She's got a whole calendar to use!

OP posts:

Ooh gripping couple of episodes! All characters played very true to form, well done SWs. Ed was great. I like Ed. Hellin was as self centered as usual. Yes, moving hearing Peggy's distress, and Pat wax extremely well done - the initial 'coping mode' before the shock and distress sets in....Sad.

I think young Johnny will be put off farming for life and will scuttle back oop north..

Selks · 15/11/2014 11:23

was

unitarian · 15/11/2014 11:27

I'm worried now! I don't remember ever having a tetanus jab.

Do fewer things and do them properly. I couldn't agree more though I have to admit that I was on the edge of my seat for those two episodes and will be listening on Sunday night. I usually miss that one.

Tony will either-
a) FOHMC
b) Never walk again
c) Be up and about by Christmas.

My money's on A because I've believed all along that Mr Troughton wouldn't be staying in the cast for the long-term so B or C will probably mean that Tony's voice has been affected by the trauma.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 15/11/2014 11:27

Oh I hope not selks! I like johnny - only new character I can say that about

Love the idea of a 'sweeper' bull!!

I guess otto was tiles by something but tony only got in the way because he was trying to protect the kids. They were the unusual factor.

Hopefully this will lead to d and r declaring they don't care about the road now - they need to stay in their community and that stupid plot line will be dumped ASAP.

Maybe Hayley will find out 'roy, life's too short, I love you and let's forget anything ever happened with lizwitch.' Cos that's realistic right?

R4 · 15/11/2014 11:38

We've all been complaining about character transplants for months but the one transplant we didn't complain about was MoanyTony turning into Werthers Original Granddad. We should have seen this plotline coming - Tony is never that happy for that long.

Selks · 15/11/2014 11:38

What's happened with Roy lately? I've not heard every episode but he seems a bit forgotten about by the SWs?

ppeatfruit · 15/11/2014 12:11

velvet IKWYM BUT maybe you missed the bit where Roy says that Vickoi wasn't speaking to him and Mike was very unhappy with him. Shame we didn't hear it but they were mentioned.

That's interesting about the difference between dairy and beef cattle Waltzing Of course it would be known by Tony Hmm .I heard Ed. say that Otto was the last of them and stood still.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 15/11/2014 12:20

Thank you Waltzing - what a fabulously detailed picture you paint.

Have some Brew when you get in from the drear.

choccyp1g · 15/11/2014 12:37

Generally beef bulls are more placid, especially Herefords, but Angus's can turn nasty. I thought Ed's part was very well written, especially the swearing. It was him and a broom against a raging bull.

ppeatfruit · 15/11/2014 12:56

So was it Henry running that set Otto off or was Ed. being too pushy with him? As you can tell I'm not well up on the behaviour of cattle, I only know to keep well away from them and horses,oh also llamas, I'm not that keen on goats either Grin

I also know 2 of the sweetest natured labradors that got out together and went on a spree, killing a load of chickens. (someone else mentioned a similar thing upthread).

NoMarymary · 15/11/2014 13:04

Oh Lord!

Catch up Mary! NOW!

Bluestocking · 15/11/2014 13:28

Lyndipops moonlighting as a matron in an old people's home in Rumpole on BBC R4 right now!

ppeatfruit · 15/11/2014 13:39

Oh on mine it's politics !!

Icimoi · 15/11/2014 15:02

I'm not grumpy about this storyline, I think Friday's episode was well done and the acting, especially from Pat, was very good; and it does no harm to point up the dangers involved in farming. If it means D and R abandoning the moving plan, so much the better, but it looks unlikely given that the SWs have carefully set up a fight with Brine.

I do agree, however, that if they were going to have four major plotlines overlapping (i.e. Roy/Lizzie, Hellin/Knob, the road and now this), it would have made much more sense to put the road business on ice so as to reflect the reality of how long these things actually take.

Icimoi · 15/11/2014 15:03

Talking of actors' pay, Tony had an easy payday on Friday, didn't he? He presumably got full whack for a few moans and a bit of incoherent muttering. Still, I guess they're going to make him earn his keep over the next few weeks, unless he FOHMC.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 15/11/2014 15:42

Apparently the best pay day was for how Grundy when he uttered one pained moan!

Of all the storylines running this is actually the best one! But I think they've mistimed it.

Feels like they are going down the eastenders route of the most miserable Xmas possible!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 15/11/2014 16:00

The grundys know what they are doing when it comes to cows.

GrinGrinGrin Only just got this.

minklundy · 15/11/2014 16:20

selk I agree. Good episodes. True to chracter.

I think as said upthread it was running child that spooked the bull. Ed's move was I think him facing down the bull and moving it away from T. Hence him then saying Johnny get behind me and shut the gate.

Poor T. He loved that bull.
I hope Peggy realises the problem cow is her.

VelvetGreen · 15/11/2014 16:26

velvet IKWYM BUT maybe you missed the bit where Roy says that Vickoi wasn't speaking to him and Mike was very unhappy with him. Shame we didn't hear it but they were mentioned.

I did hear that, but it felt a bit like being invited for dinner and then being given a bag of crisps. Not even nice crisps. It was such a big thing to happen with repercussions for so many characters that it deserved a proper follow up, not just a brief mention.

I did think Fridays episode was well acted. I dunno. I agree that it could be a really important storyline, but at a different time, and happening to someone else, not poor old Tone.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 15/11/2014 16:53

So we only hear second hand that vicky told Roy off

But we hear the tutor first hand. That could hae been discussed at dinner

Pat - so would did tutor say?
Johnny - blah blah health and safety stuff
Tony - and don't forget he also said never let a young child run across a yard to his grandad when the bull is around

LillianGish · 15/11/2014 17:26

But the tutor was there to set up Tony's accident no? All that health and safety talk about face masks and quad bike courses, but no mention of not mixing small children and bulls.

LillianGish · 15/11/2014 17:27

sorry BYOS - just read end of yr post. That is exactly how it should have been done.

northernlurker · 15/11/2014 17:49

Thinking about Helen SHOULD by now have impressed upon Henry that he must not run near the herd - there were dairy cows there all his life and now this herd. Henry is 4 in January isn't he? Old enough to have got that message although of course not always remember it.

I'm a bit regretful that Rob wasn't around for this - would have been very interesting to see how he reacted.

I'm hoping Peggy will recognise Ed's worth and give him a sizeable reward so he and Em can have a really lovely Christmas. Topped off by an offer to move in to a recently converted barn at Bridge farm and be the farm manager for Tony and PAt (Tom having been sent packing). Then in a couple of decades Henry will marry Keira and finally a Grundy will get their hands on a bit of Ambridge. After Emma's death in a freak cheese making accident Ed will live on with his daughter and son in law. An aging Grundy with his turkeys and his cider (just like Joe) and with his memories of the day he Saved An Archer and his life was transformed.............

minklundy · 15/11/2014 17:58

Northern Grin

florencedombey · 15/11/2014 18:00

Snurk at "freak cheese-making accident".
