With Sean o'connor at the helm I don't think anyone is going to have a happy ending unfortunately. He's just a merchant of gloom.

Just listened again to Omnibus and there is no doubt the drama works much better without a break. The whole build-up with the health and safety lecture from Johnny's tutor and the assurances that everything is in order emphasising how much this was a freak accident. I think all the medics are necessary to help explain what you couldn't see happening and to explain Tony's injuries in detail. Like BYOS I'm now thinking he will recover - with or without help from the Ambridge health fairy. Pat made me cry - she was so lovely. In Tony's situation I'm sure you'd be very reassured to hear her voice comforting you in total contrast with self-centred Hellin. Wondering if I might start listening to Omnibus now instead of piece-meal through the week - I'd never be able to keep up with this thread if I did that though

Can't remember the last time I listened to the omnibus, but I did today, and I agree, Lillian, it all worked much better as one continuous episode. The scene that started at 7.14pm on Thursday and picked up at 7.02pm on Friday was one continuous scene in the omnibus! No wonder the Thursday listeners were perplexed by it - it broke off in the middle. Without the synopsis we hadn't a hope of working out what was supposed to have happened.

I can't see how Tony can make a complete recovery without the series utterly losing credibility but I hope he doesn't die. The Bridge Farm Archers are so terribly unlucky, aren't they?

The drama worked much better as one continuous thread. Poor Piggoi though - she must be veddy, veddy disappointed at missing her hair appointment and the party - I bet she'd worked out ways to upset every single member of her family.

BYOS Yes I agree with your merchant of gloom conclusion. I am going to get annoyed if O'Connor is allowed to get away with it. I notice he refuses to answer listeners' questions on R4.

Apparently he took the job on the understanding he had free rein. He seems to be the type who thinks his way is the right way and anyone who disagrees is wrong for a variety of reasons. A true bbc man....

The beeb are not the only programmers who employ pig headed types. DH has worked with quite a few in ITV too.

Why are they taking the calves away?.
We have a dairy herd ... don't know so much about suckler cows, but I think that they wean the calves from their mums en-mass judging by the bellowing from our neighbours suckler herd now and again I guess it's timed with bringing the cattle back for winter. The cows will be fed a breeding ration, appropriate for getting back in-calf or being in-calf, and the calves will be fed a fattening ration hereon in.

Although how will they get back in-calf without Otto there? Source another bull? RobThey'd better not get rid of the whole herd while Tony's away.
