Will Peggy make it to the end of this thread?

OP posts:
Eastpoint · 28/02/2015 16:29

I have teens and my son would be incredibly reluctant to move house. Moving in the middle of the AS year would mean that Josh would have to start 6th form college all over again, how could any parent think that was a good idea?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 17:13

How indeed, Eastpoint, and yet never even mentioned on TA as any sort of problem. Ludicrous.

squeaver · 28/02/2015 17:29

Back to Sam the Cowman... Someone pointed out on the last thread that David forgave her after she almost left him. Which is why it's so odd to have it dragged up again now, after such a long time.

Great thread title.

ppeatfruit · 28/02/2015 17:31

yes Mimsy one can almost understand the adults blinding themselves with optimism and excitement about moving but the teenagers NO WAY Grin

Thank you for the new thread *Psued8 I'll pop back to the last one because there' still a few laggards posting on it!!!!Grin

Oh and AO could metamorphasise into a Farmers' Market stall couldn't it?

ragged · 28/02/2015 17:43

Why couldn't Heatherpet move close to Ruth? Why was that not considered? If HP's friends were so important, why can't she house-share with one of them considering how vulnerable she is?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 17:52

I think it was mentioned, ragged, but in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of way. Heather apparently said no, she wouldn't move to Ambridge, and Ruth's response to that was to say well, in that case, we'll sell up here and move at this very inconvenient point in the boys' education and during Pip's last year at Felpersham when she surely ought to be focusing on her finals. Hmm

TopazRocks · 28/02/2015 18:05

Thanks for new thread, Pseudo.

What gets me about the Brookfield sons being upset about not moving to near Heather I that in all their lives they've spent very little time with her. Like others of you, I'd expect them to prefer to stay where they've always been. As for Josh's As, I dunno the system (ich bin in Schottland!)but did he do well enough in GCSEs to do A levels except in PE?

I think the Sam story was more ludicrous than the moving to Northumberland one. And David was a bit PA about it, I seem to recall - long silences/ignoring, then they seemed to just resolve things without any more discussion. And we can't blame the Soc for that.

BTW as a child I had an 'aunt' (grandmother's best friend so not a real aunt) who was the spit of the Bairn Broon - the face shape and hair style, and not very tall. AND she spoke like her too. Grin I imagine the Bairn is blond whereas aunt was grey, but nobody would know with black and white drawings.

Talking of hair dos, I wonder if Peggy has had her hair done since the day of Tony's accident. If she's as well groomed as others say, then that IS a worry. AND she rarely goes to shops so where does she get her Windsmoor gear from? mail order? We should be told!

enochroot · 28/02/2015 18:10

I too have been concerned about Peggy's hair!

Great title for a shiny new thread. Thank you.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 18:18

If she's anything like my mum, she'll have wardrobes and chests overflowing with clothes that have been carefully washed, ironed and cherished - so many of them that there's no chance for anything to wear out. Smile

minkGrundy · 28/02/2015 18:45

I don't think anyone outside of this thread mentioned Sam? He wasn't brought up explicitly so we cannot really complain it is ridiculous to bring it upGrin

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2015 18:48

did he do well enough in GCSEs to do A levels except in PE?

IIRC he did well enough in the necessary subjects - everyone was pleased with his results. I think he was also going to do Biology but not sure what else.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2015 18:52

mink - yes, all Usha really said was that no-one's perfect, though the tone of voice certainly implied 'remember Sam' to anyone who knew. (I thought it was very well done, want more Usha!)

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/02/2015 18:58

I am finding Rooth highly annoying and hypocritical, she went into the move all guns blazing leaving David and St Jill with some difficult decisions which she has never acknowledged or appreciated. I don't think Josh and Ben give two hoots.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 19:24

He really didn't do well enough to go on to A level in science subjects. I find I posted this at the time:

Phoebe: 7 A*s, 2 As, 2 Bs.
Josh: A in PE, B in Maths, B in Geography, C in everything else.

Judging by some of the threads on here in real life it would be very much in doubt whether he could stay on to do A levels with those grades. Maybe we're in for a story where he drops out because he isn't up to the work. It's a big jump from GCSE to A level, especially if you haven't got a really solid grounding from the GCSE work.

I see I was overly optimistic about the realism of the storyline. Instead we got a story where Josh accepted without a blinking of an eye that he would move colleges between year 12 and year 13 with no guarantee that the syllabuses would match! Yeah, right.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 28/02/2015 19:34

I'm a bit late to the party, and just catching up on the threads. Ed won't be able to put horses on his field even if he can sublet, without getting change of use from the planners. Horses are not classed as agricultural animals and the planners don't like horse\ pony fields as they tend to be separated into paddocks with electric fencing and are not aesthetically pleasing. I can only keep the DDs ponies on our farm because they are family ponies, but they had to be registered with DEFRA.I wouldn't even be able to allow a friend to graze their horse with mine and technically we aren't allowed to put jumps up in the paddock or ride in there either as they aren't agricultural activities.

Ed must have got a huge amount from the sale of his herd to be able to buy a tractor suitable for contracting.Hmm We aren't tenants,so don't have the worry of paying rent, but our newest tractor is an H reg.

Don't know, baby! Did you mean SOTMC? That's shuffle off this mortal coil.

cheminotte · 28/02/2015 20:44

Thanks for new thread Pseudo - a bit behind with listening, but loved Peggy's comment about it being Robert's job to support Helen.

Mimsy - I probably misremembered what Josh is supposed to be doing. Maybe it's BTecs? (Although I'm not sure whether MN always gives an entirely representative picture re GCSE grades)

EBearhug · 28/02/2015 22:23

Just checking in.

stilllearnin · 28/02/2015 22:50

To pseudo thanking you. To ici sincerest apologies! You did say something I wanted to respond to, but that was not it. And I was WRONG anyway!!!! I have been doing loads of things at once today. In fact a moment ago I said to ds, can I just have 5 minutes to read the archers Grin

CuttedUpPear · 28/02/2015 23:13

And a milking stool for apples as requested - we only have the one with the wonky leg left though, hope you don't mind. If you put it at the front you should be ok.

Littleturkish · 01/03/2015 02:54

Place marking for when I listen tothe film tomorrow!

So pleased the reason behind the move's cancellation has been revealed- now we can all focus on the good stuff. Like the inevitable family fallout!

PetulaGordino · 01/03/2015 08:23

The children all being totally ok with it is utter nonsense. I can remember finding moving v difficult as a child and we didn't even have the family and lifelong friend ties that they have. They would have been leaving the place they have lived in since they were born, they should have an inkling of what david is feeling
