New thread in time for Friday's episode...

OP posts:
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/10/2015 21:14

As far as I can recall, the Grundys thought it would be a good idea to give William a rich person as a godmother. Caroline was startled but pleased to be asked and has taken her duties very seriously. Oliver helped Ed to turn his life around years ago. I like the fact that Oliver and Caroline have a Grundy boy each to mentor. Smile

Gruach · 27/10/2015 21:14

Vaguely -

Lynda offered Christmas show parts to Kirsty, Susan and Elizabeth. The first will consider it, the second was outraged, and Elizabeth is supposed to play a widow!

Joe has been garnering parental complaints about the scariness of his Ghost Walks. Elizabeth sent her DM off to infiltrate the group and report back.

Joe "confirmed" Jill's fears that Julia wouldn't want her Goldilocksing her bed ...

Elizabeth confessed that she sometimes felt Nigel's presence in a room.

They're really working the Hallowe'en thing.

EBearhug · 27/10/2015 21:17

Overworking the Hallowe'en thing. Like overworked pastry goes all grey and solid and useless.

AnnieNoMouse · 27/10/2015 21:18

Why are the Grundy brothers so favoured by Oliver and Christine? Have been listening for maybe 8 years and have no idea!
Because if rural poverty was portrayed realistically the Grundys would still be living in that tower block, unemployed, and the SWs would be without the local yokels to sneer at/make a joke about.

Tickory · 27/10/2015 21:19

Did anyone else think it significant that Ruth and Deevid's mixing machine thingy has gone kaputt and they have to use their silage?

Are their cows going to turn belly up....Me wonders....

AnnieNoMouse · 27/10/2015 21:20

I like the complaints of Lizzy et al that Joe's stories aren't genuine. Of course they're not, ghosts aren't real!

Tickory · 27/10/2015 21:23

AnnieNM.....Caroline is William Grundy's Godmother. Oliver helped Ed through his rough patch and has a soft spot for him.

choccyp1g · 27/10/2015 21:56

Caroline is William's godmother because she and Clarrie worked in the Bull together before Will was born.

mummytime · 27/10/2015 22:11

When my Niece's (in different years) did Guided tours of The Castle in Durham, you paid to go on the tour but also gave them tips at the end (we gave them obvious and generous ones to encourage the Americans).

CuttedUpPear · 28/10/2015 05:32

Thanks R4 and Gruach Smile

dairyfarmerswife · 28/10/2015 07:11

tickory it's not that they have to use their silage, they will have been using it all along. The machine which has gone bang is a feeder wagon, which mixes up the silage with minerals, and other feeds such as potatoes or maybe maize silage, or soya beans meal to create a Total Mixed Ration, TMR. So now, without the feeder wagon they can only use silage.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 28/10/2015 08:00

So their silage won't last as long and yields go down. Making Pip harder to afford.

R4 · 28/10/2015 08:17

I was wondering about Pip last night: if she is so guilty about the cost of her upkeep, has Ruth back at work, has bright ideas for the future etc etc ... why did she hand over the share-farming opportunity to the Fairbrethern, why didn't she put herself forward to earn Brookfield some externally generated - i.e. extra - income?
It's also a no-brainer from Adam's POV. She has a lifetime's practical experience, she will follow the Brookfield sustainability model that he was cooing about, she has just graduated in a relevant degree, he knows her & her character.

selsigfach · 28/10/2015 08:38

Thanks all for the Grundy/C&O info. Never knew about C being godmother.
Good point, R4, re Pip. Adam is far too sensible to go with the Fairbrothers, whose knowledge of dairy farming extends to being able to drink a glass of milk but I imagine the SWs will ignore that.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/10/2015 09:08

I can't remember why Caroline is the godmother though

GruntledOne · 28/10/2015 09:52

Perhaps Adam offering the job to Pip will be the next point of dramatic conflict, as Toby will probably have a hissy fit about it.

FloraDiesEarly · 28/10/2015 09:55

BOOP I googled it for you and one of the first results was a Mumsnet Archers thread from 2013 and you've asked the same question at the beginning of that thread! Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 28/10/2015 10:41

Oh lord that's made me laugh Flora Grin

So 2 years later I'm still none the wiser!

I remain pizzled!

redshoeblueshoe · 28/10/2015 10:55

BOOP maybe MN should produce a definitive guide to TA I'm sure it would be a best seller. In fact I'll put my order in now

DadDadDad · 28/10/2015 11:18

the Fairbrothers, whose knowledge of dairy farming extends to being able to drink a glass of milk

Nice line - I'll put that up there with Joe's "all flash and no photo".

Collect a few more Fairbrother put-downs and that's a page in your MN guide, redshoe

DadDadDad · 28/10/2015 11:24

To be fair to BOOP, between her asking the godmother question in 2013 and asking it today, there have been over 32,400 posts on this MN chain of threads.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/10/2015 11:46

I think that line about the milk should be in the next thread title. Along with Joe saying about Calendar Girls that he's not interested in "a bit of tit..titty...tittivation." Grin

Nice stat DDD!

redshoeblueshoe · 28/10/2015 12:17

dad are you in another very boring meeting ?32,400

redshoeblueshoe · 28/10/2015 12:19

Maybe a good list of Tichener put downs too

Gruach · 28/10/2015 13:07

Ahem ...

I put the idea of a thread-authored Archers text to Olivia a while ago. MNHQ are no doubt very carefully working out our individual royalty shares as I type ...
