I can't resist alliteration Wink

It makes no sense to me. Her DM cannot manage at home alone. If they moved her to Brookfiekd there would be hundreds of people to offer support and renting out her Northumberland house could help to pay for any shorter term specialised care.

It seems so extreme to immediately think of selling the house to pay for residential care so far away from the family she does have. It certainly wouldn't solve the problem of her poor daughter having to be in two places at once.

Heather really isn't in a position to insist on staying put.

ppeatfruit · 11/07/2015 11:35

Thanks againdairyfarmers Grin But surely organic growers put proper compost on the land and mulches to control the weeds which is why the land becomes in better heart.

I like Adam too Golfhotel especially as he's become environmentally aware: I always wondered whether he would be after he returned from Africa, because if we go on in the same old way that dinosaur Brine seems too think is ok we'll end up a desert too.

minkGrundy · 11/07/2015 11:37

Its true. Her reasoning for wanting to stay put was wanting to be in her own home, which she now can't do, and not 'being a burden". Her being at Brookfield would actually lighten Ruth and everyone else's load.

She may still want to stay put if she has strong social ties to the area though. I.e. friends who will visit more than family.

ppeatfruit · 11/07/2015 11:54

I would think a good hospice would be the best thing for HP, MIL died in a NH 'convalescence' home which was fine.

Gruach · 11/07/2015 12:13

But a hospice would be completely unsuitable for someone who is recovering from a stroke.

Other than another stroke there's no reason to think Heather is in imminent danger of death. She hasn't had the worst kind of stroke - she's conscious and argumentative and although no doubt left with a degree of physical impairment / perception difficulties / poorer memory and decision making skills she should over time be able to get back to normal-ish life. With help.

(Not guessing. Have seen.)

ppeatfruit · 11/07/2015 12:21

She's had how many strokes? Either a hospice or a nursing home.

ppeatfruit · 11/07/2015 12:22

Ruth didn't sound that hopeful when she discussed it with Usha.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/07/2015 12:40

I had to visit a Brine Road yesterday and thought of you lot.

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 11/07/2015 13:02

Well, ppeat seems like we're a small fan party!

I'm sensing a reappearance of Iain when Helen returns after her week of torture holiday with Rob. I wonder if Adam has discussed any of this with him?

Also, I was very glad of the reports that Phoebe was happy again, and impressed that Jenny kept her counsel. Boop points all over for that.

Gruach · 11/07/2015 13:36

Actually I'm rather fond of Adam. But it looks as if he's also about to be smelted down to pay for Debbie's reappearance.

Icimoi · 11/07/2015 14:43

After care depends on the severity of the stroke, not the number. It sounds as if HP is a bit more severely affected than my mother, who is in a sheltered flat which means that there is a warden on call and lunches are provided, and carers go in twice a day to help with medication, shopping etc. HP might well be fine with something like that plus a higher level of care; or maybe a residential care home. I would have thought she'd only need a nursing home or hospice if she is very severely affected, which doesn't seem to be the case.

ppeatfruit · 11/07/2015 14:52

Golf Have you seen a pic of the actor? The best looking of all of them IMHO Grin

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 11/07/2015 20:17

I thought a hospice was somewhere you went when you didn't have long left?

Sheltered accommodation is brilliant but you have to get in before your health declines too much.

Agree that if she doesn't want to e any bother (which is all we hear) she should move to Brookfield or into a nursing home if the can find a good one near her social network

Gruach · 11/07/2015 21:39

Mmm .... I guess what I meant to say earlier is that the best thing for Heather, now, will be a lively multi-generational household of people who love her. Not to be locked up in a room with a gang of equally elderly and poorly strangers, attended to exclusively by other strangers. Once she's fit enough to leave hospital Josh and Ben and family noise and Jill's honey will do her far more good than paid for care in isolation.

ppeatfruit · 12/07/2015 07:15

But if she's loosing\lost her marbles and just wants out of the hospital IMO the best thing would be paid for 24hr care, with visits from Ruth of course, in her own home. Not a noisy unfamiliar place and area (I know it's not totally unfamiliar, do you watch Outnumbered? Their FIL didn't want to be with them) .

squeaver · 12/07/2015 14:40

Couldn't HeatherPet just go into The Laurels?

Enormous BOOPs for Jenny & Phoebe.

I'm not sure TobyTwat has an on-going thing keeping him from the agriculture show. He just thought (and who can blame him?) it would be yawn-some. All this talk about using Pip to get his hands on Brookfield land is extremely creepy, though.

I really hope Debbie's coming back to do more than sort out Adam's existential maize crisis.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/07/2015 14:48

Unless they replace the actress Debbie won't be around long unless they make her specialise in mime

Maybe she will be involved in a terrible accident which will only impact her vocal chords

The 'only interested in her land' thing seems a bit old fashioned and weird as she doesn't actually own it and her parents are likely to disinherit her Iftar fair brothers continue the way they are

Maybe Toby is actually out for revenge on the Brookfield archers for some weird reason soc has made up

DoctorTwo · 12/07/2015 15:14

An hour long spesh on Grace Archer 50 years after her death. Should be interesting.

When Toby said that about the land my first thought was The Wurzels I've got a brand new combine harvester. "And I can't wait to get my hands on your land." :o

lottiegarbanzo · 12/07/2015 15:19

I like Adam and I've really enjoyed the Adam / Charlie saga. Probably shouldn't admit to quite liking Charlie too.

squeaver · 12/07/2015 15:28

I like Charlie too, lottie, and I'm pretty sure he and Adam will end up together. But I'd like to hear from Ian a bit more, not least because he's Hellin's confidante. A good storyline would be him helping her out of that relationship while not realising Adam is slipping away from him.

Icimoi · 12/07/2015 16:53

it does seem clear that Tobes has some shameful secret that prevented him from going to the agricultural show. I'm now thinking it was community service. I did wonder about something like a child maintenance hearing, but I suspect they won't do that again so soon after the Rob/Ethan storyline.

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 12/07/2015 17:10

Ici, that's interesting- I assumed it was because he was meeting a girl?

I'm useless at seeing these things coming!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/07/2015 17:28

I ass uned it's because he's lazy with little real interest in farming

R4 · 12/07/2015 18:45

Strange you should mention The Wurzels, DoctorTwo. I was trying to think of the literary reference for Tobes but could only come up with a pop song. Mine is Mungo Jerry's In the Summertime :
"If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor just do what you feel"
(Shows how far Brine has slipped down the county)

I don't think we will find out Tobes' murky secret. As we all know 'what happens in Brighton stays in Brighton'

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/07/2015 19:38

Well Charlie and Adam have fallen out big time!

And hopefully Charlie is so pissed off with rob he reignites the culvert investigation
