This is too much for me now. I need to meditate.

That's several really good episodes in a row, isn't it? (am beginning to recognise a good episode I think!) Loved the hope in Roy's voice as he scrambled to clear stacked-up takeaway debris, and the slight softening in Phoebe's as she agreed to stay 'just for a minute' - and then instead of an unrealistic immediate Happy Ending she then remembered The Affair and steeled up and stalked off again - but leaving us with the feeling it may, will, be going to Come Right.

As for Rob, brilliant acting and scripting. I actually felt nervous when he came in and found Pat there and there was that chilly little 'Oh..' from him. He is really quite frightening and all without saying very much at all or lifting a finger in anger.

I'm getting way too over-invested in this and quite worried about some of the characters. Does poor Ed always get terrible luck? He reminds me of some character in HHGTTG who always had a little raincloud over his head, raining down steadily even while the sun shines. He sounded so sad and defeated!

ppeatfruit · 03/02/2015 10:50

Ref. Kate and Roy. I had a good friend who had a child by a feckless piece of shxx, she never said a word against him to her son (they didn't live together). She let him find out for himself and he did!

stilllearnin · 03/02/2015 11:32

Also for the glossary SATTC (Blimey that came up on auto text - overinfested, me?!)

It's suddenly great again. It's like SOC is all, 'you lot are so gullible! Did you really think I'd make TA shit?'

Maybe there's been some top brass intervention though. Would love to know the inner workings

ppeatfruit · 03/02/2015 12:57

Yes it crossed my mind that that might happen before he's interviewed on R4 this month! Do you reckon he's taking piss? stillearnin

Halsall · 03/02/2015 13:47

Well, it's got to help if the Director-General intervenes, in public, to warn against TA becoming sensationalist. That's a pretty big BOOP-point right there.

Swannykazoo · 03/02/2015 13:48

Aargh - I hate it when you can't quite here over children (well child) and you're aware you're missing a good bit (Rob & Helen that is) - as opposed to some rubbishy bit. Flipping outlaws are visiting this weekend so may have to sneak into work and listen to the film in the office.

nauticant · 03/02/2015 14:37

Could we avoid a glossary? I find they tend to expand over time and you end up with a load of redundant stuff to wade through at the top of a thread.

Alternatively, stick a glossary at the end of this thread and then whenever anyone asks about terms, that particular glossary post can be linked to. That'll be good till this thread SOTMC.

Icimoi · 03/02/2015 14:55

I'd moderate the general enthusiasm round here for the current batch of scripts. Yes, there's lots of very good stuff with Rob/Helen and Kate/Phoebe/Roy/Brine and JD. But in amongst that we've still got the stinking heap of rubbish that is the entire Brookfield saga, to which they've just added shovelfuls of dung with the nonsense of the order for the robotic parlour; we've got Pip casually telling us that she's booted Spencer with as much concern as someone saying she's got rid of nits ; and, worst of all, we've still got a deficiency of Matt. And it really really is time to let up on inflicting disaster after disaster on Ed.

Sort that lot out and I might join in in enthusing.

cheminotte · 03/02/2015 16:04

Will need to YouTube those songs later.
Thread title around counted chickens coming home to roost? (Love a good metaphor)

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 03/02/2015 16:57

nauticant, good idea about having a glossary to link to.

Ideas for glossary:

TA = The Archers

SOC = Sean O'Connor, current Editor of TA (since about Nov 13)

VW = Vanessa Whitburn, former Editor of TA for 20+ years previous to SOC

SOTMC = shuffle off this mortal coil

SATTC = shake Ambridge to the core (Nigel's death was supposed to do that, according to the BBC PR department)

Dopeys = David and Ruth

Radio Carter = Susan

The Thin Controller = Helen

BOOP point = a good thing about an episode, to please Bit Out Of Practice, who thought we are all getting too negative

WAL point = Whiny Ardent Listeners - another poster labelled us that for being unduly critical

The Film = the omnibus on Sunday mornings

Pusscat and Tiger = Lilian and Matt (their own pet names for each other)

Mustardland = much missed BBC messageboard for discussing TA where many of us used to waste time debate the finer points of the programme

Any more?

egnahc · 03/02/2015 17:07

I thought Vicki bought Bullocks not cows, and I have no idea whats happened to them.

No she tried to keep the bullocks for veal to prolong their lives rather than be killed shortly after birth. That was a flop as they didn't sell for as much as it had cost to raise them. now they just keep the female cows.

So if Eds all have girl babies he will be back up to strength pretty quickly (well they need to breed etc to get milk) but if they have boy babies not so good.

dairyfarmerswife · 03/02/2015 17:22

It's usually 50/50 girl cows to boy cows (or heifers and bulls ;-) ) and it will bebe at least 2 years before a girl cow born today hashas a calf and enters the milking herd. Ed will have heifers coming up, but its quite a slow process to expand that way.

LillianGish · 03/02/2015 17:22

Sock couldn't pick a worse time to SATTC
No one here's resigned yet to the Dopeys' fate
Uprooting a farmer for the mother of his wife
Soon be living in a brand new state
This plot is not great!
Will they still grow barley, carrots and potatoes?
Robotic parlour for the cattle spinach and tomatoes
Flowers on the prairie but no bees to zoom
Anyone mind if we wait til June?
Anyone think we've put the horse before the cart?
Anyone think we'll have a change of heart?
.......
Oh for Ambridge where the wind come sweeping down the plain
And the Brookfield wheat, it sure smells sweet if you think you might not harvest it again
Oh for Ambridge every night my northern wife and I have a chat with Pip to try and work out who she is but we can't however hard we try
We know we belong to the land and the land we belong to is grand
So when say - we're not going to move away
We're only saying we we're doing fine here in Ambridge - so in Ambridge we'll stay

enochroot · 03/02/2015 17:32

I'm singing along here, Lillian.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 03/02/2015 17:58

That's amazing, Lillian :)

Tune if anyone's stuck.

Loved your song earlier as well, Pseudo!

You talented lot.

Icimoi · 03/02/2015 18:01

Love that line about Pip, Lillian! And indeed the rest of it.

More acronyms/translations:

JD: Jenny Darling, a.k.a. Jenny Aldridge
Brine: Brian Aldridge
PC Plot: PC Harrison Burns
Fagash: Lillian
Moany: Tony
Knob: Rob
HHMNBN: He who must not be named, aka (whispers) Darrell

And of course there's Peep, Deeavid, Rooooth, Heatherpet, Hellin, Moike and Vickoi, Piggoi, and probably others, but I'm assuming they're probably self-explanatory.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 03/02/2015 18:29

Good work all round! Another glossary item:

Overinfested: our version of overinvested. Comes from somebody's mother, I think. Smile
