OK, this was posted on another site on January 1st 2014

'Based upon a letter in the DM from a reader who alleged they had overheard "an obnoxiously loud member of TA production team" in a Birmingham restaurant. Believe it at your peril.

Rob is revealed to be homophobic.
Jill will move into Brookfield.
The Grundy's to move back to Grange Farm.
Tom will take over the running of Bridge Farm after Tony has an accident.
Lower Loxley may burn down, but that has yet to be decided upon.
Lynda is to stage Blithe Spirit next Christmas.

Or not, as the case may be...'

How much more will come to pass, I wonder?

I've said this on the other thread so apologies for repeating myself. I know most people hated it (not me) but if they want to cover the Helen and Rob thing for another year (as we've been told) couldn't they just bring back Ambridge Extra? They've already got an audience for it.

MrsArthurShappey · 08/04/2016 17:02

That could work!

glowfrog · 08/04/2016 21:11

Agreed, Vango!

(It was a lifetime ago.) Poor man said he couldn't stand the series because they got so much wrong. My DM's the same with Casualty.)

My parents (ex-teachers) watch Waterloo Road and issue forth 'that would never happen in real life' and 'as if' with lip smacking relish. The sole reason they watch it is to fume about the inaccuracies.

I guess that if they showed the reality of teaching - ploughing through mountains of paperwork and muttering darkly about Nicky Morgan - it wouldn't make for exciting viewing.

Depicting the unexciting aspects of life in a small rural village kept millions of listeners entertained for decades. Sibling rivalry, inheritance, flooding, TB, Foot & Mouth, poaching, school choices, caring for the elderly, the importance of a village shop, class differences, gossip, newcomers, old-timers, church festivals, even (God help us!) a new bypass! All enough to keep me tuned. Now I can't have the programme on when there are young ears around. Might as well let my under 10 watch back to back Eastenders before bed every night.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 10/04/2016 13:49

Vango to be fair there's always been sensational storylines way back to Grace Fairbrother dying in the fire, armed robberies, arson and sex scandals. I don't think there's ever been a time when The Archers was 'just' about farming and cosy day to day village events.

The thing I like most about The Archers is that it combines humdrum and dramatic events.

Vango · 10/04/2016 14:54

I don't think there's ever been a time when The Archers was 'just' about farming and cosy day to day village events.

And I don't think I've ever said anything like that?!

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 10/04/2016 16:29

I was responding to the idea that the Archers has suddenly become Eastenders on the radio.
It has never merely depicted 'unexciting aspects of life in a small rural village' and the dramatic happenings that have occurred in one small village require a wilful suspension of disbelief. It has always been like a TV soap in that respect and from the off had big dramatic storylines (Tom Forrest's manslaughter trial in the 60s) or tackled taboo issues.

LowDudgeon · 11/04/2016 11:40

I got the method wrong, but the outcome is right so far - closest I've ever come to an accurate prediction, I'll take that Grin

Radio Times
17- 22 April
Helen is being asked to open up, but her mind is busy and thoughts of Rob are drowning out everything else. Tony, meanwhile, is trying to soothe a fraught Pat – they’ve been through tough times before and pulled through. But Pat’s not sure if she has the strength to do it again and an awkward encounter with Ursula doesn’t help matters.

Neil is raging at Josh, who is still promoting the pastured eggs. In the end, Rex tries to take the flak from Neil and attempts to persuade Josh to take a step back. But Josh is adamant and even his mum can't get him to change tack. So is Josh making a bad decision or does he have a bigger strategy in mind?

To lighten the mood, we also have the cricket season on the horizon. But the team is not looking as strong as last year – can Brian be persuaded to put on the pads? Eddie is keen to get Lynda’s shepherd’s hut off his hands. Once it’s in situ at Ambridge Hall, he hopes she’ll pay up. But Eddie hasn’t counted on Lynda insisting that he make some finishing touches...

Gruach · 12/04/2016 09:31

Well there's one good thing to come out of all this - Rob won't be spending the summer cheating at cricket.

Thanks Looobieloo!

AugustaFinkNottle · 12/04/2016 10:50

Incoming:

24 April: Pat is taken by surprise, and Pip gives Rex guidance.
25: Tom has got his hands full, and Jazzer is not having any luck.
26: Helen has a lot on her mind, and Lillian seeks support.
27: Johnny is making an extra effort, and Tom is catching up.
28: Jim needs to make up his mind, and Joe has a bright idea.
29: Helen wants to be alone, and Pip has a deal to make.

Too much of Pip for my taste.

Gruach · 12/04/2016 11:26

"Helen wants?"

Suggesting she might be in a position to exercise some choice? Interesting.

Guess it could be an optional community singalong at a bail hostel, or a too intense parental visit to wherever she's being held - but is there a sliver of possibility that she might be out?Shock

MrsArthurShappey · 12/04/2016 19:54

Yes, very interesting.

TOTAL TV GUIDE 16 - 22 APRIL 2016

The fall-0ut of events at Blossom Hill Cottage continues.

Life's not great for Pat and Tony either, especially after an awkward encounter with Rob's mum Ursula.

Other villagers are looking forward to the cricket season, but the team may need bolstering.

Neil takes Josh to task over his pastured eggs.

It's all hands on deck to build a new hen house at Hollowtree.

Ever the optimist, Kenton looks ahead to the St George's Day weekend, but when Jolene trashes his plans and not even Jazzer can be relied upon to help out, he's soon having doubts.

[Home from Turkey - absolutely knackered after travelling all day - will probably be back tomorrow in between bouts of unpacking]

Impressive. Here's some Brew for you.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/04/2016 22:39

Not quite! We bored our offspring senseless entertained our adult offspring with a full account of our holiday, I phoned my parents to reassure them we hadn't been blown up/captured by Daesh, checked the post, had two [brews]s, listened to tonight's TA, looked at the BBC news, checked email .... and then I looked for new spoilers. Grin

Gruach · 13/04/2016 13:45

K.D. tweets:

Today I'm writing a character talking over himself. Doesn't often happen on #thearchers

Who, who, who?

Rob? Joe? ...

AugustaFinkNottle · 13/04/2016 13:56

Maybe someone talking over a recording of themselves? Maybe Knob put in a load of secret cameras and realises he's kept recordings of numerous incriminating events? At least it can't be Helen talking over police interview recordings.

Gruach · 13/04/2016 14:08

Maybe Rob protesting over a recording the police play him?

(Prays Jess secretly recorded him I'll treating her.)

BYOSnowman · 13/04/2016 15:56

Or Shula ....

BYOSnowman · 13/04/2016 16:00

Ah no, he specifies gender

I don't think you can talk over yourself unless it is a recording

Maybe rob has been taped being abusive (or will be) and when it's played in court he goes bat shit

Gruach · 13/04/2016 16:12

Likely to be broadcast mid-June/early July? When do A'Levels happen - could it be Josh revising?

Or someone rehearsing a part? Hmm ... Jim is the only one likely to try a Krapp's Last Tape ...

Hard to think of any not-currently-hospitalised Ambridge man or boy in mental and verbal conflict with himself.Grin
