Rejoice, for the Dopeys are staying in Ambridge to feast on Oedipal flapjacks. Or at least David is. Discuss The Archers here.

Will Peggy make it to the end of this thread?

I think I'd rather take my chances in the murky floodwater, enoch.

ppeatfruit · 06/03/2015 14:28

Good one songbird Grin Soak Ambridge to the Core Grin

I think it's good to see how people who would normally have coped, are knocked sideways by the enormity of the flooding e.g. Linda.

mummytime · 06/03/2015 14:47

I really feel sorry for the lot in the Church. Brookfield is okay, and now Pip has Tom its less fraught - Bert did seem confused and not much help. Grey Gables even if over crowded is where I'd like to be evacuated too (better than a school hall). But there won't be much practical at the church (tea?) and its not that much higher than the flood water.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/03/2015 17:21

Well, I've really enjoyed it in all its hamminess! Wouldn't want the one Ambridge day over a real life week style to be repeated anytime soon though.

I am (almost) certain that the sinkhole is going to declare itself in the aftermath, thus cancelling the road plans. Will folk know that Deeeveed had already decided he couldn't go through with the sale or will they continue to despise him, à la Lynda?

Love Soaking Ambridge to the Core and also love the idea of listening to The Archers with hyena noises in the background. Just fabulous!

LillianGish · 06/03/2015 17:25

Love Soaking Ambridge to the Core and also love the idea of listening to The Archers with hyena Me too. I love this thread. Made the mistake of straying over onto a parking thread during an idle moment - what was I thinking of?! Not my sort of people at all (worse than being stuck at St Stephen's during the flood).

enochroot · 06/03/2015 17:51

SOC is on Feedback next Friday! Apres le deluge.

Minimammoth · 06/03/2015 18:10

I just knew his presence would be planned, post some kind of dramatic triumph.he will be preening.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/03/2015 18:14

I also thought that David would insist on going back to the farm. His only daughter, who's only, what 20? is alone coping with flooding. Nothing would stop him from getting back there.

That's why Lizzie had to fetch up at GG (apart from interlude with Roy). She of all people begging her big brother not to do something stupid (remembering the roof) would be persuasive.

Icimoi · 06/03/2015 18:40

Roy is working up to pointing out to Lizzie that he's essentially a free agent now and they should get together, isn't he? But I do hope Lizzie will remember that Frilly despise Roy whilst Phoebe despises her and tell him to get lost.

I don't mind the flood storyline in itself, it is simply a reflection of what happened last year and it's pointless saying it should have happened then when episodes have to be recorded weeks in advance. What I object to is it coming so soon after Tony's accident and in the middle of the climax to the Brookfield saga. I like my dramatic climaxes to be well spaced out.

florentina1 · 06/03/2015 18:46

Did anyone listen to the last few minutes of Fedback today.

A Churchillian address, we will fight In the lambing sheds, will will fight on Lakey Hill etc, brilliant.

PigletJohn · 06/03/2015 18:47

A few weeks ago, I heard a whisper that Peggy was being written out. The actress is now extremely old and frail.

PigletJohn · 06/03/2015 18:48

Ici

You can rely on Lizzie to do the right wrong thing,

Bluestocking · 06/03/2015 19:05

Adam, are you coming?
Fnarrr!

enochroot · 06/03/2015 19:08

Ruth comes home.
Find Carol there.
Leaves.

sunnydayinmay · 06/03/2015 19:11

poor sheepSad

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 06/03/2015 19:13

Bit more drama. Sounds like Tom is the local go to man.

Poor sheep

Not so sorry for carol and her soggy carpet

Is Adam going to have an existential crisis?

Pip turne into Emma when looking at the Herefords.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 06/03/2015 19:17

It's just all so clunky. So all is ok and te archers now know they belong in ambridge. Yawn. 12 months to do a 360

GypsyFloss · 06/03/2015 19:18

Was that a triumphal extended theme tune there at the end? I'm sure I heard more than we usually hear.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 06/03/2015 19:24

Yes gypsy

Soc thinks that the last 12 months of nonsense have been justified by this week

I think they could have done flood week without all the nonsense in run up

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 06/03/2015 19:27

I think they could have done flood week without all the nonsense in run up

So do I, but I enjoyed flood week.

I'm quite sure it was the extended theme. I was dancing for joy at that [saddo emoticon goes here]. Vanessa Whitburn put her foot down and refused to allow it to be used. Shock

Still rather worried about what day it will be when we return to Ambridge.

GypsyFloss · 06/03/2015 19:45

How many versions of the theme tune are there Mimsy?
I used to read about the Doom Music on the old ML site but was never sure what that was.
Phil was played out to the Dream of Gerontius wasn't he? So I'm assuming the Doom Music is different?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 06/03/2015 19:59

Yes, the Doom Music is just the standard version of Barwick Green but played for a bit longer.

They used to play a slightly longer bit of the theme tune at the end of a particularly significant episode but VW stopped all that. At the end of episodes when people have died, there's sometimes been complete silence, which is odd. At the end of John Archer's funeral they played out to Wonderwall, which was supposed to have been chosen by his friends as a favourite of his.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 06/03/2015 20:00

Memo to self: have a look at the first hit on Google before pasting link in here. The link above is to an actual episode from the 70s. Interesting, but not what I was aiming for!

Pipbin · 06/03/2015 20:03

I know the group that played the Sunday theme.

What day of the week was it today?

Icimoi · 06/03/2015 20:11

Hang on, what was all that with Pip saying she never wanted to leave Brookfield? Has SOC belatedly been paying attention to all the people saying how ludicrous it was to suggest the Dopey children were all enthusiastic supporters of the move?

The extended version of the theme tune really goes into triumphal mode, doesn't it? It sounded almost like SOC saying "Haven't I been clever this week?"
