This is too much for me now. I need to meditate.

Ed's business was doomed from the start. He should have a fresh start working on one of the other farms. Home Farm would be my preference, if Geoff or Andy retire, although of course they have no dairy herd. Maybe he'll end up at Berrow Farm, although I have the impression they are looking for people with qualifications and/or a lot more experience. God forbid he should end up replacing his dad working for the Dopeys.

Smile BOOP points galore for Phoebe. Poor kid.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/01/2015 20:44

Agree about Tom (although he has more entrepreneurial apirit, however irritating) but doesn't change the fact ed is not good at the business side. I think Emma would have been a great help to him in that respect sonit is a shame he didn't feel he could share the problem. The big question I have is - where is Oliver? Ed would have spoken to him.

Ed sells the milk through mikes milk round. If ed goes out of business mike is up the creek too surely?

Would be nice if this SL was done with more reference to milk prices!!!

R4 · 20/01/2015 20:49

I was thinking, with milk prices as they are, that BL might be doing Ed a favour by forcing him out of dairy. Stop him banging his head against a brick wall.

enochroot · 20/01/2015 20:52

I feel sorry for the cards Ed's been dealt but I hate the way he tries to keep Emma shielded when she has a practical head on her shoulders and could help him run the business sensibly.

The least Bridge Farm could do now they have no milking cows is to buy his milk for their dairy. He saved Tony's life, didn't he?

R4 · 20/01/2015 20:54

He's not organic though.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/01/2015 20:54

He's not organic, though.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/01/2015 20:56

Maybe they will let him use some of their land?

Ed wouldn't ask anyway. He is too proud!!! But he would talk to Oliver

dairyfarmerswife · 20/01/2015 21:08

He can't use their land, or not on a permanent basis, as they can't have non organic stock on organic land, I don't think. I am sure waltzingwithreindeers will know exactly.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/01/2015 21:21

Maybe Peggy needs some grass grazing?

Agree he would be better out if this business. How about sheep instead with high quality wool or some such.

Icimoi · 20/01/2015 21:41

Didn't we decide several threads ago that the Dopeys could use one of those freestanding milking parlours whilst they built something more permanent? I seem to recall catching a fairly recent episode of Countryfile which featured one. So presumably they still could do that whilst waiting for the spiffy new parlour to be built.

I don't really understand the Ed storyline. He sells all his milk to Mike, and we had that storyline before where Mike reluctantly agreed to put his prices up slightly so he could pay Ed a bit more. So either Mike's brought his price down, or he's selling less - or maybe both. But absolutely none of that has been signalled. You would think that it would be the final straw that would lead Mike to pack the whole thing in, but again we've heard nothing because Mike's been struck dumb. How hard would it have been to write in two or three scenes with Mike that would make all this make sense?

minkGrundy · 20/01/2015 21:47

Yes the portable parlour was mentioned on TA wrt the moving day.

Yes Mike put the price up. No mention of it going down. Fluctuating price would affect dopeys who sell through a co-op more surely?

Yy to pps wrt Ed's stupid pride.

minkGrundy · 20/01/2015 21:49

Oh and yes was also mentioned having non organic stock on BF was no go during the whole pig feed debacle. That's why they were removed quick smart as it threatened organic status of the entire farm.

Bluestocking · 20/01/2015 21:54

I'm definitely BOOPing the Kate/Phoebe storyline. Kate will shag everyone in sight, students and staff alike, while continuing to tell poor Phoebe that she has to learn to be true to herself etc etc.

It's very nice to have Pusscat back even if we have to tolerate the farce of the disappearing Tiger. Will he turn up as a Tiger-skin rug in front of JE's roaring fire in the new architect-designed Brookfield?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/01/2015 22:14

Ed story has nothing to do with milk prices as you say. The dopeys are a far better victim for a milk price story.

They're just picking on ed and his bad business skills to add a little drama. Again. Because we need more drama.

EBearhug · 20/01/2015 22:18

And she'll keep insisting on bonding sessions with Phoebe, while Phoebe will be getting worse and worse marks (through missing lessons and homework time because of her mother), and Kate will have no idea because she never listens, and will then blame Phoebe for not telling her, because, "You can tell me anything, darling!"

She's probably also a bit annoyed that Phoebe isn't old enough to drive yet, because then she'd have been able to run her round to all the Felpersham pubs...

egnahc · 20/01/2015 22:21

How many cows did Vicky buy for her 30K. Selling 4 for Ed to get £1500 seems a lot of cow for not much cash- that implies she has 80 cows. Has the cow price dropped? Will Vicky sell her cows?

Bluestocking · 20/01/2015 22:45

Presumably Vicki is going to take her cows to Birmingham with her? They can graze in Cannon Hill Park.

R4 · 20/01/2015 22:46

I thought it was more than that. He has feed bills etc of £1500, rent owing of £?,000 and legal bills for setting aside the repossession / renewing the lease. And, you never know, Ed might think to forward plan to get some money in to cover the next rent which must be coming up soon. And he's got the pawnbroker to pay back.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/01/2015 22:53

He said £5k which included all the other bills he hasn't paid plus legal fees. So vicky would have 24 cows but I assume they devalue with age!!

CuttedUpPear · 20/01/2015 22:59

Did anyone catch what it was that Kate was wearing in the selfie?

If Lil is going to be the merry widow, maybe she could cop off with JE and then really top trump everyone with her fancy wealthy ways!

stilllearnin · 20/01/2015 23:03

little cat ears (obv)

EBearhug · 21/01/2015 00:00

Little cat ears. Which was not half as embarrassing as it could be for Phoebe, not that that would be of any comfort to her.

PhaedraIsMyName · 21/01/2015 00:26

Kate is demented isn't she? Pheobe should forgive her father.

Eastpoint · 21/01/2015 07:06

Phoebe doesn't have to forgive her father simply because her mother is dreadful. Phoebe must really miss Hailey, which will make Roy & Kate seem even worse.

LillianGish · 21/01/2015 07:29

What's actually happening with Mike and Vickoi? They were supposed to be moving and selling the business but we've heard nothing - and presumably they haven't gone yet! Even if Sock can't be arsed to write them in we could have heard via Clarrie or Lynda or Neil what's happening. Inconceivable that they haven't had some sort conversation with Roy - who lives in the adjoining house for goodness sake!! Or that there has been no mention of them via Jenny re Phoebe moving out. It appears they are being brought in to give ballroom dancing lessons (whether we'll actually hear from them is anyone's guess). My point is surely Mike's name would have come up at least once with Ed. His business is so wrapped up with Mike's it is totally unreasonable for Sock to ignore him (as unreasonable as ignoring Kathy while Pat goes through the worst year of her life and Usha while Ruth is making all these life-changing decisions). Write him out if you must, but at least make a decent fist of it and keep him in until he's gone iyswim.
