True BYOS I liked her prevarication; she told no one else anything but it's obvious that she told the police the truth.

But it was Shula who pointed out the SAB to Rob in the first place so he can hardly say she wasn't looking!

yes she did but then had to retrieve his horse so she wouldn't have been watching the whole time

the oddest part is that helen didn't hang back and maybe hold his horse for him.

But he wouldn't have been looking at her so he can't say what she saw.

that was how I heard it - she was shocked into silence, more or less, at the time, so he probably assumed she didn't see his punch (& in any case he thinks women should do as they're told)

Just listened again - she was right there when Rob hit him

Another thing that may play into this (if the SWs are on the ball) is the past history of Shula/Debbie/Simon Pemberton - not a dissimilar type to Rob?

my point is that she witnessed the punch but not everything that led up to it so she may have believed the sab threw a punch while she wasn't there, tussling and a punch occurred

her telling the police 'i saw rob go over, went to fetch his horse and then went over, so a tussle and rob punch etc' still doesn't give the full story and what happened up to that point is robs word against the sab.

As rob doesn't really know what she saw though he could easily self incriminate himself

Fabulously Booptastic idea to have St Smugula witness the altercation with the sab. Actually of all the characters she is the one who wouldn't hesitate to do the right thing even if it made her unpopular - indeed that is her style. I think her dilemma is that she feels loyalty to Oliver and doesn't want this to reflect badly on the hunt. She will have to tell someone - Let's hope it's Jim.
