New thread in time for Friday's episode...

SevenOhTwo 'The Tearoom' at Low Sizergh Barn is rather nice, and has a glass viewing gallery so you can sit with your cream tea and look down at the cows being milked Grin

I don't think for one moment that the 'village girls' will be allowed anywhere near the cafe now, however. Knob has spoken.

He is vile, just vile. Come on, Kirsty, hurry it up.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 03/11/2015 10:42

gruntled that argument or indeed any logical reasonable argument would work with a normal person. But abusers don't follow logic. Rules apply to everyone else and nothing is ever their fault.

Have we ever heard Rob apologise? Or admit fault? Certainly heard him blame other people but I cannot recall him having a mea culpa moment.

The response would be something that blames Hellin for making him upset. I.e. if she doesn't want to harm the baby she musn't upset him because she might make him angry and we don't want that do we darling.

enochroot · 03/11/2015 10:44

Kirsty can't do it alone though. She doesn't know the extent. No one person does and Helen doesn't really understand it herself.
K might piece some of it together if she talked to others and then gave Pat a good shake to wake her up.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 03/11/2015 10:45

If she comes to the realisation that what he says is contradictory and hypocritical it might make her wake up and realise the mess she is in but she won't an argument with him.

As is often said on rs threads the only person you can change is yourself. The chances of changing an abuser are virtually nobe. He us abusive becauae he gains from it, he has no incentive to stopSad

redshoeblueshoe · 03/11/2015 10:46

smalllegs - your last sentence is chilling.

redshoeblueshoe · 03/11/2015 10:47

oh bugger x posted - I meant of your previous post

enochroot · 03/11/2015 10:51

We have heard him make false apologies such as "I'm sorry darling, I had your best interests in mind."
He swallowed his anger yesterday when Pat might have been in earshot then tore into Helen later - having forced her to voice an opinion in front of Pat.

How can she articulate this to anyone?

Have I mentioned The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins-Gilman?

GruntledOne · 03/11/2015 10:51

I don't get on what basis Rob could possibly conclude that "Bridge Farm Café" is a better name. "Café" sounds much more downmarket than "Tearoom" and surely Knob watches The Apprentice (how could he resist such a wonderful sneering opportunity?) and must know that everyone would instantly associate it with the café of doom.

DadDadDad · 03/11/2015 11:18

Well there's all sorts of logic and facts that Helen could challenge Rob on (for example, if he thinks it's stressful for H to make decisions, why at the time, did he tell H it was her decision? or, if he said he wasn't hungry when he came in why is he going out to eat?), but that's why she's trapped - she can't make those leaps when she's under attack.

She was breezy and bright when Rob came in the front door, then crumpled like a little child realising they are about to be told off when she realised Rob's mood. (So well acted: I could see her crumpling despite it being radio!).

BertrandRussell · 03/11/2015 11:41

Has Tony ever said anything about Rob? He must have views about his behaviour at cricket.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/11/2015 12:01

Tony doesn't dare question/criticise Hellin about anything since she was so vile to him and then ostracised him for months when he expressed his concern about her Donor Kebabby project.

He won't dare raise concerns (if he has them) about Knob to her.

FloraDiesEarly · 03/11/2015 12:17

Why isn't Clarrie getting all of the fancy stuff at Keepers'? What am I missing?

WipsGlitter · 03/11/2015 12:26

Do you think they are going to revisit the relationship with his parents? It sort of went no-where with that storyline.

EBearhug · 03/11/2015 12:28

Because Hazel is about to serve them notice so it can be rented out at a premium to commuters.

Gozogozo · 03/11/2015 12:29

Hazel Woolley is the landlord now. No way has she spent loads on granite etc for the Grundy to enjoy - she will be renting it out at the highest price possible to 'incomers'.
She hinted as much when she magnanimously gave into Peggy over the village shop.

Gozogozo · 03/11/2015 12:30

X post!

DoctorTwo · 03/11/2015 12:36

I think Laura Patikas and Timothy Watson have been superb in the HellKnob SL. That TW felt it necessary to get off social media is testament to the quality of the scriptwriting and acting.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 03/11/2015 12:43

Poor Grundies. I have just spent 10 mins reading about security of tenure not overinfested at all and I think Hazel McWitch Woolley will have to give them 2 months' notice. So at least they should get Xmas in the hotel or in the new flat.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 03/11/2015 13:09

I wonder though if they have a standard rental arrangement or if the lovely Jack Woolley might have done a special open-ended one for them which Hazel hasn't noticed, just assuming she can boot them out whenever.

Is that possible? Wouldn't it be lovely! Smile

FinestGrundyTurkey · 03/11/2015 13:14

Maybe open-ended is the wrong term, but something that can only be ended by them?

Or would the old owner's death & transfer of ownership negate something like that?

Confused

What's happening with the shop, anyway? Were they able to stop Horrible Hazel taking that back in the end? (Not listening at all has its drawbacks!)

JessieMcJessie · 03/11/2015 13:15

How stupid do they have to be though not to twig that the cottage is now much higher spec than they can afford on the current rent? Even if they don't think they'll be served notice to quit they must suspect she'll try to put the rent up at the first opportunity.

JessieMcJessie · 03/11/2015 13:16

And, obviously, force them out as they won't be able to afford it.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 03/11/2015 13:16

Sadly assuming they are on an assured shorthold tenancy I think an open-ended one means the 2-months notice.
Their best bet would be a fixed term one with years still to run but that's not the norm Sad

FinestGrundyTurkey · 03/11/2015 13:21

ASTs aren't compulsory though, are they, trevor? A benevolent landlord could draw up different terms if he wanted?

But death of benevolent landlord would probably terminate any such agreement I suppose Sad

Poor Clarrie

Toomuchtea · 03/11/2015 14:16

I am just catching up - the Rob/Helen scenes are turning my stomach.

As you say Smallegs, why would Rob change? Everything is going as he wants it. Helen's happiness is of absolutely no concern to him at all. All he wants is a compliant slave.
