OH! OH! OH! OHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 19:16

So can we expect a hard hitting military story with dan?

And what a surprise - the aldridges going for Brookfield. Didn't expect that at all did we?

That was clunky clunky clunky (again)

'We have stupid listeners lets explain in little detail'

R4 · 09/11/2014 19:18

Gosh. We never saw that coming.Hmm
Brine is slipping. In the old days he would have been in there before it was on the open market.

PigletJohn · 09/11/2014 19:22

Brine has been showing himself up as a doddery and forgetful retired farmer. He'll be looking at a place on Jersey soon.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 19:26

And they paid lip service to Remembrance Sunday. They normally do it well.

Oh well, guess this is the new emmerdale.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 19:28

Debbie did deserve sacking tbh. What kin of manager never makes site visits? She was only given that oversight to sooth her ego

BasketzatDawn · 09/11/2014 20:31

I can't believe Adam is so sure of the Home Farm finances he didn't need to run such a big purchase past their accountant first. or is this how big biz operates? I am ignorant of financial matters, it's just not my background.

I'm another who didn't feel the love for JP - though I did listen to Home Truths as the music was quite good.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 20:32

well they will undoubtedly have to take a loan out to pay for a big chunk but i should imagine brian has a tidy sum stashed away

YellowSpoon · 09/11/2014 20:39

Didn't she have that job because else was Brian's favourite?

Anyway think tom tweeted thAt he has been dumped too though you probably commented on that a thread back. My dh is delighted to never hear him again but the character was a twat but the actor fine. Unlike the awful Robb the knob wife woman. She was so bad I once spent five mins in the kitchen complying her lines just to see how she made them so strange.

SOC said in some interview that he had bought Jill into more focus because she was at the heart of his memories of the archers and he had done this by putting her at the centre of Brookfield. So it would make no sense to send her away surely?

Am surprised how easily Brian has eased away from the farming and become a pie and pipe man rather more.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 21:00

It does seem quite funny - a few days ago Adam was (outrageously) being tipped £20, now he's all gung-ho about spending £5 million. I don't want Brookfield sold but I do like Adam to get what he wants occasionally - he seems to live a life of perpetual frustration.

Yellow I think "Tom's" tweet accelerated the end of the last thread by about a week.Grin

BasketzatDawn · 09/11/2014 21:25

And what od we make of Peggoi's stumble? Is it just a case of 'people sometimes stumble, esp. if nearly 90'? or is she going to develop some serious complication like a blood clot and SOTMC when she is only 89 years and 364 days? And all that food will go to waste. Poor Pat (and Helen) will be devastated. I suppose they could just freeze it and bring it out for the post-funeral purvey?

I can never make up my mind if I like Adam. I used to feel sorry for him when Debbie was being favoured by the evil step dad. But I think I just like him cos he is married to Ian. Cos Adam just seems to moan and dither these days. In fact the decision to buy Brookfield feels like the most sudden/impulsive decision he has ever made. Shock

YellowSpoon · 09/11/2014 21:33

Ha ha zero thought so:) haven't kept apace with anything this week!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 21:48

Basketz I've never seen "purvey" used as a noun before; had to look it up.

I daresay her ankle will have some impact on the party - perhaps putting her somewhere where she sees Tom before everyone else?

I always, always feel that Adam is only living his second choice life; that if he hadn't had his heart broken in whichever country in Africa he was working in he might still be there. So he returned feeling a failure and has never quite shaken that off. It's odd, Kenton had, until lately, made much less of a success of his return, but he really fits in to village life. Adam always seems a foreigner - making a concession to the Ambridge way of life.

PseudoBadger · 09/11/2014 22:49

Oh yes Peggy isn't long for this world.
I think that the Brookfield thing will cause a terrible rift between Brian/Adam and the Dopeys, as it is to be Adam's saviour, but they will pull out leaving him high and dry.

OP posts:
R4 · 09/11/2014 23:35

Adam is already high and dry. He shelled out loads of money on the combine without first ensuring that he had long-term contracts in place to make it pay. Now that he has been dumped by BL and Brookfield, he is desperate to find new work. His thinking is not 'is Brookfield a viable business and a good investment?' but 'how can I keep my combine busy?'
One poor decision following on from another.

BasketzatDawn · 09/11/2014 23:48

'purvey' as a noun is a Scottish term, in fact I think it is a Glasgow term. I grew up knowing it anyway. Thing is I hate the use of 'wake' when people mean the post-funeral meal or whatever - as wake is of course really the pre-funeral vigil in Ireland where much whiskey (not whisky!!) is drunk round an open coffin. I hesitated to use purvey in 'mixed' company (DH finds it weird - he is from Middlesex!!) but couldn't bring myself to use 'wake'. Maybe I should sleep in Pedants' Corner tonight.Grin

YY I agree with comments on Adam. I also don't know why he has a southern African twang when he lived as a child in Borsetshire, and has been back now for 20 odd years.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 23:57

Yes, that's how I understand the term "wake" as well. And it's a very splendid thing in my experience. (Even far away from Ireland!)

Has Adam really been back 20 years? Surely not?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/11/2014 00:03

.... Or did you mean after studying? The blog says he returned from his foreign stint in 2003 - so 11 years. He still seems new!

BasketzatDawn · 10/11/2014 00:17

No, really it was just a wild guess on my part. I haven't a clue how long Adam has been back. It seems like ages, it has to be said.... Grin But I'd have thought maybe 15 years anyway.

I was bemused tonight to hear Dan's age. I knew one of my sons aged with some Archers children, and now I know which one. I always thought it was Peep who aged with that son, but I was clearly wrong. Sometimes I am only vaguely aware of detail in real life too. Blush

BasketzatDawn · 10/11/2014 00:19

Oh, really, you just said it's 11 years. Time I got snuggled down in Pedants' Corner, I think.Blush

JessieMcJessie · 10/11/2014 00:42

I don't detect any "Southern African twang" in Adam's voice, but even if he had picked up some accent in Africa it wouldn't be SA as he was in East Africa, either Kenya or Tanzania I think. Unless of course his true love, breaker of his heart was a Saffer.

LillianGish · 10/11/2014 08:38

I agree with pseudo. Peggy's stumble was clearly significant and Brian and Adam will be all set to buy Brookfield when D and R pull out at the last minute (with the newly cast Peep and Josh).

BringYourOwnSnowman · 10/11/2014 08:54

I don't detect any sa in Adam either!

It is ruari of the permanent Irish accent that I find odd!

I think Peggy has had a good run of storylines as they are planning her deading!

What's happened at home farm should really make her think again about the financial security of Jenny's children. Perhaps she will rewrite her will after her party (full of secrets an lies coming out) and then sotmc before telling everyone so those who were expecting suddenly are disappointed leading to challenging the will blah blah blah

Or - mr oc is going all corrie on us and planning an assisted suicide story once Peggy realises she has dementia and doesn't want to end up like jack

JessieMcJessie · 10/11/2014 09:05

Byos I am pretty sure that on the last few times Ruari appeared (like when he was trying to get Lilian to give him money to buy the concrete dog) he had a pretty cut glass RP accent, entirely in keeping with hi having been away at boarding prep for a fair few years now. I really like it when he appears.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 10/11/2014 09:45

Really? I must have missed that. Good then! It was starting to get on my nerves!!
