Rejoice, for the Dopeys are staying in Ambridge to feast on Oedipal flapjacks. Or at least David is. Discuss The Archers here.

Will Peggy make it to the end of this thread?

It's just a shame middlings that you only had minutes to post before the entire village was swept away.

Sad
BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/03/2015 19:27

Soc so lacks subtlety

I bet when he goes out on the red carpet he has a thigh high split and a cleavage slashed to the navel

ZeroFunDame · 02/03/2015 19:28

And that flood timeline has made my heart thump.

NelsonsWineBar · 02/03/2015 19:29

middlings That West Wing season 2 finale had not only the rain but "Brothers in Arms" playing. With Dave ("Don't call me Dave") & Kenton, and Ed & Will, and various sibling quarrels it may well be an apt background toon for TA.

choccyp1g · 02/03/2015 19:29

Oh FGS! It just isn't TA anymore.

middlings · 02/03/2015 19:30

Grin zero

middlings · 02/03/2015 19:32

NelsonsWineBar I actually thought that as I was listening!!

Going to watch that tonight now..

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 02/03/2015 19:32

To be fair (what am I saying?) we did have a flood before. Ambridge Hall was flooded many years ago. I think I remember David helping out then.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/03/2015 19:33

Too much going on... a work email came in during it. I'm going to have to listen to the podcast.

So far the high point for me was hearing Rob try to get out of helping.

ZeroFunDame · 02/03/2015 19:40

So Helen is now using "darling" as a tool of aggression ...

Who was it who said Rob might have met his match?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/03/2015 19:44

I think the Helen rob storyline will end with him a quivering wreck whilst she rules roost

ZeroFunDame · 02/03/2015 19:45

She was quite steely this evening - while he was flapping about.

RocknRollNerd · 02/03/2015 19:52

All this clunky portenting of doom is really annoying me now, they keep doing this the whole 'heavy signposting' of something and then pulling back from it. It's fine as an occasional device to mislead us, especially if the signposting is subtle but they keep doing this...building it up and then creating a damp squid from it all....is there in fact a sea life centre near Ambridge, could we in fact have a literal damp squid this time Grin.

Re the WW, I'm going to go against the grain and say the s2 finale is one that I care for the least. It's very dramatic and all that but there wasn't any 'tension' in it as you knew that he was going to run again as they'd commissioned the bloody show for more seasons. I was also very cross that Mrs Landingham was killed by plot device to engineer the whole two cathedrals thing. The one where they are watching the opera and CJ's secret service guy dies is much better (even with the cliched Hallelujah sound track, at least they went with the right version) and the one where Zoe is missing is excellent.

minkGrundy · 02/03/2015 19:54

He is the flood warden.
The EA did warn him.
He told Adam.
Adam told Charlie.
Charlie told Rob.

Apparently nobody told plod.

But David should have said "Ruth is away. Pip is alone. The dairy herd needs moving."
Once I've dealt with that I'll be right back."

"Fallon can help in the meantime. She is quite capable. Jazzer is smarter than he acts. And there's always Neil. And the fire brigade"

Ffs.

I predict Ruth comes backand kicks off because once again D put Ambridge before famlee.

R4 · 02/03/2015 19:55

I didn't enjoy that. It was like the Otto episode with lots of sound effects and grunting and "look out!" and "over here!" and such like. As well as messing with the space time continuum again.
As choccy says: it ain't TA.

ZeroFunDame · 02/03/2015 19:57

Was secret service guy the lovely grey haired fellow? (Have only ever seen a couple of episodes but wept buckets over his death.) If so he actually looked exactly as I imagine Rob - although Rob's evil character must have slightly spoilt his face.

middlings · 02/03/2015 19:58

Excellent post mnkGrundy.

Rock I don't disagree that the Zoe episode was better but in my 24 year old mind, and as a WW addict forevermore at the time, the season 2 finale nearly killed me! Agree on all your other points though.

Minimammoth · 02/03/2015 20:11

Wha.....wassepeningwassapeningwassapening. Missed it. All. Humph.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/03/2015 20:16

Listening to it properly, it was a lot easier to follow than the Otto episode. So... Rob got the warning from Charlie but ignored it because it shouldn't affect the megadairy. When is Helen going to twig what a loser he is?

PC Burns OTOH is a good 'un; Eddie is (as always in a crunch) magnificent; I noticed mention tha Jim was helping people pack, he's another good egg in a crisis. As to St Stephens, I'm sure that between Alan and whatever worthies are there, they'll be fine. Poor old David isn't thinking straight. I do hope his dairy herd doesn't drown.

CuttedUpPear · 02/03/2015 20:24

Ahem scuse me....you're confusing me with the WW talk Confused

OddFodd · 02/03/2015 20:27

SOC's storylines are like the ones I wrote when I was about 14 at school, when my creative writing was chock full of disaster, murder, runaways and horses.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/03/2015 20:30

I'm rather hoping that HeatherPet has heard about the Borsetshire flooding, rung Ruth on her mobile and told her to stop being daft and get back to where she's actually needed.

dairyfarmerswife · 02/03/2015 20:41

David needs to get back to Brookfield! I think Harrison was panicking a bit, or he would have realised.

Rob was a weasel... He sounded genuinely scared about helping out, which seems at odds with his usual take control persona...

Glad the perpetual rain has finally come to something, even if it was HEAVILY signposted.

I couldn't quite work out what was going on with Eddie in the drain but surely David as the employer should be putting himself, not Eddie, in what sounded like a very dangerous and uncomfortable situation. And Pip arguing about the best solution was annoying too.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/03/2015 20:50

Harrison doesn't know the area and people well enough yet, and David is the flood warden. From H's POV it probably seemed sensible to want D there.

David said it should have been him down the drain, for some reason Eddie chose that way round. Maybe D is stronger and Eddie didn't think he could hold onto him well enough?

GypsyFloss · 02/03/2015 20:52

I bet when he goes out on the red carpet he has a thigh high split and a cleavage slashed to the navel Now that did make me laugh BYOS
