Rejoice, for the Dopeys are staying in Ambridge to feast on Oedipal flapjacks. Or at least David is. Discuss The Archers here.

Will Peggy make it to the end of this thread?

I loved Helen!
Helen: "I know you would just feel awful if you didn't stay to help!"
Rob: ".... ....."

HA.

Yes poor Pip being abandoned by her stupid Dad. And I don't like Newpip at all!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 03/03/2015 10:10

Totally agree r4 and errol

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2015 10:14

That's part of Helen's problem, isn't it? With all their faults, her family etc are basically decent people and she interprets Rob by her own standards - even apart from being blinded by love and his (cracking) mask, she's just not primed to see the problems. Caroline and Shula, who've experienced shits like Simon Pemberton got it quickly.

nauticant · 03/03/2015 10:14

If tonight's is effectively the same episode extended then I'll be turning it off.

enochroot · 03/03/2015 10:17

Poor David though! Torn two ways as usual, always having to make choices.
Though Eddie is urging him to get back home to rescue Pip and that's what he should do.

Such a contrast with Rob who got the warning and only thought of himself.

Alsoflamingo · 03/03/2015 10:33

Totally share R4's concerns about what is likely to be in store for us tonight.

Does seem strange given the amount of moaning constructive feedback there has been from loyal TA listeners about over-hyped story lines a la EE. Almost as if Sock has just decided to stick his tongue out at us all and go 'naaaa na na naa na'.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 03/03/2015 10:41

nauticant. I have a horrible feeling tonight is going to last the whole week

nauticant · 03/03/2015 10:43

If you look at twitter you'll see this SL is going down a storm and there's loads of activity. Although there's lots of criticism that seems to be largely drowned out by the "Yay! Excitement!" tweets.

Either the message from long-term listeners is not getting through or, more likely, it can be deflected by SOC telling his bosses "but look at the uptick of discussion in social media, this really is going down well with the future audience".

nauticant · 03/03/2015 10:44

That's what I suspected BYOS. Still, that'll be an extra hour of other stuff I can be getting on with.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 03/03/2015 11:09

I hope this isn't part if a plan to get rid of the nightly episodes and just have the film on sunday

songbird · 03/03/2015 11:25

I feel sorry for David being pulled this way and that as usual. But he should put his foot down and go to Pip, I loved her Little Girl 'you won't be long will you?'

Islands in the stream did make me snigger - SOC really does not do subtle does he?

Another thing Pip ran out shouting for David before Ruth drove off - would she really not have heard or noticed?

minkGrundy · 03/03/2015 11:27

I hope not BYOS.

In TA defence though I will say this is a genuine agricultural story. They are portraying what happens on a livestock farm in a flood.

The whole flood timeline thing though makes it pretty certain this is a multi episode job. The timeline isn't up to 7pm yet. Ruth has to get to prudhoe. Jill has to get home. The cows needs moved (David will you think of the cows!!! The cows!!)

if glebe is flooded does that not put Clarrie at risk?

Perhaps the plot is that they stay a Bfield but it is ruined regardless of the road (which will be cancelled due to flooding).

And the couple that Matt was all for evicting and the wife died, where did he go? To the new estate? (See Tiger was a bit nasty)

Swannykazoo · 03/03/2015 11:30

Ooooh looking forward to the yesterday's this afternoon. Do we have a name for that? (Its not the film, or the minibus obvs)
Does no-one remember that Ambrdige Hall with Lindy and the llamas floods when the Am bursts its banks. I was shouting at the radio to go and check on them. But maybe the new editor has diverted the Am.

The repeat?

As for the weather being different in Ambridge from elsewhere....em, it's not real Wink

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 03/03/2015 11:52

OMG loving this thread but FGS PLEASE keep spoilers elsewhere

CUTTEDUPPEAR - get thee to a WW box set soonest. It is sheer brilliance. (even the orchestrated episodes won Emmies - pay attention SOC Grin)

I am v worried about newPip
and also whether Eddie will have some kind of methane reaction from being in the pit - his wedge won't have held and David will get back to Pipand the parlour will be flooded away or something.

I reckon this is a planned SL to show us non agricultural folk what it was like on the Levels last year, no? "it's the fault of the houses in holler ton"
Can't wait until 7pm but am dreading in equal measure.

squeaver · 03/03/2015 12:04

Someone's going to die and there are a load of red herrings being set up.

Henry - too cruel esp for Tony and Pat
Ruth/Ben - just too much drama for David
Rob - too abrupt an end to the story line
Jill/Freda - see above re Pip/Ben

My money's on PC Plot. Hasn't been there too long. Gives a level of tragedy to Fallon (maybe to finally end up with Jazzer??). Will die doing something heroic, perhaps because of Knob running away like a toddler??

Or Eddie will catch pneumonia from going down the drain.

Also, I think something will happen to the Brookfield buildings/herd and to Route B. Road won't go ahead but Brookfield will be in financial crisis and they'll still have to sell to Justin Elliot?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2015 12:15

Anyway it's really sunny in London today so why is Ambridge having its own micro climate - it's not Manchester ...
It's not been raining particularly much in the NW either (though we did get a thunderstorm last night).

The 'new houses in Hollerton and new flood defences' sounds like they suddenly realised that the Am rarely floods especially not in a not-very rainy winter and so they've come up with an excuse. But surely these issues are reasonably well understood by planners nowadays - I find it hard to believe that new estates don't have to use permeable surfaces etc, and that the downstream consequences of flood defences aren't considered.

Alsoflamingo · 03/03/2015 12:30

Olivia I am impressed by your concern for NewPip; you are clearly a more charitable person than me. Will confess I am rather hoping she gets finished off by some unfortunate water + electrics combo.

In which case one might even call it the permanent Pip Pip (pls tell me I am not the only one whose rather old-fashioned family say 'pip pip' to mean 'goodbye' or entire post will appear unhinged….)

middlings · 03/03/2015 12:33

Actually it was pissing it down in SE London at 6.20am this morning and all I could think was "ooh - the Ambridge forecasters have got it right!"

Got into the City to find streets as dry as a bone. Weird. Clearly we have an Ambridge-esque micro-climate out my way.

I don't want anyone to die Sad

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2015 13:02

MNHQ staff probably have a contractual obligation not to wish death on anyone's child, even annoying (and fictitious) ones.

Minimammoth · 03/03/2015 13:27

Nah. No one will die, but there will be heroes, Eddie, Harrison, rob will get wet and then claim glory. Pip will emerge riding a cow as Brookfield sinks. I hope Jenny's new kitchen is not under water.

squeaver · 03/03/2015 13:28

Christ, I'd forgotten about Jenny's kitchen! Will no-one think of the Italian marble!

Love the image of Pip astride a cow.

Icimoi · 03/03/2015 13:42

LillianGish, I agree it was entirely reasonable for NewPip to be in a panic. The trouble is that she sounded more on the petulant side - her tone of voice was more along the lines of "For goodness sake, haven't you noticed the water, why haven't you stopped it rising, that's yet another stupid decision you've made!"

mummytime · 03/03/2015 13:42

Errol - around here our local council want to massively re-develop the flood plan. You know that bit of farm land they own, which is flooded every winter, as somewhere for the water to go so the flood gates in town (and the next town up river) can avoid being flooded, and to hold it before it charges down to the Thames (and very expensive housing).
They see a nice bit of farmland they own, and refuse tip/sewage works, and think "houses and a new road".

Rob had better get hurt or something - but will probably do nothing but claim glory as usual.
