She's got a whole calendar to use!

OP posts:

There is such a note Apples! Jenny has seen it - can't remember exactly, but someone will be along soon who does.

LillianGish · 22/11/2014 19:16

Have remembered more. It was letter given to Jenny from John to be opened after his death along the lines of Carol keeping secrets and John wondering what she might do next. Apples you are a genius - it is an exact parallel.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 22/11/2014 19:41

Some info on Daisy Badger (aka NewPip) here. Her uncle grows chillis in the Vale of Evesham. Warning: there is a photo here. I know not everyone likes them.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 22/11/2014 20:19

Interesting ... Weirdly Ms Badger looks almost exactly as I've imagined Pip for years. Though I'm sorry to see they still list her as in a relationship with the unutterable Spenser. She certainly now sounds a strong enough character to continue a dynasty.

But Charlie is no longer listed, as he previously was, as being in a relationship. I'm certain they've changed their minds about where his story is going.

BasketzatDawn · 22/11/2014 20:58

Ms Badger's picture reminds me of the image I had in my head of Helen before I saw her actor's picture. Smile

nauticant · 22/11/2014 21:12

hahahahaha

ApplesinmyPocket · 22/11/2014 22:12

Oooh Lillian! Grin I had forgotten that note!

I wish TA didn't take a break for Saturdays I get withdrawals.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 22/11/2014 22:44

Just posting to say 2 things

  1. I'm still not listening (nernernerner) & still loathe SO'C with a passion

  2. if it has a road built though it, it would then become brownfield instead of greenfield, and would thus have massive more potential for industrial or residential development?

Farmland with a road through it is not brownfield! Brownfield is eg the site of a demolished factory.

Councils have development plans with designated land which can potentially be built on. I'm pretty sure designated agricultural land will not be part of that even when a major road is casually tossed through it Hmm

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 22/11/2014 23:59

Hmmm ... Ignoring the land issue (skipped the lectures, scraped the exams, still find land law deadly dull...) am I being a complete simpleton in my understanding of Justin's interest? He wants Brookfield so that the road can go ahead with no more argument. The road will enable Devil Incarnate Capital to make gazillions from the mega-d and the new(?) bigger(?) AD unit. Remember what they said about bringing in waste from all across the northern hemisphere, not just using up what's produced by the megathing?

It is rather unlikely that he wants to live in a little country pad with quadruple glazing and his whisky glass rattling on the table - but that's not the primary issue. (SurelyConfused )

unitarian · 23/11/2014 00:43

I'm not sure how much traffic noise would be heard from the house itself but, that aside, it would make a terrific country pad for him to entertain his corporate mates and oversee his considerable Borsetshire holdings. He can probably offset it against tax.

He could extend, modernise, put in a kitchen that would make Jennifer's look paltry, turn barns into pool/sauna/gym, install a chauffeur & housekeeper in Bert & Freda's cottage. Carriage sweep, wrought iron gates.........

If the road goes ahead he's got a shorter journey time to London. If it doesn't the value goes up.

WaltzingWithBares · 23/11/2014 06:10

"if it has a road built though it, it would then become brownfield instead of greenfield, and would thus have massive more potential for industrial or residential development?" (me)

Farmland with a road through it is not brownfield! Brownfield is eg the site of a demolished factory.

OK - sorry, didn't realise that! Thanks for clarifying theone. Anyway, I meant land wilth development potential. I know it's a bit tenuous, but otherwise I can't understand why Justin would be interested.

WaltzingWithBares · 23/11/2014 06:13

Now just read Zero's thoughts and agree, this is probably why Justin wants Brookfield.

That said, is he doing the same with every farmer on route B? Surely David isn't the only one? (Just the only one within earshot of TA microphones)

BringYourOwnSnowman · 23/11/2014 08:29

I'm sure he wants the land to expand BL etc

He won't be interested in the house. If he wants a country pad he will be after something a bit more lower loxley

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/11/2014 09:40

VANESSA WHITBURN is on Broadcasting House right now!

Cretaceous · 23/11/2014 11:17

He wants Brookfield so that the road can go ahead with no more argument
He wouldn't care about argument, as that's what he employs his minions to deal with. Smile Judging by developers around where we are, anyway! Our local "Justin" seems to thrive on conflict. And Brookfield is hardly the centre of protest, as they've given up.

Have to admit I've stopped listening avidly due to ludicrous Brookfield story, as it's so plot driven rather than character driven. Love the Knob storyline, but was disappointed in the lack of village gossip.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 23/11/2014 11:32

Cret - I agree. They have some really promising storylines that are being neglected/badly handled because they are trying to crowd in this stupid Brookfield storyline and also shoehorn an anti capitalist story arc with Justin.

I don't like the road story but could live with it if it was extremely long running (as these things are) and we had Brookfield fighting rather than running off like cowardy custards

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 23/11/2014 11:33

What did she say, Zero?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/11/2014 11:45

Rather disappointingly almost nothing about TA. (I wonder why ...) Newspaper review on the cost of private schools, the BBC move to Salford. But then on the subject of snobbery Lynda Snell was mentioned in the same sentence as Emily Thornberry. The point was made that people like Lynda get things done. But it was very brief and I wouldn't say the subject was gainfully interrogated.

unitarian · 23/11/2014 11:46

I think Justin sees Brookfield as that country pad he talked about at the shoot. he could entertain his corporate mates and oversee his extensive Borsetshire enterprises from there. He could probably set it against tax.

He could extend, modernise, put in a kitchen that would make Jenny's look paltry, turn barns into pool/sauna/gym, move a chauffeur and housekeeper into Bert & Freda's house. Carriage sweep, wrought iron gates......

If the road goes ahead he has a shorter journey time to London. If it doesn't then the value goes up anyway.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/11/2014 11:53

Creatceous I may not have put it very well. I didn't mean he cared personally and I was using "argument" as shorthand for months and months of protest and appeals and bad publicity and all the sub-legal stuff that might hold up their end goal.

Wouldn't buying up all the "protesting" land on the road's path be quite small beer for an apparently global enterprise? It's what I'd do if I were an evil capitalist baron ...

cryhavoc · 23/11/2014 11:56

I just can't invest in the selling Brookfield storyline at all. New Josh, New Pip, hardly any mention of HeatherPet - I'm firmly convinced they are not going to move. And as a result I'm getting bored, which is a shame because I love TA.

Thrilled at the prospect of a Romeo and Juliet style romance between Pip and Charlie.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 23/11/2014 12:04

There are far cheaper ways of ensuring the road goes ahead than buying all the land!!

I really can't see Brookfield as a desres unless bulldozed and built from scratch. And it's too close to a big road (potentially). People like Justin (mr stereotype) wouldn't want to be so close.

unitarian · 23/11/2014 12:27

I don't think they're going to move either but I am warming to the storyline because it is exactly what I've seen happening around my area in the last few years. Farm houses sell and become what I've described above for a wealthy family.
Meanwhile some farmers diversify into haulage so big lorries are moving along twisty country roads and through small villages.

Bluestocking · 23/11/2014 12:46

YY to Romeo and Juliet Pip'n'Charlie. Chip? Parley? And longterm possibilities for a storyline about a married man struggling with his desire to shag his (male) colleagues in the cabs of tractors.

unitarian · 23/11/2014 12:47

BYOS One of the most desirable houses in my area is close to a major A road. It now has a massive hedge along the road but that seems to be less to do with noise and more to do with screening it and the helipad from prying eyes. I always used to admire it as I went by before the hedge grew too high.

But Justin seems to have the power and influence to alter road building policy if Jim and Linda turn out to be right!
