanted to agree with all those who say it's bloody annoying when characters just seem to disappear without trace or further mention after being key people for what seems like ages.

Take Anthea, as someone mentioned above. She would have been great moving into any number of other positions in the village. Another one is Daryl. What happened to him? Where did he go? I wondered if all the thefts/break-ins were down to him but nobody seems to mention him or who could be behind the break-ins. If that happened in my village, it'd be the sole topic on everyone's lips for months!

Having said that, I love the bad Rob (sorry, knob) and 'poor' Helen story line. I'm just waiting for the Christmas episode when something awful is bound to happen.

But Four only met her last Christmas R4!

Thinking on, Pat'n'Tone should be using their retirement to start Campaigning again. Pat-of-old would have had something to say about Corbyn, refugees, etc. I know that's probably too political to air but she could mention the Global Warming summit in Paris, get involved in the Ambridge flood plan, talk to Adam about herbal leys, etc.

But - pleeeaaaase don't encourage the SWs to bring HWMNBN back. That could definitely be the last straw.

I agree, it's not really fair to tar David with Knob's brush. When he says that he doesn't want Jill to take on too much, it's for her benefit; whereas when Knob says he doesn't want Helen to take on too much, it has nothing whatsoever to do with whether it benefits her, it's solely in order to retain control.

And before someone points out that David's concerns don't extend to Jill doing things for his family, that's true up to a point but the reality is that she likes it and he couldn't stop her anyway.

Is Daryl HWMNBN? If so, why? (If it's not too upsetting for you to explain.) I'm relatively new to the threads.

I think David is supposed to be acting as some sort of contrast to Knob - who would never, in a million years, allow Helen to go off to New Zealand on her own. Think of the harm to poor little Henry.

HWMNBN I like to think floated off in the great flood to a glorious, sunlit future where he will become far too important ever, ever to grace Ambridge again. Ever.

Sorry, Flora, cross posted. Yes, Daryl is HWMNBN. He got the name because of his capacity to cause intense, vocal irritation amongst us all Archers listeners. His disappearance from the series was not mourned.

Pip's surely going to be getting up to some rumpy-pumpy at Rickyards with the new milker.

The robbery storyline's just disappeared into the ether.

Darrell was a blow in who seemed to be in every episode for a while, at the expense of much longer-standing characters. He had a very unattractive voice and character. I was delighted when he disappeared [hard-hearted Hannah here!]. His wife Elona (the beautiful Albanian spy as she was known here) was more of a loss.

That's three mentions! I think the flashbacks are starting. "Oh, Shula, I'm soooo sorry. I really will try to sort my life out. You've been so good to me, Shula. I'm really sorry".

Stop it with the HWMNBN memories. Just stop it now!
